Snow-Sucks: Icy car-crashes in Portland

Wednesday, January 17, 2007 | 5 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

The people of Portland were unfortunate to experience the wrath of winter and all that comes with it. No amount of salt could prevent the disaster that follows the dreaded “BLACK ICE”-especially the black ice covered by what seems to be an “innocent” and “pretty” thin blanket of snow. Combine that with a steep road and wrong use of the brake pedal and you have the perfect recipe for catastrophe. This reminds me of a scene from grand theft auto only this ain't no South Beach and the hookers would freeze their butts off in this weather! Posted by Dani

What goes around comes around as Eminem’s 1999 Ford Mustang, which he sold in 2003 over at e-bay to multimillion-dollar heir Courtney Wittenberns, is up for sale again, where else, but e-bay. The funny thing is that Courtney Wittenberns had to wait until 2006 when she'll actually be old enough to drive Eminem’s Mustang. Talk about wasted money…

Anyway, according to the site www.eminemscar.com (….), the featured Mustang was Eminem's first automobile purchase after the release of his first album. Marshal Mathers (Eminem) then changed the colour of the car from its original red to a deep purple and added a new set of chrome wheels for the "Purple Pills" video, which was later renamed to "Purple Hills". The starting price at e-bay for this “historical” Mustang is 27.000 USD. Via: Motorpasion & e-bay

GM might be having serious issues here and there but in Europe, things are starting to look promising to say the least. GM’s subsidiary Opel, not only swerved pass Renault to take the second place overall in the European market for 2006 –despite a 2,3% drop in sales, but its Astra model also managed to knock VW’s Golf off the top spot and become Europe’s best seller for 2006.

While rival VW must be pleased not only for maintaining first place but also for broadening the difference with the competition, I’m sure that they are quite unhappy with the fact that the Golf slipped from 1st place to 4th. On the contrary, Renault must feel very proud for its new Clio hatch (+28,0%) but not for its overall performance as sales dropped by 12,6%.

Fiat on its behalf recorded the largest increase in sales from the top 10 group with an 18.7% rise in sales, mainly due to its well-received Grande Punto hatch, which saw its sales double in 2006.

Finally, even though Toyota managed to rank 9th overall, there’s not one Asian model in Europe’s Top 10 best sellers list. In my opinion that won’t happen neither in 2007, but don’t be surprised if Toyota surpasses Citroen or Fiat (though less probable due to the introduction of the Bravo) at the end of the year.Via: Jato Dynamics

Bad Luck Strikes Again: Paris Runs out of Gas

Wednesday, January 17, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , , | Bookmark and Share

Remember how I promised not to report on Paris Hilton in a pink car…unless she did something stupid in it? Well here’s my big chance except this time the incompetent heiress’s $200,000 Bentley ran out of gas! It’s a good thing the paparazzi were around to help her out since she had “never put gas in the car before.” My favorite part is when she takes the change from the 20$ she gave a guy to fetch some gas for her, and throws it in the back seat! Thought I’d share the stupidity. It’ll make you feel smart. Watch it. Via: Motorpassion

The “Thrustpac” is a propeller driven motor that gives you an extra push on any non-vehicle mode of transportation of your choice. This “Green Machine” will help you achieve over 150 miles per gallon on a standard mountain bike without pedalling. Each ThrustPac is tailor-made, and prices vary according to weight and power with prices beginning at $895 and running through $2000. It comes in three different power specifications, from a 12 pound four-stroke pack offering 10 pounds of thrust to a 20 pound (weight) pack offering 20 pounds of thrust from a two-stroke motor.

The device is controlled by a special glove, which allows the rider to accelerate or slow down simply by flexing their index finger. Find it kinda of dangerous? Oh, be adventurous. Apart from the fact that you’ll have to be extra careful with your finger, (scratching any parts of your body is strictly forbidden) what else could possibly happen?

Now don’t tell me that the front end doesn’t remind you of the latest EVO X concept, the Prototype X. And why shouldn’t it as the X1 Sportscar is not only made by Mitsubishi Lancer Evo tuner specialist, X-Works Automotive (based in the UK) but it’s also fitted with the an EVO derived 2.0-litre turbocharged engine available in various versions producing from 350 to 500Hp.

Unfortunately, like its Subaru-powered, 350Hp Prodrive P2 Coupe stablemate that was unveiled early last year (click here for pictures to refresh your memory ) the X1 looks like it was made by people who’re addicted to LEGOs. Of course that's nothing that a little "EVO" magic can't solve. Via: Jalopnik

PRESS RELEASE: We are delighted to announce that our X Works Automotive Concept X1 Sportscar will be available for viewing in our Xtreme showroom from Friday 19th January 2007 until Sunday 21st January, opeing times will be Friday / Saturday 9.00am - 5.00pm and Sunday 11.00am - 4.00pm. The car has been developed over the last 30 months by X-Works Automotive with Xtreme Automobiles Ltd being the first dealer appointed in the UK. The X1 Concept Car uses a unique carbon composite technology for the manufacture of the cars passenger cell. Attached to this are lightweight aluminium and carbon subframes carrying the drivetrain components.

The composite technology provides an incredibly stiff platform and also helps keep the cars weight down to a lightweight 1180kg. Combined with the race honed chassis and phenomenal 4 cylinder turbo charged 350 bhp engine, this provides truly electrifying performance. Tuning options of up to 500 bhp are of course available, Recaro CS seats are fitted as standard. There is also a 1000 kg competition version planned for those increasingly popular track days or outright competition use. The cars designers, Andrew Borrowman and Sean Prendergast, studied Automotive Design Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, following which they worked at Rover, Panther Cars and Grand Prix Engineering Services between them. They have also run their own composites company designing and manufacturing for the likes of Prodrive, Alvis and JCB, just to name a few.

Projected retail price for the X1 is £45,000 and i'm sure you must agree, this is tremendous value, given the technology and performance this sportscar offers. For those unable to visit us over the weekend of the 19th January 2007 for a close up and personal viewing, the X1 concept car will be on display on the Recaro stand at the Autosports International Show at the NEC, from the 11th to 14th January 2007.

Looks like it’s a busy day for BMW Group as an hour after they presented the updated BMW 1-Series they revealed two new editions of the 2007 Mini, the ONE and the Cooper D. To be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on 8 March 2007, the entry-level One features a 95hp 1.4-litre petrol engine, while the Cooper D which of course is the most interesting of two gets a Peugeot derived, 1.6-litre 110hp turbodiesel powerplant combing adequate performance figures and fuel efficiency. The two new Mini’s will go on sale in Europe on April. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the official press release and a high-res gallery

PRESS RELEASE -
MINI Cooper D: Technology highlights: The MINI Cooper D’s brand new turbocharged diesel engine develops 110hp at 4,000rpm. Under normal conditions peak torque of 240Nm is achieved between 1,750 and 2,000rpm. Deploying the engine’s Overboost function gives the Cooper D an additional 20Nm of torque, meaning the driver will experience 260Nm at 2,000rpm. MINI enthusiasts will recognise this torque figure is identical to that produced by the new MINI Cooper S. The turbocharger system features variable turbine geometry, ensuring optimum smoothness, efficiency and response even at low engine speeds. Second-generation common rail diesel technology operating at a maximum pressure of 1,600 bar is key to the new diesel engine’s combustion process. Additionally, refinement is achieved using a precise multiple-injection process for each operating cycle. The combustion chambers have been optimised in their shape and dimensions to prevent unwanted turbulence and maintain a smooth and consistent combustion process at all times. A diesel particulate filter almost eliminates diesel exhaust emissions and helps to make the MINI diesel engine one of the most environmentally friendly engines in its class.

MINI One: Technology highlights: The 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine in the MINI One is derived from the 1.6-litre unit that features in the current Cooper model. Smooth power delivery and maximum efficiency are achieved using fully variable valve control, through a system based on BMW Group’s unique VALVETRONIC technology. Maximum output of 95hp at 6,000rpm is produced by the compact engine, which is constructed from lightweight aluminium. The 5hp power increase on its predecessor leads to a peak torque figure of 140Nm at 4,000rpm.

The innovative powertrain is key to the MINI One’s ability to ensure a grin-inducing driving experience, yet offers the driver outstanding fuel economy and low emissions. A 0-62mph time of 10.9 seconds and top speed of 115mph are complemented by an average fuel consumption figure of 49.6mpg – an efficiency increase of 15 per cent compared to the outgoing model.

Six-speed gearbox as standard: The new MINI One and new MINI Cooper D both come as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox. Dynamic acceleration is a result of the precise shift control provided by carbon friction plates and helical gears operating within an optimised syncromesh. With its long transmission ratio, the sixth gear allows optimum fuel economy, even at high speeds.

The MINI One will be available to customers with the option of a six-speed automatic transmission. A key feature is the Steptronic function, which allows the driver to shift gears in sequence using the gear lever or the standard-fit paddles on the steering wheel. For keener drivers, a Sports Button is available as an option for even shorter gearshift times and faster throttle response.

Design highlights: Features including a black finish to the car’s radiator grille bars, door mirrors and tailgate handle are exclusive to the MINI One. The new MINI Cooper D’s sporting prowess is underlined by the addition of a pronounced power dome on the car’s bonnet. A discernibly larger air intake than on other MINI models features on the Cooper D, as does a crossbar in body colour on the lower intake.

Chassis and suspension: The go-kart driving experience is enhanced in the new MINI One and Cooper D through a new suspension set-up, as introduced on the MINI Cooper and Cooper S. MINI is the only car in its segment to be fitted with a central-arm rear axle featuring elaborate kinematics for optimum tyre-to-road contact. Electrical Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) incorporating modern mechanical control gives the driver increased precision feedback. Variable power assistance dependent on speed ensures MINI drivers are guaranteed an involving drive every time they step into the car.

BMW revealed its updated 2007 1 Series sooner than we thought but not before we managed to get a glimpse of it through two leaked videos. The highlight of the 2007 model is the introduction of the 3door version with frameless doors in the style of a coupe, which will be available in four-seat or five-seat configurations. As with the 5door version, it features the same styling updates, which include redesigned bumpers, a slightly larger kidney grille and revised headlamp clusters. In the interior the updated 1 Series benefits from the introduction of higher quality materials and minor changes to the layout.

The 2007 1 Series gets revised powertrains that are not only more powerful has but also more fuel efficient. Like the updated 5 Series, the Bavarian hatch will be available with BMW’s new Brake Energy Regeneration system. The car will be unveiled officially at the Geneva Show in March with sales starting the same period.

PRESS RELEASE: The new BMW 1 Series goes on sale in spring 2007 and features a model line up that includes the most fuel efficient production vehicle BMW has ever produced. The introduction of a three-door model and a revised five-door come as a raft of new fuel-saving innovations are rolled out across the range.

Technologies such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Automatic Start-Stop function and Electric Power Steering are combined with lower rolling resistant tyres and a gearshift change indicator to encourage economical motoring. These innovations are in addition to the use of variable valve technologies and High-Precision Direct Injection engines on some 1 Series models that boost power output but cut fuel consumption and emissions.

The BMW 118d, BMW's most economical car, manages its record 60.1mpg figure courtesy of these features in conjunction with the use of further lightweight engineering. The car now has an aluminium crankcase to save weight. Aside from the BMW Hydrogen 7, the BMW 118d also posts the lowest ever CO2 emissions of any BMW recording 123g/km (putting it into the Band C category for Vehicle Excise Duty).

Other engines in the new 1 Series range record economy improvements of up to 24 per cent compared to the previous model, while emissions have also been cut by up to 21 per cent. These improvements have not been to the detriment of driving pleasure. The new 1 Series is powered by a range of engines whose outputs have increased by up to 20hp with a consequential improvement in performance figures.

New fuel saving technology: Brake Energy Regeneration (iGR) makes its debut on the 1 Series. The system uses an Intelligent Alternator Control (IAC) and an Absorbent Glass Mat battery to recycle previously lost energy, in turn saving fuel. This is achieved as the IAC reduces drag on the engine by only engaging when required to charge the battery, whereas a traditional alternator is always pulling power from the engine. Additionally, the energy generated by the engine on over-run (under braking or descending a hill) was previously wasted. Now this lost energy is utilised by the IAC to charge the battery. iGR alone is responsible for a three per cent improvement in fuel economy.

The new 1 Series comes with Automatic Start-Stop function to cut fuel consumption. Standard on all manual transmission models (except 130i), the system automatically switches the engine off when the vehicle is stationary and the driver puts the car into neutral. To restart the driver only need engage the clutch again before pulling away in the normal manner. Should he not want to use the Automatic Start-Stop function it can be manually switched off.

The use of Electric Power Steering results in a 90 per cent energy saving compared to a conventional mechanical hydraulic steering system. Power assistance is now provided by an electric motor that works only when required, such as turning a corner. Other fuel saving enhancements have been made courtesy of various ancillary devices, such as the air-conditioning power supply being disconnected from the drivetrain when not in use. Even flaps behind the kidney grille improve economy, closing up for improved aerodynamic efficiency should the engine require less airflow. The feature also improves cold starting times.

Engine changes and statistics in detail

Traction and safety: All BMW 1 Series models come with Dynamic Stability Control with Dynamic Traction Control for the best combination driving pleasure and safety. DSC allows drivers to make the most of the 1 Series' 50:50 weight distribution and rear-wheel drive configuration for the best on-road performance. The BMW 130i comes with five additional functions with its DSC+ system for enhanced convenience and driver safety: Hill Start Assistant, Brake Pre-tensioning, Brake Drying, Brake Fade Compensation and Soft Stop.

All BMW 1 Series have six airbags as standard, the Brake Force Display function on the rear lights to highlight sharp braking and Run-flat tyres with Tyre Puncture Warning System.

A new style of BMW 1 Series: To herald the introduction of the latest generation of engines, BMW's designers have refreshed the interior and exterior styling of the five-door model. The 1 Series now features a larger kidney grille for improved airflow to the engine. The lower front spoiler has also been reprofiled to create a larger air intake, while the spoiler protrudes further for a more pronounced, sporting look. The headlamp cluster remains the same size but a darker cover gives a subtle, more distinguished front end.

At the rear a restyled bumper gives the impression of a wider, lower car. The rear lamp cluster now features a new arrangement of lights, but retains its original shape.

The new three-door 1 Series features the same styling cues but its side view is naturally different. The passenger doors are longer than those on the five-door model and are also frameless in the style of a coupé. Inside, customers will also be able to choose between either a four-seat or a five-seat configuration. In the four-seat arrangement rear passengers are separated by a central storage compartment and sit in more sculptured seats. As a no-cost option the five-seat layout offers the traditional bench seat standard on the five-door 1 Series. The introduction of higher quality materials and minor changes to the layout of the interior enhance customer comfort and practicality.

Optional highlights: The new 1 Series comes with MP3 and USB stick capability for the best in in-car entertainment. Customers with their favourite music loaded on an Apple iPod or a USB stick can now plug these into the car to continue their listening. Tracks are selected via steering wheel controls or the iDrive system.

The optional Adaptive Headlights that turn to follow the intended course of the car have been improved on the 1 Series. Cornering light function is added to the package as standard. This means two additional lights turn at speeds of between 22 and 40mph to further illuminate the direction of travel on a twisting road.

Microsoft and Dresser Wayne (fuel dispenser manufacturer) teamed up to bring a new prototype gas pumper that’s allows you to download music from the web while your filling up the car. The demonstration was displayed at the Microsoft Automotive Business Unit at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show.

The idea is called The Dresser Wayne Ovation² iX fuel dispenser which enables the transfer of media content to other WiFi-enabled devices with the use of a 15-inch touchscreen at the gas pump. As part of the demo, audio files where purchased and downloaded from the Dresser Wayne fuel dispenser to a compatible media device (cell phone or entertainment system) and then played through the Alpine IVA-W200 stereo system installed in a navigation system installed in a Lincoln Navigator.

The partners call this an “excited new experience for consumers and retailers.” I call it, “other people making endless money on the fact that I’m waiting in line at the pump behind a fat guy in a Dodge Caravan trying to download the whole Britney Spears album.” Posted by Dani

Yep, it’s another “supercar” by an unknown maker from a country that’s not exactly renowned in car manufacturing. I don’t know how but we kind of missed its debut at the Vienna Luxury Show a few days ago. The LM 800 is the work of Berne Beck Engineering & Composits GmbH from Muri near Berne in Switzerland.

So what’s so special about the LM 800? For starters, it uses race technology as the basic construction of the car is similar to a Formula 1 car with a central monocoque made of composite materials that protect the driver and provide the necessary rigidity. Fixed to this are the engine and gearbox support, as well as the front transverse control arms of the chassis.

Then there’s the engine which is a 4.2-litre V8 derived from Audi. With the help of a turbo-charger that has been specially produced for the Beck LM 800 the 4.2 produces 650Hp. Power is driven to the rear wheels via a semi-sequential, 7-speed gearbox. Gear changing takes place either with a conventional gearstick or using a rocker switch on the steering wheel.

And even though Beck hasn’t announced any performance figures yet, they where hasty enough to come up with a starting price tag of…600.000 USD or 465.000 EUR! In my book that’s enough money to send me in record time to a Ferrari or Lamborghini dealer! Via: Jalopnik

BMW X6: To be built at Spartanburg USA

BMW’s upcoming X6 Crossover (read & see more about it here: BMW X6) will be built in the car maker's Spartanburg plant that’s located in South Carolina USA, stated a source at a BMW supplier (who requested to remain anonymous) to Automotive News. Well to be honest, you don’t need to be a nuclear physicist to assume that the most possible plant for building the X6 is in Spartanburg; one, the X6 is heavily based on the new X5 which is also built in the same plant and two, the X6’s main target is the N. American market so why build it, for example in Germany where the exchange rate between the dollar and the euro favors the second? Via: Automotive News

Chevrolet Camaro "RIP"...

Sunday, January 14, 2007 | 5 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

In a couple of years, thousands will be lining up in Chevy dealers getting ready to place a down payment for the all new Camaro. Many will do it to re-live their adolescence without spending time or money in restoring, others just to make a quick buck by reselling the first pieces on e-bay and hopefully, many by the car itself. Same goes for the Dodge Challenger. But what about the cars that actually inspired this retro muscle-craze, what did fate behold for them?

Well, some lucky ones found a home in your everyday garage where they’ll spend the rest of their life “married” to passionate everyday folks who’ll cherish them and treat them with an occasional spin. Others, less fortunate spend most of their time between “rest-homes” and auction halls. Even worse though, some like the Camaros shown in the pictures are cursed to stay still in graveyards abandoned to the harsh hands of nature till rust takes all….

Super Chevy mag stumbled upon this car graveyard filled with first & second-generation Chevrolet Camaro located somewhere in Southern California. Don’t tell me that seeing these Camaros doesn’t burn a few heart valves. Via: Motorpassion & Super Chevy

Even though the show lasts for a couple of days only, those Tokyo boyz are rolling off concepts faster than a DSG transmission changes gears! On its part Honda specialist Mugen revealed spiced up versions of the Jazz/Fit, Civic Sedan and the S2000 Roadster.

As with the majority of the Tokyo presentations, information concerning the cars is more limited than our knowledge of black holes so once again we’ll have to be consent with any images we’ve got on our hands -for now that is. Undoubtedly Mugen’s most impressive show car is the “Open-Top Sports Concept” or to make its simple a barchetta version of the S2000 with an eye-catching bodykit that we’d just love to take it for a drift –wouldn’t you?

Albeit less impressive, the other two Mugen concepts are the “Road to Racing Concept” which is based on the Civic Sedan featuring a bodykit reminiscent of the 4door Type-R (although that looked much cooler thanks to its polar white colour) & the “Fit Spec-D” which well, is a supped-up Fit (Jazz).

The 2007 Tokyo Auto Salon is alive and kicking out quite a few interesting concepts even though we’re lost in translation… Anyhows, Nissan came up with the Skyline Aero Concept fitted with a “master-blaster” bodykit, 20’’ rims and umm, that’s about all that we can say for the Japanese version of the Infiniti G Sedan until Nissan kindly decides to share an English press release with us.

BMW 3 Series Coupe M Sport Pack Revealed

Saturday, January 13, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

In mid 2006 we posted an article featuring images from a scanned brochure that we then believed, was the M sport pack for the E92 BMW 3-Series Coupe. These pictures from the Brussels’ Motor Salon that opened yesterday prove however that the 3-Series Coupe shown on the brochure wasn’t equipped with the M Sport Package but with a “BMW Original Equipment” Sport Pack. Just to set things straight! Via: Autoblog.nl

“Ever wonder how to buy a car and “keep your anus intact” while doing so. Well, this guy clues us in on the do’s and don’ts of auto shopping at a dealership to help protect you from the evil beings “that want to prey on your soul”: a.k.a. a car salesman. He also gives us a glimpse of his old car which is filled with all the crap in the world. And I thought I had a lot of weird junk in my car.

The Tokyo Auto Salon (12 to 14 January) isn’t only about supped up Nismo 350Zs and Streams. It’s also about those weird Japanese modifiers like the people working at NAT’s (Nihon Automotive College) who took an early 90’s Honda Beat and turned it into “mini-me” version of the Acura / Honda NSX!

Apart from its looks, the MINI-SX has a mid-engine rear-wheel drive layout just like the NSX. However, that’s about all the similarities between the two Hondas as the Beat was equipped with a teeny-weenie 0.65-litre 3cylinder engine producing 64Hp. Via: WindingRoad

The days where we used a key to unlock and start our vehicles are long GONE! At least that’s what Renault is telling us here with their hands free car opener and starter video. Unfortunately, this poor fellow has neglected to invest in one these devices and feels the need to give his car some “loving”, on the off chance that it may open.

New Maserati Coupe Photoshop

Friday, January 12, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

We discovered this photoshoped image of the next generation Maserati Coupe over at our Italian friends at Autoblog.it. Although we didn’t manage to find the artist responsible for the impression, we’ll give him a thumb up for his creation which draws design cues from the beautiful 1954 Maserati A6 GCS by Pininfarina (check out the pics below). Word has it that Maserati will present the new Coupe at the upcoming Geneva Show in March. Like the current version, the new Italian GT will continue to use a Ferrari derived V8 motor. Now this is more like it or isn’t it? See, according to Nissan’s press release, which you can check out below, the 350Z –Fairlady Z in Japan, gets a pack load of goodies like an impressive bodykit, enhanced suspension and tires but there’s no word of any engine upgrades. Even though the Japanese version of the 2008 350Z pumps out 313Hp isn’t it a shame that this car doesn’t get a bit more power?

Anyways, along with the supped up 350Z / Fairlady Z, Nismo also presented the racing version of the car, which goes by the name Fairlady Z NISMO Type 380RS-Competition (image below). Apart from chipping away a few pounds and revising suspension & brakes, NISMO also fiddled around with Nissan’s 3.5 V6 increasing its capacity to 3.8-litres and interfering with the electronics. The upgraded VQ35HR produces 400Hp and 43,0 kgm of torque. -Thanks for the Tip!

PRESS RELEASE: Nissan 350Z / Fairlady Z Nismo: Based on the new Fairlady Z, the Version NISMO fuses NISMO's extensive racing expertise, gained through competing in SUPER GT and other race series as the Nissan works team, with the Autech Japan’s extensive experience in manufacturing completely customized vehicles. The new model provides a heightened dimension of sporty driving pleasure, backed by the Fairlady Z's renowned performance capabilities. The customl Version Nissan can be purchased at Nissan dealers nationwide and receives the same after-sales service as regular Fairlady Z models.

To help enhance driving performance, the Version NISMO’s body stiffness has been improved by increasing the welded area of the body panels and adding additional reinforcement bars and panels, among other measures. High-grip Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires have been adopted to absorb high input forces from the road surface. In addition, the suspension system has been totally retuned to further boost cornering performance. An optimum balance of handling and driving comfort has also been achieved by adopting Performance Dampers that effectively damp force inputs to the body.

The exterior design was developed on the basis of meticulous studies conducted by the Design Group and the Vehicle Performance Testing Group. A supercomputer was used to run design simulations based on aerodynamic data collected with SUPER GT race cars. The distinctive body form obtained as a result provides superior handling and stability, together with aerodynamic characteristics for creating effective downforce. The interior is also distinguished by its unique, premium-quality ambience, resulting from the use of exclusive metallic-looking genuine leather trim. Seats are upholstered with a perforated Alcantara center section that holds the body more firmly during sporty driving.

Following the official spy video of Mercedes upcoming C-class (to be unveiled on January the 18th) we now have official spy shots which include pics of the exterior, interior, chassis and... a German mustache man.

Mercedes is testing the holy god out of the new C-class dragging it trough a series of vigorous test-rig programs in over 24 million test kilometers. Testing of the new C-Class began in the summer of 2003. 280 prototypes completed regular non-stop tests conducted under various terrains and weather conditions.

In other words, the new C-class is being dragged through hell and back to see if it can withstand this new generation of abusive drivers and speed demons -sort of like the eloquent German mustache man pictured here. See how he handles the steering in a gentle yet masculine manner... Posted by Dani

Dad’s up for a bad surprise when he reveals his birthday present (a brand new Saab 9-3 Convertible) to his teenage daughter… Albeit we can’t vouch for the video’s authenticity –it could be a staged hoax to stir up a bit of attention on Youtube, I’m pretty sure that many of you would have just "loved" to be in dad’s place. Really, how would you have reacted in this situation?

Saab has its eyes set on a new compact hatch to take on the likes of the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3. Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld took on the assignment of “visualising” the 9-1 in the form of an artist's impression that borrows design cues from the Aero-X concept.

Last year, Saab’s Managing Director Jan-Ake Jonsson gave an interview to the Swedish newspaper TT, where he not only confirmed the company’s plans for the 9-1 but he also revealed that it will be based on the same platform as the next-generation Opel Astra. That means the 9-1 will also use Astra’s engine range including the new 180Hp 1.6 Turbo and OPC’s 240Hp 2.0 Turbo. Via: Teknikensvarld

2008 Volvo XC70 Scooped Again…

Thursday, January 11, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

For those of you that don’t remember, last October we posted the first uncovered images of the all-new XC70. Now, thanks to a thoughtful and sharing Volvo employee we’ve got another set of pics featuring the upcoming Swedish crossover at its final form.

The XC70 which will probably be unveiled at the Geneva Show in March is practically a V70 –see it here in another pack of leaked images, with an off-road bodykit and standard AWD system. The engine range will come straight from the new S80 which means that the XC70 will be offered with a 2.5 Turbo, a 3.2 straight six and a 4.2 V8 motor while Europe will also get the D5 Turbo-Diesel.
