Mitsubishi just came out with an official press release announcing that its anti-Smart “i” minicar or key-car as these models are named in Japan, will finally go on sale in the UK. The rear-mid-engined, four-seater “i” will be available in one spec model in an initial availability of just 300 units priced at 8.999 BP (17.500 USD or 13.400 EUR). That’s kinda of spicy even for the British market but since where talking about only 300 cars I guess Mitsubishi won’t find any problem selling them. Think of it as an inexpensive case-study (since Mitsubishi won’t have to alter the production line for a left-hand version) to asses the pulse of the European market for a future euro-version. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below see the official press release and an image gallery

PRESS RELEASE: MITSUBISHI “i” TO GO ON SALE IN THE UK

Mitsubishi Motors UK has confirmed that the multi-award winning Mitsubishi “i” minicar will go on sale in the UK on 1st July 2007, with one highly-specified model to be launched priced at £8,999. The rear-mid-engined, four-seater “i” has already achieved cult status in Japan where it has proved both a critical and commercial success due to its futuristic styling, agile handling, clever use of interior space and comfortable ride.

Over 37,000 units were sold in Japan during 2006 and a string of automotive and design awards culminated in the “i” being named “RJC Car of the Year” by the Automotive Researchers & Journalists of Japan (RJC). Critics and customers alike have been seduced by the efficiency of the “i”’s 64bhp, 660cc turbo engine and the practical advantages of its rear-mid-engined configuration.

The decision to import the “i” follows an extensive feasibility study. Jim Tyrrell, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK stated: “We displayed the “i” at Badminton Horse Trials, the British Motor Show and at a number of key dealerships around the country and the public reaction was wholly positive. The “i” has already become a cult car in Japan and we’re confident that its space and sophistication, coupled with Mitsubishi’s reputation for quality and reliability, will also make it a hit in the UK.”

The “i” will be sold through selected Mitsubishi dealers with an initial availability of just 300 units. With deposits already being placed, the “i” may well have already attracted a small following of its own here in the UK.

THE CONCEPT

“i” is a play on the Japanese word “ai” meaning love, which emphasises the car’s people and eco-friendly properties. It is also designed to be intelligent, innovative and imaginative.

Mitsubishi’s feasibility study suggests the “i” will appeal to a wide range of people. While the younger style-conscious buyer appreciates its distinctive image and technology; older customers are attracted by its practicality, reliability and ease-of-use.

ONE HIGHLY-SPECIFIED MODEL

Just one highly-specified version of the “i” will be offered in the UK. Designed as an innovative premium small car, standard equipment will include automatic transmission, climate control, a six-speaker stereo with CD player, front and rear electric windows and electrically operated and folding door mirrors.

THE ENGINE

The “i” is powered by an all-alloy, 660cc three-cylinder petrol engine that combines a turbocharger and intercooler with MIVEC variable valve timing. The engine delivers 64bhp at 6000rpm and 69lb ft (93Nm) of torque at 3000rpm, helping the “i” accelerate from 0 to 50mph in 11.2sec and reach a top speed of around 90mph. Drive is to the rear wheels via an INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission, which helps reduce the stress of city driving.

THE DYNAMICS

The “i” employs a unique, aluminium space-frame chassis, which is both lightweight and exceptionally strong. This has benefits for both occupant protection and the performance of the suspension, which consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a 3-link De Dion system at the rear. The long wheelbase and near-perfect weight distribution has enabled the engineers to combine a comfortable ride quality with nippy handling. A tiny turning radius of 4.5m is also a major boon in the city.

EXTERIOR STYLE

The “i”’s futuristic styling capitalises on its rear-mid-engined configuration. It was designed at Mitsubishi’s design studio in Tokyo and its distinctive, one-box shape maximises cabin space. It’s neat, practical and appealing.

Unusual dimensions lend it a key advantage in the cut-and-thrust of city driving. The “i” is 155mm narrower than the Peugeot 107, helping it to squeeze through gaps in the traffic that would normally be reserved for a motorbike. It is also shorter than its key rivals, but the wheel-at-each corner proportions deliver a wheelbase that’s longer than a full-size supermini. This has advantages for both passenger accommodation and driving dynamics.

The success of Mitsubishi’s design has been recognised in Japan at the highest level with “i” not only taking a ‘Good Design Gold Prize’ but also beating over 2,000 entries to secure the overall Grand Prize for 2006 in the highly-prestigious Japanese Good Design Awards. The “i” is the first minicar to win this prize which is given to the most outstanding entry among all categories.

INTERIOR PRACTICALITY

The cabin highlights the benefits of a rear-mid-engined configuration by providing ample space for four adults and their luggage. Head room is particularly generous and the simple, high quality fascia contributes to the feeling of comfort. There’s also plenty of storage space and the rear seat back splits and folds to allow larger objects to be carried.

The “i” is the first Japanese car to use Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified hypoallergenic seat fabric. Working in combination with a deodorant roof lining and a clean air filter for the standard automatic air conditioning, this fabric helps purify the cabin. This is of major benefit to allergy sufferers.

HIGH LEVEL OF ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SAFETY

The standard ABS with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) helps the driver avoid an accident, but should the worst happen, occupants are protected by twin front airbags and a sophisticated survival cell. ISOFIX child seat mounting points and anti-trap electric windows help safeguard the next generation, while an innovative energy-absorbing wiper pivot under the bonnet reduces the risk of injury to a pedestrian.

PRESS RELEASE: Facelift for Mercedes-Benz G-Class: Latest generation of the classic cross-country vehicle now with an even classier specification

Mercedes-Benz has refined its G-Class yet again. The interior has been injected with fresh appeal courtesy of a new, high-grade instrument cluster, an attractively styled steering wheel which is also new, as well as a modified centre console with redesigned switches plus a new-look control unit for the air conditioning. Outside, the latest generation of the G-Class can be identified by the design of its tail light units with their sophisticated LED look. These facelift measures see Mercedes-Benz hold true to its philosophy of making sure that this classic vehicle - which has been in production for over quarter of a century now - is equipped with a comfortable, up-to-date interior on a par with the best saloons, along with state-of-the-art technology. By so doing, it preserves the exclusive status of the G-Class as a full-blooded cross-country vehicle blended with the very finest lifestyle qualities.

The first Mercedes-Benz G-Class unveiled in 1979 was designed predominantly with tough off-road terrain in mind. Over the many years of its production, Mercedes engineers have adapted the G-Class to changing customer requirements. It boasted outstanding off-road capabilities right from the outset, but its all-terrain prowess has been continuously improved on by the addition of the latest electronics. Its exceptional performance off the beaten track, excellent towing abilities and balanced handling characteristics combined with its saloon-like ambience have resulted in the G-Class enjoying an extraordinarily long production career, which now extends to 28 years.

With its most recent facelift, Mercedes-Benz has added further touches of class to its cross-country classic. This is particularly true inside the G-Class where a new instrument cluster gives the interior a sophisticated look. Four circular analogue dials with chrome-ring surrounds form the nerve centre for driver information. Also sporting a new design is the elegant four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, whose illuminated buttons drivers can simply press with their thumbs to call up various data or control certain functions without being distracted from the road. The G 320 CDI comes with a leather-trimmed steering wheel as standard, whilst the luxurious wood/leather version awaits G 500 and G 55 AMG drivers.

Common to all three G-Class models is the modified centre console with its new controls and switches for the air conditioning and convenience functions. Not only does the new centre console give the cockpit added visual appeal, it is designed to make operating the controls more foolproof. The standard specification for the G 500 and G 55 AMG models includes the COMAND APS control and display unit featuring DVD navigation system, built-in radio, CD player and telephone keypad. A compass function has also been integrated to allow drivers to easily get their bearings even when they have left the signposted routes far behind them. The compass can be set to show the current heading in either the new instrument cluster's display or on the COMAND screen.

The COMAND APS system can also be specified as an option for the G 320 CDI. This model is fitted as standard with the Audio 20 radio featuring CD player and telephone keypad instead of the previous Audio 10 unit. The entry-level model now also comes with heated front seats at no extra cost. The new 12V power socket in the front-passenger footwell of all models in the G-Class range allows for straightforward connection of auxiliary electrical appliances.

From outside, the newest generation of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class can be recognised from its tail lights, which have been remodelled by the designers to give them a fresh, new, LED-style look.

New attractive optional extras available

To coincide with the facelift, Mercedes-Benz has added some new enticing items to its list of optional extras for the G-Class. These include the following highlights:

  • a reversing camera which shows drivers the scene behind the vehicle on the new COMAND unit's 6.5-inch screen;
  • a tyre pressure monitoring system whose information appears in the instrument cluster display;
  • a sports exhaust system for the long-wheelbase G 500 Station Wagon model which is basically identical to the exhaust system fitted in the G 55 AMG;
  • the "ARTICO" interior package with robust man-made leather appointments, plus
  • the new "Cognac" leather upholstery which extends the previous choice of leather appointments in either black or grey by adding a third, brown tone (no-cost option for G 500 model)

In light of these facelift measures, the claim that the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is now more comfortable and innovative than ever has never rung so true. For not only does the G-Class excel by virtue of a luxurious interior ambience, its technology is absolutely state of the art too. The permanent all-wheel drive is complemented by the electronically controlled traction system 4ETS which boosts vehicle grip when pulling away and accelerating on slippery surfaces. What's more, the G Class comes equipped with three engageable differential locks as well as a low-range ratio for tackling tough terrain.

The current G-Class model line-up comprises three engines and three different body variants. The engine power spectrum ranges from the 165 kW/224 hp of the G 320 CDI to the 368 kW/500 hp developed by the G 55 AMG.

The new-look G-Class is available to order now, with deliveries starting in mid April.

If you ever got flipped off when you honked your horn at someone for doing something dumb, well, you ain't seen anything yet. The FX-550, available for $149.99 lets you download a songs, tones or even your voice into a USB that is then hooked up to your car horn. The last time ii saw something like this was down in Mexico when the old beetle cabs had honking tones like "La Cucuracha" and "The Mexican Hat Dance". Of course they did this for the tourists. I’m sure we'd use it to express our road rage in the appropriate way…Via: Squeezeoc Posted by Dani

I guess anything is better than those boring old Crown Vics we usually see cruising around looking for some poor yo-yo to write up. Knuttz.net has compiled some photos of cool police cars from around the world. My favs are the Smart Fortwo and Chrysler PT Cruiser police cars. The Smart would be especially entertaining in a highspeed chase with a Yukon or an Escalade. Via: Knutz Posted by Dani

UPDATE: 2008 Skoda Superb Scoop Images

Wednesday, February 14, 2007 | 2 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

A couple of hours ago we showed you a few scanned black & white images of the 2008 Skoda Superb. Apparently, those pictures where just the tip of the ice-berg as we managed to snoop out a whole set of images that give us a clear view of the Octavia’s big brother. And the from the looks of it, that’s the best description one can give to the 2008 Superb which dumps the 4door sedan body of the current version in favor of a Octavia-like 5door liftback body. Expect the Superb to be fitted with a wide range of 1.6 FSI, TFSI (1.8 or/and 2.0-litres), V6 FSI petrol and 1.9/2.0 TDI diesel engines when it goes on sale in a few months (June). Scooped: 2008 Skoda Superb 2

Wednesday, February 14, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Like our fellow French bloggers at Caradisiac noted,we’ll be frank and tell you we don’t have the slightest idea of what’s written on the scanned pics of this Czech newspaper –any help from Czech speaking friends will be more than welcome!. What we do know though s that from the looks of it, Skoda has yet another factory leak on its hands, this time of the all-new Skoda Superb, which as we’ve written previously, will go on sale in Europe this June. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the rest of the article and the images

The scooped images give us thorough details of the new Superb, which will be based on an extended Octavia platform. Albeit a bit fuzzy, it’s quite obvious that, unlike its predecessor, the new Superb will not be a rebadged VW Passat (previous generation). In order to obtain its own identity in comparison with the Passat the Czech carmaker decided to abandon the 4door sedan body and go the 5door liftback way, just as it has done with the Octavia. It remains unknown for now if the Superb will make its public debut at the Geneva Show. Via: Autoblog.it & Caradisiac

Geneva Preview: Rinspeed eXasis

Wednesday, February 14, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , , | Bookmark and Share

Yep, it’s another “wacko” concept from Swiss carmaker Rinspeed. The “eXasis” is a drivable "glass" car with a completely transparent body and floor made of Makrolon whose styling is reminiscent of early 40’s race cars –albeit with a large road clearance. The two seater roadster is powered by a lightweight, 150Hp strong 750 cc 2-cylinder turbocharged Weber engine that runs on bioethanol. Combine that with the fact the eXasis tips the scale at just 750kg, and you have a weight-to-power ratio of just 5 kg/hp. Theoretically the eXasis can go from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4,8 sec achieving a top speed of 210 km/h (131 mph). –Continued: Click “Read More…” below to check the press release with technical specs and a full, high res image gallery

PRESS RELEASE: “Glass" concept car to mark Rinspeed's 30th birthday - 40 years after Bayer's first "all-plastic" car

eXasis - Glass-free transparency

Zumikon / Leverkusen – "There's never been anything like it" were the words used in the online edition of an acclaimed international news magazine to describe its editor's reaction when the first sketches of the new Rinspeed concept car, "eXasis", appeared on the Internet, "and it looks like no other vehicle before it". In fact, the illustrations could only hint at what Swiss automotive visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht had thought up in collaboration with the experts from Bayer MaterialScience AG – one of the largest plastics producers in the world – to mark his company's 30th anniversary: a drivable "glass" car with a completely transparent body and floor made of Makrolon. Once again, this Rinspeed creation has been built by the Swiss engineering specialists Esoro, and will be shown to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18, 2007), 40 years after Bayer presented the first "all-plastic car" at the K67 Plastics Fair in Germany in 1967.

"Everyone who sees the eXasis for the first time raves about the glass car, but they actually mean our transparent high-tech plastic," says Ian Paterson, the member of the Bayer MaterialScience Board of Management responsible for Innovation, describing the typical reaction to the prototype. "Many people only talk about innovation. We do it, in conjunction with our partners." In fact, nearly all the Bayer MaterialScience business units were involved in the development of the concept car, providing products such as surface coatings and polyurethanes (for molding tools). but it was the plastics experts from BMS with their Makrolon polycarbonate who were responsible for the transparency of the eXasis. Frank M. Rinderknecht: "In this ethereal transparency, the true spirit of the eXasis becomes visible. An abstract idea becomes material, visions become a tangible car. Yet the eXasis still doesn't seem to have quite arrived in our material world."

So is it just a clever 3D projection, a fata morgana or perhaps a four-wheel ‘objet d'art’? In any case, the third vehicle to emerge from the cooperation between the two companies differs fundamentally from the other two: the futuristic-looking "Senso" and the pure-blooded "zaZen" sports car. The eXasis is a completely new development, in other words it is not based on a production-line vehicle. The insect-like, shiny yellow body with the exposed wheels looks like a mix of the legendary Auto-Union racing cars from the first half of the last century and an off-road vehicle, offering room for two people, one behind the other. The reinterpretation of the frequently cited cigar form is crowned in the "sexy" rear section with an attractively integrated ventilator and a superb matching, highly polished Remus exhaust muffler. And the transparency also provides an unrestricted view of the compact 2-cylinder 750 ccm Weber engine, which, very unusually, sits above the transmission.

The eXasis is a real eye-catcher with nothing to hide. The outer Makrolon shell, molded by the Swiss firm Mecaplex and coated with a tinge of yellow by the German hard coatings specialist, KRD, reveals the vehicle's load-bearing aluminum chassis. The chassis looks as if it has been cut from a solid piece of material, and in fact the bulkheads are. Despite this, the entire construction exudes a sense of lightness like bamboo, underlined by a Lesonal chrome effect finish based on Bayer MaterialScience's Desmodur and Desmophen. To finish the surfaces of the knobs and levers, the Bayer experts came up with a special soft-feel coating based on waterborne binders - their sole aim being to pamper the eyes and hands of the driver.

The two occupants sit in special seats designed in cooperation with Recaro. Each seat consists of twelve transparent Makrolon ribs – the same number as a human being has. The head restraint and armrests are made of transparent Technogel. The Hightex/Sellner Group, which is specialized in interior design, was responsible not only for the futuristic seat coverings and the design of the fabric-covered steering wheel, it has also added a number of other stylish highlights. One example is the innovative application of aluminized glass fiber material with a diamond-shape design on the wheel rims, trim, wishbones, fuel tank and headlamps.

The two transparent indicator and function displays are an absolute delight, both technically and optically. They seem to hover on both sides in the driver's field of vision. By touching them, various functions can be displayed and controlled. Each of the touch-panels is made of a transparent CD/DVD Makrolon blank that has been coated with electrically conductive Baytron from H.C. Starck to trigger the switch functions. The displays were developed by the Swiss safety and closure system specialists, Kaba. The personalized access system to the car is also be integrated in the touch panels.

The "eXasis" is powered by an extremely lightweight, 150 bhp Weber engine driven by CO2-emission-reducing bioethanol. In view of the fact that the car weighs only 750 kg because of its lightweight plastic construction, one horsepower has to shift only 5 kg – and that is about the same as a very nippy Porsche.

Rinspeed was also able to persuade some state-owned companies and government departments to become involved in the eXasis project. The fuel is provided by Alcosuisse, the profit center of the Swiss Alcohol Board, while the Swiss Federal Office of Energy has chosen the eXasis to take part in a study on the subject of lightweight construction and ecology. More information on bioethanol and Germany's first fuel station brand for environmentally friendly fuels can be found on the Internet at biofuel24.de.

To transfer all this power to the road, the KW chassis specialists have accommodated the tailor-made spring and shock absorber units vertically in the front in the partition wall and horizontally at the rear. The tires are Pirelli's 22-inch High-Performance P Zero, mounted on forged five-spoke wheels manufactured by the German wheel maker, AEZ. Here too, attention to detail is evident: the wheels are decorated with transparent "inlays" of Makrolon® that look like small windows.

Despite the attractive sweeping contours that blend smoothly into the car's transparency, the eXasis is ‘edgy’ and definitely has a character of its own. But everybody who has the pleasure of driving it is agreed on one thing: glancing down through the transparent floor while the car is moving gives a very special kind of thrill…

It’s about 1:00 in Berlin, Madrid, Stockholm, Rome and Paris so since it’s the 14th of February, the embargo on the 2008 Ford Mondeo is typically over. Typically, cause practically, the embargo was broken last week with the leak of 5 images and the “light” version of the press release on the net.

While we’ve got the full press pack in our hands we’ll do everyone a favour and leave the analytical 18-page press release to the “professionals” and just rerun the “light” version which has all the information you need. Of course, we won’t do the same with the image gallery that includes photos of all versions (4d, 5d & SW)

PRESS RELEASE: Ford has released the first images of the all-new Mondeo ahead of its world debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The dramatic all-new Mondeo is designed to raise customers' expectations for a car in this class through a combination of style, dynamics and technology.

During its life, the Mondeo has appeared every year in the nation's top 10 favourite cars. A total of over four million Mondeo models have been built at the Genk plant since launch in 1993 with more than 1.5 million of those being sold in the UK.

"The exciting new Mondeo is very important to us", said Roelant de Waard, Ford of Britain's Chairman and Managing Director. "It's probably the most elegant car we've ever launched, and it's certainly the most technologically-advanced. Like the S-MAX, Car of the Year 2007, the new Mondeo will attract many new customers to our showrooms as well as delighting our loyal UK customer base," he said.

New Mondeo Design

The new Mondeo is striking and unmistakably a member of the Ford family. It is the latest and most advanced expression of Ford's 'kinetic design'.

The distinctive front end has chamfered corners and a deep offset between the top of the bonnet and the front wings. A muscular shoulder line runs through the side of the car to a high point at the rear.

Distinctive rear lamps also feature carefully designed graphics that enhance the overall feeling of premium quality. A strong undercut line runs from the bold front wing wheel lips through the side of the car. Under this, full surfacing extends down to strong rocker panels to ensure the vehicle maintains a dynamic road presence.

The spacious interior shares the same 'kinetic design' exterior language as the exterior. The driver will enjoy the 'cockpit' driving position as the higher beltline and flow-through centre console combine to enhance the cosseted feeling for front seat occupants.

New levels of craftsmanship are evident throughout. For example, careful use of 'piano black' interior styling accents creates interest and a pleasing feel to key touch areas. Soft-touch material and ambient lighting is used extensively throughout the cabin to emphasise its quality and refinement.

New Mondeo Choice

The Ford Mondeo range has always offered a wide choice for customers, and the new Mondeo is no exception. Standard equipment across the range includes Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Ford Easyfuel capless refuelling with fuel inhibitor to prevent misfuelling, Thatcham Cat. 1 alarm, air conditioning, 'follow-me-home' lights, trip computer and an MP3 connector socket.

Three distinct bodystyles – a classic four-door, a stylish and flexible five-door and the capacious Estate – will all be available from launch. For each body style, four distinct series are available: the Edge, which provides a high level of standard equipment essential for business and family needs; the contemporary Zetec series, and, at the top of the range, the Ghia and Titanium X models.

These flagship models offer a choice of premium quality details. While the Ghia represents classic luxury, with extensive use of chrome and wood ornamentation inside, the Titanium model will appeal to those customers favouring a more contemporary, technology flavour.

New Technologies for Driver Assistance

Advanced new driver-focused technologies are available, and include keyless entry and keyless start with "Ford Power" start button, new Ford "Convers+" Human Machine Interface (HMI) instrument display, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert, Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control with Hill Launch Assist, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

Furthermore, this new Mondeo is the first production Ford to feature the company's award-winning Easyfuel system. This guards against either petrol or diesel misfuelling at the filling pump as the fuel filler neck aperture has been specifically designed around the different sizes of fuel nozzles. Ford has engineered its system only to allow the nozzle that matches the corresponding fuel type of the car to enter the filler neck.

Ford Precision Drive: New Mondeo Driving Quality

The Ford Mondeo has been acclaimed for its driving quality since its original introduction in 1993. The new Mondeo aims to extend this reputation even further, and from the outset was developed with superior driving dynamics as a core attribute, combining a refined ride with minimal noise, vibration and harshness.

The major modifications include:

  1. · Wider track
  2. · Optimised front suspension design
  3. · New rear suspension design
  4. · Isolated rear subframe
  5. · Optimised steering system

Refined Suspension System
Ford has specified the trusted MacPherson front suspension system for the new Mondeo incorporating features to enhance the Mondeo driving experience such as isolated subframes, control arm hydro bushings, S-shaped springs and dual path strut mounts.

At the rear a new version of the proven multi-link rear suspension design also benefits from an isolated subframe mounting system. This concept is already familiar in the Ford S-MAX "Control Blade" design and uses four links to control each wheel precisely.

Reduced Noise, Vibration and Harshness and Improved Sound Quality
New Mondeo promotes stress-free, relaxed driving through low noise levels which enables easy communication inside the vehicle and optimum use of the internal audio equipment even at high speeds.

The combined effect of all the engineering actions, in terms of noise, is a reduction of 3dB across the whole frequency range, compared with the current model. Wind noise, measured in Ford's state-of-the-art aero-acoustic wind tunnel is the lowest in its class, and reinforces the quality ambience of the interior.

Powertrains
The new Mondeo is available with a wide choice of petrol and diesel engines, including:

  • · 1.8-litre Duratorq TDCi 100PS or 125PS diesel with 5-speed manual transmission. The 125PS version can also be specified with a 6-speed manual transmission.
  • · 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 140PS diesel with 6-speed manual transmission.
  • · 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi 130ps diesel with a new Durashift 6-speed automatic transmission
  • · 1.6-litre Duratec Ti-VCT 110PS or 125PS petrol engines with 5-speed manual transmission.
  • · 2.0-litre Duratec HE 145PS petrol engine with Durashift 5-speed manual transmission.
  • · A new 2.3-litre Duratec HE 161PS 4-cylinder petrol engine with Durashift
    6-speed automatic transmission.
  • · Range topping, performance-orientated 2.5 litre Duratec 5-cylinder 220PS petrol engine with Durashift 6-speed manual transmission

About a month ago, we posted a few images of the new M pack for the E92 3 Series Coupe taken from the Brussels Motor Show in January. Now, thanks to BMW UK we have an official press release and a couple of high res pics featuring the E92 Cabriolet M Sport version. Surprisingly enough, BMW notes that the M Sport versions account for more than 3/4 of all 6cylinder- 3 Series Coupe and Convertible sales!

Apart from the M body styling kit, the M Sport pack includes a stiffer suspension set-up, 18’’ or 19’’ rims, sport seats, brushed aluminum interior trim, a pinched price tag etc. BMW also announced that the 1-Series Limited Sports Edition will be offered in the UK only as a 130i (265Hp 6cylinder 3.0-liter engine) in a limited run of 160 cars.-Continued: Click “Read More…” below to check out both press releases and extra pictures

PRESS RELEASE: M SPORT COMES TO THE 3 SERIES COUPE AND CONVERTIBLE
The BMW 3 Series Coupe and Convertible ranges both have a new flagship model. The M Sport specification level is now the most dynamic and sporting incarnation currently available for the recently launched Coupé and Convertible ranges.

Offered on all engine variants, M Sport cars come with a raft of additional equipment as standard compared to an SE model. An M Aerodynamic body styling package gives the cars a distinct, sporting look, while Sport suspension with a stiffer, and 15mm lower, set-up provides a more focussed ride. All models come with 18-inch M star-spoke light alloy wheels as standard with a differently styled 19-inch M Double-spoke light alloy wheel as an option. High-gloss Shadow line exterior finishes to the window surrounds is also a standard feature.

Inside, all M Sport models feature Sports seats upholstered in Blue Shadow cloth Alcantara, Individual anthracite headlining, M designation doorsill finishers and a short-shift M gearlever with a perforated leather gaiter and handbrake lever. A Brushed Aluminium interior trim and M leather steering wheel complete the package.

M Sport models are traditionally a popular choice for BMW buyers. On six-cylinder-engined 3 Series Coupé and Convertible models they account for more than three-quarters of all sales. The introduction of this latest generation of sports model is expected to maintain this ratio. M Sport model cars are only available in a choice of four metallic colours (Titanium Silver, Black Sapphire, Le Mans Blue, Sparkling Graphite) and two non-metallic colours (Alpine White, Crimson Red).

Prices start at £28,330 OTR for a 320i M Sport Coupé rising to £37,745 OTR for a 335d M Sport Coupé. The entry-level 320i M Sport Convertible costs £32,255 OTR while the range-topping 335i M Sport costs £40,250 OTR..

NEW BMW 130I M SPORT LIMITED EDITION
An exclusive new BMW 1 Series model comes to the range in Spring 2007. Based on the 265hp 130i, all 130i M Sport Limited Edition models will be built in Carbon Black metallic paint with a Lemon leather interior and come with 18-inch World Touring Car Championship-style light alloy wheels.

Other differences that set it apart from a standard 130i M Sport include Chrome Line exterior surrounds to the windows and a bespoke monikered start/stop button. This is in addition to the M Sport equipment level that includes Aluminium Glacier Silver interior trim, Individual anthracite headlining, M Sports steering wheel and M doorsill finishers to enhance the car. Sports seats, a short-shift M gearstick, Sports suspension and the M Aerodynamic exterior styling package complete the upgrade.

Only 160 BMW 130i M Sport Limited Edition cars will be available in the UK priced at £30,270 OTR. News of the new model comes as pricing for the rest of the BMW 1 Series 3-door range has been confirmed.

Remember a few weeks ago when we reported about the historic 1939 Auto Union Type D going on auction by Christies? Well, although the car seems to be listed at the auction-site, according to Hemmings Auto Blog, Christies announced that it withdraw the Auto Union Type D from Friday’s Retromobile Sale in Paris so they can “further explore into the car’s race history, in collaboration with Audi Tradition”. Of course many of you will think, that’s another way of saying “we are questioning its authenticity” or to be blunt, “it’s a fake”.

However, as Daniel Strohl rightly notes, how authentic would you expect a reconstructed 1939 automobile to be? Not much, so does that make it a fake? No, but if the specific car didn’t actually take part in races, that'll significantly depreciate its value which was estimated at about 8.8 to 12 million EUR. Via: Hemmings Auto Blog

Christie’s announcement: "Christie’s today announced that it will postpone the sale of the 1939 Auto Union - Grand Prix V12 Type D race car from the February Retromobile sale in Paris pending further exploration into the car’s race history, in collaboration with Audi Tradition"

Next time your throw your gum wrapper in the back seat consider this story. A woman in West Yarmouth, MA lost control of her car because it was filled with abundant amounts of trash. Apparently coffee cups and pieces of rubbish fell and got lodged in the gas and break pedal while she was backing out of the post office causing the car to spill out into the street and into a parking lot. Jeez, I thought my car was bad. What a slob! Via: Motorpasion Source: wbztv

Can this be true? Will Europeans finally get a chance to taste a true-blue, all American Chevrolet family car instead of those “bastardly” rebadged Daewoo’s…? Ok, I’m exaggerating now. Anyway, while Chevrolet says “we’re considering to bringing the HHR to Europe” I’m more than sure that they’ll bring it. Why the heck would they go in all that trouble to show it in Geneva? PRESS RELEASE: CHEVROLET PRESENTS EXCITING HHR IN GENEVA

  • Chevrolet HHR Brings Fun and Functionality to the Compact Segment
  • Unique styling with functional interior
  • Fun to drive and spacious

Chevrolet Europe is considering bringing the HHR to Europe and will unveil the exciting compact model at Geneva motor show on March 6. The HHR is a unique vehicle that combines styling and interior adaptability to create a vehicle suited to all lifestyles and it has a distinct design that was inspired by the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban – the original utility vehicle.

HHR is a four-door vehicle with a rear touch-pad liftgate. Its high roof evokes the look of the innovative 1949 Chevy Suburban. The HHR is easily recognizable with its large, square fender flares and a hemispherical grille. The jeweled lighting effects, as well as a flared, twin-taillamp design in the rear that create a look that is half street machine and half vintage Corvette. Stamped door and window appearances with a one-piece wraparound molding contribute to the clean, detailed design and are uncommon in contemporary vehicles. The HHR’s rear window is flush with the body side.

The HHR has a choice of two technologically sophisticated inline four-cylinder engines, which balances usable power with fuel and emissions efficiency: the 2.2L engine with 149hp and torque of 210 Nm and the 2.4L unit with 175 hp and torque of 228 Nm.

Zagato decided to resurrect one of the one of the most historical but also forgotten brands of the Italian automotive industry: Diatto. Story has it that Diatto manufactured its first car in 1905 and it path often crossed paths with Zagato. Diatto cars were known for their innovative engineering and as early as the 1920s they were equipped with four-wheel brakes and four-speed gearboxes. Unfortunately, although you can check out Diatto’s history by opening this analytical PDF file, Zagato hasn’t released any specific details on the Geneva concept. PRESS RELEASE: DIATTO BY ZAGATO - OTTOVU PROJECT

The Geneva motor show goes on - the by now classic tradition of passionate clients of exclusive car manufacturers, which has always stimulated the creativity of the Italian vehicle body makers and enhanced international motor shows.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Diatto brand, two keen collectors turned to Zagato with the aspiration of resurrecting past collaboration. Way back in 1921, Ugo Zagato designed a lightweight and aerodynamic body for the Diatto 25 4DS chassis.

In 2007, the Milanese Atelier with its typically rationalist approach to a project, revamps, with a sporty note, the artistry of one of the most historical brands of the Italian automotive industry: Diatto. Created in 1835 with a Perfected Wheel patent, Diatto made their first car in 1905 and often crossed paths with Zagato in their close collaboration with Ettore Bugatti, the Maserati brothers and Tazio Nuvolari.

Looks like Mazda didn’t reveal just one teaser pic after all as we discovered a couple more images of the 2008 Mazda2 / Demio on Automotorundsport. We checked out all of Mazda’s European press sites and we didn’t find these images so I’m guessing that AMS got the special treatment… At least our site-tour wasn’t for nothing us we also discovered a second press-release in German which reveals that the Mazda2 will be offered initially with three petrol engines: 1.3-litres with 75Hp & 84Hp and 1.5 with 103Hp. GERMAN PRESS RELEASE: NEUER KOMPAKTWAGEN ENTWICKELT ZOOM-ZOOM-GEDANKEN WEITER

  • Neuer Kompaktwagen entwickelt Zoom-Zoom-Gedanken weiter

Just received Mazda’s Geneva press release in my mail this morning. Well to be accurate it’s more of a teaser but at least Mazda had the courtesy to add a picture where we get a glimpse of the all-new Mazda2 which is called Mazda Demio in Japan. According to the “Spartan” press release, the new Mazda2 is more than just a new model as it’s also the first vehicle in Mazda’s line up to take the “Zoom-Zoom” philosophy to the next level –whatever that means. Anyhow, design-wise the new Mazda2 looks a whole lot more intriguing than the current boxy bread-van. We’ll have more on the new Mazda2 which will also base the next generation Ford Fiesta later on. -Continued: Click “Read More...” below to see the official press release

PRESS RELEASE: Aston Martin has announced two exciting developments for both new and existing customers of the company’s flagship Vanquish S.

Just 40 examples of a new Vanquish S Ultimate Edition will be handcrafted at the company’s Newport Pagnell production facility in Buckinghamshire. The model represents a luxurious and unique limited edition befitting the Vanquish S’s status as the ultimate Aston Martin and also celebrates the skilled craftsmanship of the team working at Newport Pagnell.

The Ultimate Edition will be available by special request to customers wishing to celebrate the last of a significant car in Aston Martin’s history. Initial feedback suggests the whole allocation of this special edition will be sold within weeks of launch.

The Ultimate Edition centres on changes to the Vanquish S’s renowned colour and trim. On the exterior, these changes include a unique ‘Ultimate Black’ – a striking new colour which will only be available with this car. Inside, the Vanquish S cabin is trimmed in a semi-aniline leather, with coarse stitching, leather headlining and black chrome finish interior fittings. Each car will also be fitted with personalised sill plaques denoting the limited edition number.

The Vanquish S Ultimate Edition retains all performance capabilities of the standard Vanquish S – and accordingly its position as the fastest ever production Aston Martin, capable of a top speed in excess of 200mph (321km/h). No additional charge will be made for the Ultimate Edition, available only with the 2+2 seating arrangement, priced at £182,095.

For existing Vanquish customers, Aston Martin’s world renowned Works Service department are to offer a new transmission conversion for owners of the company’s flagship model, adding to their reputation for an unparalleled level of personalisation.

Serving as a further example of the depth of bespoke services available via Works Service, existing Vanquish owners will now be able to order a transmission conversion from the car’s existing Auto Shift Manual (ASM) system, to a conventional stick-shift manual.

Working in conjunction with the company’s Special Vehicles Operations team from Gaydon, Works Service has developed the system over the last 12 months, before previewing the conversion to selected Vanquish customers.

Kingsley Riding-Felce, Director, Customer Care and Works Service, said: “This project underlines our commitment to adapting to customer requests, whether they are for Aston Martins from the past or modern cars such as the Vanquish S.”

Since its launch in 2001, the Vanquish has been equipped with fingertip controlled, Formula 1-style paddles which enables almost imperceptible gear changes in under 250 milliseconds. Advanced electronics also permit the close ratio six speed manual transmission to be programmed to operate automatically.

Drivers with a preference for a conventional stick-shift transmission will now have the option of this new Works Service-only modification which is available to order immediately, with prices commencing from £13,250 (+ VAT).

Established as a modern classic, the Vanquish’s muscular 2+2 epitomises Aston Martin's core values of power, beauty and soul. It is the ultimate sports car for the discerning owner. I’m pretty sure that you’re scanning the press release to find what kind of model will Nissan unveil at the Geneva Show besides the revised 313Hp 2007 350Z. You shouldn’t bother though cause that’s about all Nissan will reveal until the Geneva press conference at 11:15 on Tuesday 6 March.

Just came to me though that during the world presentation of the Nissan Qashqai at Paris in September, I had an interesting chat with Brian Carolin, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing of Nissan Europe and one of the most talkative and “no bullshit” car execs I’ve met. At one point I asked him whether Nissan was planning to substitute the Primera with a new mid-size sedan or if they would follow the same tactic as with the Almera, somewhat replacing it with a crossover and more specifically, with the new X-Trail.

Carolin’s answer was that, the X-Trail which will be unveiled in early 2007, most probably at the Geneva show, will also take upon the task of “stealing” buyers from the mid-size sedan segment. Even though this is hypothetical, I wouldn't be surprised if the new X-Trail was more or less based on the Nissan Rogue we saw at the Detroit Show. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the official press release and a high-res gallery of the Euro 2007 350Z

PRESS RELEASE: NISSAN AT THE 77TH INTERNATIONAL GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2007

  • World premiere of a new model for Europe
  • Extensive revisions to 350Z including:
  • New generation VQ engine
  • Increase in power and torque
  • Redesigned bonnet profile
  • New exterior and interior colours
  • New tyres for improved refinement

Trappes, France, (12th February, 2007) Nissan will be unveiling for the first time anywhere in the world a new model which will reinforce the company’s profit and growth aspirations in Europe. Carlos Tavares, Nissan’s Executive Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Product Planning, will present the new model at Nissan’s press conference at 11:15 on Tuesday 6 March (1st press day). No further details will be released until the press conference.

As well as the world premiere, Nissan will also be showing the new, updated 350Z which will reinforce its credentials as a pure sports car with thrilling, involving performance.

With the fitment of the next generation 3.5 V6 engine – engine code VQ35HR – power has risen to 313PS (230kW) at 6800rpm and torque is now rated at 358Nm at 4800rpm, while the maximum engine speed has increased by 500rpm to 7500rpm. Nearly 80% of major engine parts are new, providing improved acceleration and responsiveness.

To achieve the additional performance, a dual intake system has been fitted and the variable valve timing system has a wider range of operation, plus the addition of a common length exhaust manifold reduces back pressure. Those changes combine to boost low and mid-range torque.

In order to achieve the higher rev limit, the crank journal and crank pin have increased in size. At the bottom of the engine, a ladder frame has been added to stiffen the crank and reduce vibration.

The introduction of a second knock sensor, an asymmetric piston pattern, improved cylinder cooling and iridium spark plugs will combine to improve the efficiency of the ignition cycle, while an increase in compression ratio from 10.3 to 10.6 has liberated more top end power. Despite all these changes, weight and fuel consumption remain unchanged, but the engine’s centre of gravity has been lowered by 15mm.

To accommodate the new engine the front bonnet has been discreetly redesigned and is now reminiscent of the original 240Z, thanks to a slightly raised profile, while three new exterior colours will also be offered. Temper Orange is a striking shade but also contains a subtle green “flip” which can be seen in soft light and gives the car a surprising tone, while a new grey – Precision Grey – and Night Blue complete the colour line-up.

Inside, a new trim has also been introduced, which is called Frost Grey. It is a pale tone and adds a touch of sophistication to the car’s interior. As well as a new interior trim colour, another important change to the interior is the fitment of Active Headrests, to minimise the chances of neck injury in the event of a rear impact.

And to improve on-road refinement, the 350Z is now equipped with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres, however grip levels remain unaffected.

Don’t you just love useless gadgets; you know, stuff like these scale-car light switches we found at boutiquetoyou.co.uk. Just turning these little “critters” around to click the light on, off or to adjust the brightness makes your day...light! Too bad the car-light switches are 400 Watt, which means that they’re only suitable for the UK. Via: Spluch & Boutiquetoyou

Leaked: 2008 Jeep Wrangler SRT-6 AFD

Monday, February 12, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

We where more than surprised this morning when we discovered this Jeep Wrangler SRT-6 rendering at JK-Forum.com. The author of the post claims he got a snapshot of the rendering with his cell-phone from JP Magazine in the Dispatch section of April 2007 issue. The bad news is that, according to information provided by JP Magazine, the ultimate Jeep Wrangler SRT-6 will receive a supercharged version of the 4.0L V-6 from the Dodge Nitro R/T pumping out 415HP and 410 lb-ft of torque. The good news is that the 415Hp Wrangler is nothing more than a leaked April Fools Day hoax… Via: JK-Forum

They might not have managed to put the 2002 Razor Concept in production but this time, Dodge looks like it means business the anti-MX-5 Demon Concept that’ll premier in the Geneva Show in March. The concept is roughly the size of a Mazda MX-5 and it’s equipped with Chrysler’s 170Hp 2.4-liter motor that sends power to the right end of the car.

While I like the simple and functional form of the interior styling I can’t say that I’m excited with the exterior design of the Demon. It looks a bit too fussy with all those “bungle-style” concave surfaces, lacking the simplicity of the Mazda MX-5 –even of the Pontiac Solstice. Also, doesn’t the Demon conspicuously remind you of a shrunk down version of the 2005 Chrysler Firepower Concept? -Continued: Click “Read More...” below to see the official press release and a high-res image gallery

Although the official press release denies us of any details concerning the Demon’s underpinnings, the only other rear-wheel drive platform in the DaimlerChrysler Group that could be used on the Demon is the one the Mercedes SLK. “Coincidently” the two Roadsters share the same wheelbase length (Demon: 2.429 mm, SLK: 2.430 mm).

PRESS RELEASE: Dodge Demon Roadster Concept – Simple Soul, Artful Attitude Make for Radical Results

The Dodge Demon concept is a compact, nimble "roadster with an attitude," a perfect balance of classic sports car proportion and simplicity blended with modern design and performance.

"While the iconic Dodge Viper is a dream car for many, the Dodge Demon is designed to be an attainable dream car," said Jae Chung – Dodge Demon Principal Exterior Designer, Chrysler Group. "The exterior design is simple yet bold, featuring an energetic combination of curves and intersecting planes."

The bodyside of the Dodge Demon main character line flows up and over the front wheel, then drops diagonally to an angular color-keyed vent on the rear fender that directs cooling air to the rear brakes. In similar fashion, the compound rear fender surface curves up and over the rear wheel, sweeping into a broad diagonal plane extending to the taillamp. The resulting muscular fender form projects boldly beyond the main body, underscoring that the Dodge Demon concept is a rear-wheel-drive machine.

The rear surface of the body is divided into three planes with two chamfered outboard planes, dominated by long, tapering trapezoidal taillamps. The taillamps sport translucent red inset lenses that surround LED back-up lamps.

Up front, the signature Dodge crosshair grille is stuffed into an aggressive, menacing, trapezoidal opening that thrusts boldly forward.

Set into elongated angled triangles, the projector headlamps, delineated by bright rings, are set into black chrome bezels, giving the front end mean-looking "eyes" that accentuate the grille opening. Encompassing the upper portions of the front fenders and sporting two recessed air outlets, the Dodge Demon's hood is hinged at the front, adding a just-for-fun performance-car look and feel.

Featuring an open-spoke design, the wheels are pushed to the corners of the body for a dramatic stance and capable performance. The 19-inch brushed aluminum wheels are set into assertive, asymmetrical openings that reprise the body's playful combination of curves and planes.

The beltline kicks up at the rear and into the higher deck lid contour, giving the lucky occupants an encapsulated, protective feeling.

"In the manner of timeless British sports cars, the interior of the Dodge Demon is purposely functional, not frivolous," said Dan Zimmermann – Dodge Demon Principal Interior Designer. "Everything relating to the driving experience is emphasized, while that which is not is made visually secondary.

"The well laid out instrument panel, for example, is familiar, yet modern. Everything you really need – the gauges, circular AC outlets, radio – is encapsulated in a cross-car brushed aluminum bezel that also accentuates the width of the cabin. Secondary controls and features, such as the HVAC knobs and the passenger-side glove box, are located below this bezel," Zimmerman added.

In a similar functional manner, the floor console is deliberately not a part of, or attached to, the instrument panel. The console is dominated by the squat ready-at-hand silver and black manual shift knob, and its leather boot is set into a bright trim ring. The wide, brushed aluminum console bezel also incorporates the recessed emergency brake handle, with the window switch gear, softly lit cup holders and 12V power outlet organized into a graphically unified shape. The upper portion of the instrument panel, including the cluster brow, is accented by a stitched seam with contrasting silver thread.

"Each of these features is set flush, or nearly flush, with the bezel surface so as to establish a 'clear zone' for the driver's shift arm in all seating positions, with nothing in the way of the driving experience," Zimmerman said.

The raised plateau at the rear of the console incorporates a covered storage bin – with a lid that serves as an armrest between shifts – while the portion of the console extending under the instrument panel has an open bin handy for incidentals.

The steering wheel employs an aluminum open-spoke design with each of the three spokes intersecting the small circular hub for a timeless sports car look. The wheel rim itself is brushed aluminum on the inside, complemented with stitched vinyl on the outer rim. Immediately forward of the wheel, the four-gauge cluster features classic white-on-black dials with graphics inspired by sports watches. Each circular gauge is set handsomely inside a finely detailed silver and chrome bezel ring, while gauge pointers are colored to match the exterior.

The doors feature durable, vertical grab handles, each anchored to a silver bezel housing the chrome door remote handle. The lower portion of each door features a stylish brushed aluminum bezel that encapsulates the large circular speaker grille and then drops sharply as it moves rearward to form the map pocket outer panel, mimicking a feature line on the car's exterior.

The Dodge Demon's seats feature contoured bolsters that are just high enough to provide support when cornering, yet do not hinder ingress or egress. Set in exposed low-gloss carbon fiber shells, the black seats with integral head restraints feature inserts of textured "Momentum" fabric mated to fabric bolsters, with specific sew lines accented by silver thread. Individual brushed aluminum and carbon fiber roll bars are positioned directly behind the bucket seats. With long seat tracks, there is ample storage behind the seats. Additional covered storage is provided in the bulkhead between the seats.

The Dodge Demon concept is an affordable Dodge sports car which merges brand cues of bold design and powerful performance with an open-air "fun-to-drive" attitude.

Talk about rolling down with your car…. Actually, the only info we have on the “Bus gBall” is that Gibbons sent these photos to a pal of his named Corky Coker, who in turn published them on his blog. Yeah I know, this was released on Friday along with its Pug sibling, the 4007 so I’ll cut the “merde” and get to the point. Its one thing rebadging an “X” model and introducing it for the first time to a “Y” market (e.g. Holden Commodore - Pontiac G8 and Daewoo Tosca – Chevrolet Epica) and another when you bring a bunch of rebadged models in the same market at the same time – Citroen C-Crosser, Peugeot 4007 and Mitsubishi Outlander. PRESS RELEASE: CITROEN’S C-CROSSER TO BE UNVEILED AT GENEVA MOTOR SHOW

Citroen’s bold, innovative and versatile C-Crosser is to make its World Show debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Citroen’s first ever SUV will then go on sale in Europe later this summer. With its strong styling, flexible 5+2 seating configuration, powerful yet environmentally friendly diesel engine (capable of virtually 40mpg on the combined cycle), together with its 4-wheel drive capability, the C-Crosser will complement Citroen’s range and offer a vehicle to appeal to drivers with a love of outdoor pursuits.

The C-Crosser’s exterior styling radiates vitality and robustness with the front of the vehicle dominated by the familiar Citroen chevrons that stretch across the multiple-ribbed bonnet to unite with the streamlined headlights. The chunky wheel arches, elegant chrome detailing and striking two-tone wheels further emphasise the C-Crosser’s muscular design.

Citroen’s impressive, new generation 156bhp 2.2HDi engine produces a massive 380Nm of torque at just 2,000rpm. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine has strong green credentials with its low fuel consumption, ultra-clean Diesel Particulate Filter System and ability to run on 30% bio-diesel.

To ensure an optimum blend of comfort, road holding and off-road capability, drivers have a choice of three transmission settings that can be changed depending on road conditions and driving style. Drivers can switch between two-wheel drive, electronically controlled four-wheel drive and a lock setting for low-grip conditions, all of which can be selected using a control mounted on the central console.

Occupants benefit from the versatile second and third row of seats, which feature an easy-to-use modular design allowing seating changes to be made quickly and effortlessly to provide a flat floor and vast load space. The vehicle’s generous dimensions offer comfortable passenger space, over 20 storage compartments and a large boot with a useful split-opening tailgate for easy loading.

This tailgate optimises the advantages of the flat boot space so heavy objects can simply slide in. Opening in two sections, the lower part is able to support up to 200kg, allowing it to double up as an al fresco seat, perfect for owners with a love of outdoor pursuits.

To further enhance passenger comfort the C-Crosser offers a selection of optional hi-tech equipment, including a useful reversing camera which assists with manoeuvring and parking in tight spaces. Located above the number plate, the camera is automatically activated once the vehicle is shifted into reverse and the image is displayed on the smart navigation screen.

Citroen’s managing director Xavier Duchemin commented; “The C-Crosser will add a new dimension to the already diverse Citroen range and ensures that we have a vehicle to suit all our customer needs, whether it be an SUV, a compact MPV or a supermini.”

2009 Ferrari Themed Park breaks cover

Sunday, February 11, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

We’ve been hearing about Ferrari’s “Disneyland” style theme park for a long time now but we didn’t have any idea of how the park would look like. Thanks to “Car” we get that chance as the British Magazine managed to obtain the architect's drawings revealing the plans for the park that will be built in 2009 in Abu Dhabi, the capital(ism…) city of the United Arab Emirates.

The Italian car(?) manufacture plans to open the theme park in 2009. It will cover a massive 250,000 sqm and will feature 24 themed attractions for everyone who can afford it. According to Ferrari, attractions include a 70-metre-high G-Force Tower and a twin rollercoaster ride that for the first time allows its passengers to race against each other. Moreover, go-karting, rally driving and dune buggy tracks, and a vast array of food and beverage outlets.-Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the rest of the article plus extra images

A true “Disney” style park wouldn’t be complete without signature hotels, apartments, villas, a wide selection of restaurants, a retail area of about 300,000 sqm, golf courses, a water park, a tourist marina, a hotel overlooking the lagoon and numerous food and beverage outlets. Moreover, the park will also feature a motor racing circuit destined to host the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009…

Whats next a Fiat-Ferrari? Oops, I forgot, they’ve already done that more than once and not only with a Fiat but also with Lancia (Thema 8.32V). I totally agree with a reader’s comment I saw on Car’s site: "The five-year old inside of me is thrilled to pieces. The thirty-two year old exterior is gob-smacked at how the old exclusive supercar marques have become less exclusive as the years go by and have lost their soul” Via: Car

PRESS RELEASE: In response to high customer demand, Land Rover has announced that it is to launch a commercial derivative of the award-winning Discovery 3, which will go on sale on the 19 March 2007. Since launch in 2004, the Discovery 3 has demonstrated a class-leading breadth of capability and accrued awards from all over the world. Now, it has been engineered with approval from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to gain N1 Light Commercial 4x4 Vehicle status. Business users will therefore be able to take advantage of the Benefit in Kind tax and full VAT reclaim associated with Light Commercial Vehicles.

There will be two derivatives available: the Discovery 3 Commercial and the Discovery 3 XS Commercial. Standard features include 2130 litres of loadspace with a full length phenolic floor, privacy glass, two-piece bulkhead, four corner air suspension and Terrain Response. “Since launch, our dealers have received a number of requests from customers for a commercial derivative, many of whom bought standard models and then converted them independently for their own commercial use,” stated John Edwards, Land Rover UK managing director.

“The launch of the Discovery 3 Commercial means that for the first time, customers are now able to purchase a Land Rover approved Discovery 3 commercial vehicle, which benefits from the superior levels of ride, handling, comfort and equipment offered by the standard Discovery 3. We believe the Discovery Commercial will further re-define the 4x4 commercial segment.”

All Land Rover vehicles include a CO2 offset for the first 45,000 miles within the on-the-road price. Administered by Climate Care, an independent CO2 offset provider, the program ensures that the average amount of CO2 produced by a Land Rover is offset by investments in a mixed portfolio of projects, including renewable energy, technology change and energy efficiency initiatives.

One of this year's main attractions at the Geneva Show, the 2008 Ford Mondeo has broken cover about a week before the embargo ended thanks to a leak on the web. Although we actually have access to the full press pack we’ll play fair and stick to the short-press release and the 5 pics we found on several web-sites and forums like automotoportal, thecarlounge etc.

Now a few things about the all-new Mondeo that could go global finding its way even into the US market as several Ford execs recently admitted. According to several Ford people we spoke to, the 2008 Mondeo will hold all the key-elements of the current model (excellent chassis with sporty road manners, spacious cabin & competitive prices) ditching away two of its most serious cons: dull interior and exterior design and the mediocre plastics of the cabin. For the moment, we can only comment about its design which has as much to do with its predecessor as the Escort did with the first gen Focus. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the rest of the article and the image gallery

Practically, the new Mondeo is the sedan version of the COTY 2007 winner, the S-MAX with whom it shares the platform, engine range, most of the interior and of course the “Kinetic” design language. Apart from the 145Hp 2.0, 220Hp 2.5T petrol and 110 / 125Hp 1.8 TDCi, 130 / 140Hp 2.0 TDCi diesel engines from the S-MAX, the 2008 Mondeo will also be available with two new petrol engines, a 110 /125Hp 1.6 Ti-VCT and a 161Hp 2.3-litre. Sales of the new Mondeo (4d, 5d and SW) are expected to start Euro-wide in April. Via: Automotoportal , thecarlounge

Making its world premiere at the 2007 Geneva Show, the 207 RC features the same 1.6 Turbo engines as the MINI Cooper S producing 175Hp and 240Nm of torque. Only difference here is that Peugeot’s hot mini hatch –unknown why, is equipped with a 5speed manual gearbox whereas the Cooper S gets a 6speed box. Funny enough, both hatches feature a 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) figure of 7,1 sec. As for top speed, the MINI goes up to 225 km/h (140 mph) while the 207 RC up to 220 km/h (138 mph).

Appearance-wise, we’re kinda disappointed with the RC’s overly subtle exterior looks cause practically, the only element that differentiates it from any other 207 are the metallic mirror coverings. Same goes for the interior as the most significant and visible change are the sport bucket seats. Strange if you think about the models that the 207 RC will be put up against eg. Opel Corsa OPC , Renault Clio Sport etc. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to read the official press release and a high-res gallery

Ok, I agree a 140Hp 4cylinder 1.8-liter engine doesn’t quite fit the “Ultimate Driving Machine” moto that describes a BMW model. But, to go on and fit a… 250hp 2.0 VTEC Honda S2000 engine on a 318is Coupe, that’s plump crazy and yes, we just love it!

Forget about the screaming Japanese chick in the pink cowboy hat, be patient with the “get to know you” scenes at the start of the video, and get a load of that superb Honda motor screaming aloud inside the bimmers chassis! Just look at that rev needle breaking with ease the 7.000 rpm end point of the bimmers tachometer continuing its course towards the other way! Via: Autoblog.it

As with all versions of its 207 compact, Peugeot is previewing the upcoming 207 SW with a concept. The 4.156 mm long 207 Outdoor ads a crossover look to the SW (which should be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Show) thanks to its 4x4 themed bodykit and the slightly raised road clearance. Beside the large panorama glass roof and a separately opening back window the Concept Car is characterized by the redesigned rear end which draws several styling elements from the 407 SW and 1007. -Continued: Click “ Read More…” below to see the press release and a high-res image gallery

Chicago Auto Show: 2008 Scion tC

Friday, February 09, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Nothing more than a “light” facelift that includes minor changes in the front fascia (grille, dark headlamps etc), new rear light clusters and a few extras ticks in the equipment list (iPod Connectivity). Here’s an interesting thought though that just came up to me. Since Toyota stopped the production of Celica and MR2 models in Europe, why not compensate with the tC? I mean, with a smaller engine capacity and a price tag 10% higher than an Auris, I believe that a lot of people would be interested in Europe. -Continued: Click “ Read More…” below to see the press release and a high-res image gallery

PRESS RELEASE: Scion tC Receives Freshened Styling And Standard Apple iPod Connectivity For 2008

The Scion tC, the best-selling vehicle in the Scion lineup, raises the bar in the sports coupe segment as it receives sharp styling revisions, new standard equipment and safety features for 2008.

Freshened Exterior and Enhanced Interior
The 2008 tC is distinguished by the new Scion family front fascia, a menacing horizontal combination of headlights and grille. For the tC this includes a new upper mesh grille, lattice lower grille and projector-type low beam headlights with black trim. The tC also receives eye-catching rear tail lights similar in style to the headlights with round combination lamps.

Inside, the tC receives a deep orange combination meter on the instrument panel, silver-colored accents on the door assist grips and center cluster, updated seat fabric and Pioneer subwoofer.

Azure Pearl and Black Cherry Pearl exterior colors were replaced with Sizzling Crimson Mica and Wave Line Pearl.

Standard iPod Connectivity
Apple iPod connectivity is standard across the Scion lineup for 2008. Scion's standard 160-watt maximum output Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system features a head unit with iPod control. This head unit integrates track, artist and album information from the iPod into a one-line display on the head unit's screen. Connectivity is achieved by simply plugging the iPod into a port via a connector cable, providing outstanding sound quality through the car's stereo system and constant power to the iPod. Music is controlled through the head unit and steering wheel audio controls. A standard mini-jack port also allows users to listen to their portable music collection through the tC's Pioneer speakers.

Since many Scion customers add in-car entertainment systems to their vehicle, the tC comes standard with rear head unit outputs allowing for the addition of external amps to boost power to the front and rear speakers, and subwoofers.

The tC's optional premium audio system adds one more feature to the standard head unit, the ability to download “skins” to play on the LCD faceplate. Customers can download images, four-second video clips and eight-second movies from Pioneer's website. In addition, Pioneer software allows customers to burn their own images and movies onto a CD and upload them onto the available head unit.

Both the standard and premium head units retain key Scion audio system features such as Scion Sound Processing (SSP) where listeners can choose from three pre-set equalizer settings, satellite radio compatibility, a user-customizable welcome screen, MP3 and WMA capability, Automatic Sound Leveling (ASL) and Sound Retouch Technology (SRT), which provides clearer CD sound quality. Both systems will also feature six speakers: two tweeters and speakers in each door panel.

Advanced Safety
Like all 2008 Scions, the tC comes standard with front dual stage airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, tire pressure monitor system, headrests, three-point seatbelts in all five seating positions and a first aid kit. The tC also features a driver's knee airbag.

Sporty Package
The tC's roominess and ride comfort can be attributed to its 106.3-inch wheelbase and 69.1-inch wide stance. In addition the tC has four-wheel independent suspension, strut-type front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension, for responsive handling.

A four-wheel disc brake system is standard on the tC. A two-step brake booster increases power assist in proportion to pedal force to provide precise pedal feel. The tC comes equipped with standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD). ABS helps to prevent the wheels from locking during severe braking maneuvers, and EBD monitors differences in front- and rear-wheel speeds and distributes optimal braking force to all four wheels.

Fun-To-Drive Performance
The tC is powered by a 2.4-liter double overhead-cam four cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). This CARB-certified Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) produces 161 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162-lb.ft. of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The tC features a five-speed manual transmission or an available electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission.

Fully Equipped
All Scion models come well-equipped in a “mono spec” trim. The tC offers full standard equipment so the customer only needs to choose between manual or automatic transmissions and vehicle color.

Standard features include the panorama glass power moonroof (a first in this segment), air conditioning, cruise control, exterior mirrors with integrated turn signal lights, power door locks and mirrors, rear cargo tonneau cover, auto up/down power windows with jam protection, in-key remote keyless entry, rolling-code engine immobilizer security system, auto-off headlamps, electronic hatch release, chrome-plated exhaust tip and a unique audio unit cover.

All Scion models come with complimentary factory-recommended maintenance services for the first 5,000 mile and 10,000 mile intervals, to be performed by an authorized Scion or Toyota dealership.

The standard tC model is available in a choice of seven colors: Flint Mica, Super White, Black Sand Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Sizzling Crimson Mica, Wave Line Pearl and Nautical Blue Metallic. Exterior colors are complemented by a high-quality dark charcoal fabric interior in the standard tC model.

Blank Canvas
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) offers many parts to enhance tC performance, including performance suspension kits, a high-performance clutch, quick shifter, leather-wrapped shift knob and sequential shift light kit.

It's easy for customers to take the tC to the next level with Scion Genuine Accessories. Customers can change the tC's look with the approximately 40 available accessories including EMX Super seven-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli PZero Nero P255/40Z R18 all-season tires, polished stainless steel muffler, color-keyed ground effects and a rear lip spoiler. The Optomize accessory program, available at Scion dealers, also offers customers the convenience of cutting-edge, well-known name-brand accessories.

For those who really want to express their creativity, Scion also offers the tC Spec Package model aimed at the tuner segment with a lower price point than the standard model. Since wheel changes are so popular in the tuner community, the tC Spec Package model comes standard with steel wheels, P205/55 R16 tires and seven-spoke wheel covers. The tC Spec Package also features a fixed glass panorama roof, unique upholstery, a urethane steering wheel, and a grille and headlight garnish with special treatment. The color pallet for this model includes Super White, Flint Mica, Black Sand Pearl and Classic Silver metallic, compared to the standard model's seven colors.

Comfort and Class
A Scion would not be complete without unexpected utility and content for its class. The tC offers this and more with its unique attention to detail.

The tC's comfortable front sport bucket seats feature driver's side height and thigh support adjustments, along with a walk-in function with memory for both the seat and backrest. The push of a convenient lever at the top of the seat back yields a wide step-in space for easy access to the rear seats.

The metal-tone center console features a genuine cast-aluminum temperature control dial flanked by soft-touch electronic buttons and an LCD display showing exterior temperature, seven fan speeds and a clock. Shutter-type flush-closing dash vents complement the center console's waterfall design.

The dash and upper door panels are covered with unique trim that was inspired by the texture of Japanese paper, while the front-passenger airbag is seamlessly integrated into the dash. Dampers are used for the interior moving parts and ensure smooth operation. The tC's low NVH levels are maintained with extensive use of sound absorption materials.

The tC's rear seats deliver utility and comfort. The rear can recline to 45 degrees and can be adjusted into 10 different positions. The 60/40-split rear seats fold forward for a nearly flat cargo floor, and when both are folded flat provide more than 8.5 feet of length for cargo. Standard tie down hooks in the rear seat and cargo areas provided added convenience.

Storage is abundant in the tC with four roomy map pockets, bag hooks in side panels, numerous CD, bottle, cup and cell phone holders, and a two-tiered fabric-covered center console. Additional storage can be found under the right rear cargo area for securing valuables.

Generous Warranty
All Scion models are backed by a 36-month/36,000 mile basic new-vehicle limited warranty that applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60,000 miles and corrosion with no mileage limitation.
