Taking several design cues from the XC60 SUV concept, German magazine Autozeitung has come up with a photoshoped image of the next generation S40 which is expected to come out late 2008 - early 2009. Although nothing’s certain yet, according to a previous report I read on Automotive News who citied a Volvo manager, the 2009 S40 will replace both S40 and S60 models. If that happens, inevitably, the new S40 will grow in length to over 4.5m (matching the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-Class & Audi A4) thus closing the gap on today's 4.58m long S60. That means that Volvo will most probably base the S40 on the Mondeo / S-MAX platform and not on the Focus platform as it did with the current model. That's a really good look for Volvo if they would go that way...let's just hope they get inspired by that pic...

NO this thing is DISGUSTING. i had an 05 S40 T5. i loved it so much. this thing is worse than anything pontiac or ford would be dumb enough to design. this is like a cruel joke.
The 2009 model does not look like that... Trust me. It looks pretty much the same as the 2008.
How do I know? I just bought one. I am an American living in Europe and we get them about 6 months before the U.S. And mine is an American spec car too, made for the American market... So trust me when I say that the 2009 does not drastically change as shown in the pic above.
;)
this will be the most beautiful volvo sedan if it will look exactly as in pictures
Ugly, keep the older (2008) design
Great evolutionary design...you know with one glimpse that it's a Volvo!
Does anyone know what the new V50 is gonna look like?
I guess it is one way to catch the youngs’ attention on volvo. This ad shows freedom of choice which young people loves. Volvo wants to reach out to independent-minded youth.
