According to Anderson, while students’ ignorance for brand origin may a bliss in some cases –eg. most believe that Motorola is Japanese (…), country of origin plays an important part in making luxury goods and automobiles more exclusive and exotic. And vice-versa, may we add as Hyundai proves. From the 246 people who said Hyundai’s was Korean, just 42% of them thought Korea makes good products while 85% of them said Japan makes good products. I am truly horrified at what these findings imply about my generation.
yes because you KNOW these people represent a country as a whole. that' what, 3 people a college?
I am forced to agree with the above poster. I'm not even considered one of the people in my generation who "count" since I chose to go to a 2-year college instead of a 4-year university, and I know the origin of all of the brands listed in the study. It greatly saddens me how ignorant, apathetic, and selfish people truly are.
Just so you know, Volvo Automobile division is owned by Ford (since 1999) and Saab Autmobile is owned by GM (since 1990). So technically they're both American now. (not to mention the Saab 9-3 is made in an Opel plant in Germany). So really, the study doesn't appear to be precise enough.
#Cowbert: If that's the case, then we're talking about super-smart students; not only do they know that Volvo's Swedish but they also know that its owned by an American firm... :)
Wasn't chrysler German for a while than? Wise to sell it again I must say.
