No, this concept does not preview the successor to the Mazda6 MAZDASPEED (or MPS as it’s called in Europe, Australia and other markets), nor have these pictures been leaked into the internet. The Mazda Atenza MAZDASPEED is simply a tuning proposition from MAZDASPEED that will make its debut at the 2008 Tokyo Auto Salon (something like the Japanese version of the SEMA show) that runs from January 11 to 13, 2008. Totally uncool way to start an article, but that’s the truth guys.

From what we could make out of the Japanese press release, the Mazda Atenza (Japanese market name of the Mazda6) concept gets an aggressive bodykit that enhances the car’s aerodynamics, chunky 10-spoke alloy-wheels, a sport suspension and a sport exhaust system. -More high-res pic after the jump

WOW. That looks very very nice! I wonder if Honda and Nissan will follow suit. The Altima SE-R did very well and was a very nice ride. The V6 6spd Accord sedan was nice too, although sedate looking. This segment has HUGE potential. I think Subaru and Mitsubishi should also follow suit. They already have the engines, just add some flare and they will be good to go.

The new Mazda 6 doesn't really catch my fancy styling wise. From the first picture, the headlamps look like a previous generation Camry and the awkward glass house especially at the rear looks disjointed. Having said that, it is still much nicer than a Camry or Accord.
