It’s bigger; it’s sexier; it looks more upscale and it’s lighter than the current Mazda6. If the Japanese firm has managed to retain that “zoom-zoom” character in the 6’s driving dynamics, what more could you possibly want from a mid-size sedan? Sales start in Europe from mid-October with the option of three petrol engines (1.8L, 2.0L & 2.5L) and a 2.0 turbodiesel. US buyers will have to wait until next summer were it will be introduced as a 2009 model. See our Frankfurt report on the all-new Mazda6 by clicking here.

The site that digs the "Land Of The Rising Sun" –ok, it’s called Nihon Car, managed to capture the forthcoming Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X in Ralliart clothing at the "Motor Sport Japan 2007”, that take place in Tokyo this week. Till then, follow the jump to check out Nihon Car’s short video of the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Ralliart. -Continued

Ford’s China joint venture, Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), launched operations at its new US$510 million manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China where it will produce the new Mazda2 and its European sibling, the Ford Fiesta (production version of the Verve concept), scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2008. The plant’s initial capacity is 160,000 vehicles per year, boosting Ford's total annual passenger car capacity in China to more than 410,000 vehicles. -Continued after the jump

During the ceremony in Nanjing, Ford’s CEO, Alan Mulally, told Automotive News that Ford might even export cars from the plant. "Export is a possibility. It's all about competitiveness. We will use our research and engineering and manufacturing in China for worldwide operations. The real competitors going forward will be the ones who leverage their assets around the world," said Mulally. “I can imagine making the Verve in China is a possibility."

Remember our unofficial spy shot readers, Bastien & Wesley who sent us picture of the upcoming BMW 7-Series last week? Well, our friend Bastien also scooped a weird looking Jaguar S-Type with an XF front-end during his vacations in Spain a couple of weeks ago. We did a little research ourselves and turns out that the camouflaged S-Type that you’re seeing here is actually a test mule for the forthcoming XF-R, expected to roll out in a major car show in 2008 with sales starting most likely in the first quarter of 2009. Though Jag’s being quite secretive about its BMW M5 and Audi RS6 adversary, we’ve heard insiders talking about a tweaked version of the XF’s 420Hp 4.2-litre V8 engine producing over 500Hp.

We thank Bastien and Wesley for the spy pic!

GM Employees On Nationwide Strike As UAW Talks Fail

Monday, September 24, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

As many insiders predicted, contract talks between General Motors and the United Auto Workers failed resulting to the first nationwide strike of GM factory employees since 1970. The strike was caused due to the conflict between GM’s CEO Rick Wagoner's need to cut labor and health-care costs, and UAW President Ron Gettelfinger's goal of protecting the pay and benefits of 73,000 union members at GM's U.S. plants. -Continued after the jump

Al Benchich, president of UAW Local 909 in Warren, Michigan noted characteristically on Bloomberg, “We've been bending and GM management wants us to bend more and they are not willing to give''. On the other side of the fence, GM spokesman Dan Flores said, “We are disappointed in the UAW's decision to call a national strike. The bargaining involves complex, difficult issues that affect the job security of our U.S. workforce and the long-term viability of the company.'' Whoever’s to blame, there’s one thing for sure; GM’s going to be in heaps of trouble if it doesn't don’t end this strike as soon as possible.

Kia Motors has won a contract to supply Cee’ds to the Slovakian police forces until 2010. The Cee’d is manufactured locally at Kia’s first-ever plant in Europe, the €1 billion Zilina. According to the Korean company, the first batch of 43 cee’d police patrol cars were handed-over last week and a further 350 cee’d cars are scheduled for delivery later this year. Over the next three years, up to 4,000 Kia vehicles could be ordered as part of the Slovakian Interior Ministry’s re-equipment program. “This significant fleet order from the Slovakia Republic is an endorsement of the design, quality and durability of the Kia cee’d,” commented Jean-Charles Lievens, Senior Vice President Kia Motors Europe.

Here’s what happens when you charge outrageously insane taxes on new cars: people turn passenger cars into trucks! Denmark features one of the most outrageous taxation systems in the world when it comes to cars (see our report on the European car taxation system by clicking here). There’s even a common saying in Denmark: “Get one car –pay for three”! So, in order to get around the tax burden, Danes turn cars into pickups, thus paying a fraction of the taxes.

We visited Audi’s official Denmark site to see the price-list of the 2008 Audi TT Coupe. Boy were we in for a surprise: prices start at 637,895 DK (Danish Krones) or $120,500 / €85,500 for the TT 2.0 TFSI 6-speed and go up to 805,492 DK or $152,200 / €108,100 for the TT 3.2 V6 FSi! No wonder people turn Audi TT’s into pick ups! PS: You have to look at Eurobiler’s (the company that converts TT’s Coupes to El Caminos) press photos. -Continued after the jump

The Oktoberfest is a two-week festival full of Bavarian beer that takes place during late September and early October in Munich, Germany, with some six million people attending every year. As every festival that respects itself (…), Oktoberfest has its own Playmate. The '07 Oktoberfest playmate was Munich´s Anna Scharl. While we wouldn’t mind taking the green eyed brunette for a swift test ride (in the car, as a companion of course…), we blog about cars so time to explain the connection between the Loder1899's Ford S-MAX and Anna Scharl. The tuned S-MAX was presented at Oktoberfest and it served as a chauffeur vehicle to the 22-year-old’s photo shooting in the Bavarian Alps. -Continued after the jump

Now that we’ve made that clear, let us concentrate on Loder1899’s proposition. The tuning company has equipped Ford’s sporty 7-seater MPV with a custom made, carbon-fiber bodykit. The carbon fiber parts include spoilers, side skirts, front wings, side wings and side gills. Additionally, Loder1899 has developed a paintable material (FGRP: fiberglass reinforced plastics) that the company says “joins and blends in flawlessly with the S-Max’s bodywork”. Loder1899 also offers two distinctive wheel designs, the classic “Jacky” in 18 to 20 inch with stainless steel, silver, black or white coloured applications and the alloy wheel “Sins”. A tyre/wheel set with „Sins“-wheels in 18 inch starts from €475 or $633.

In terms of power, Loder1899 also maximizes the output of the S-Max 1.8 TDCi & 2.0 TDCi diesel engines from 140 hp to 165 hp and from 125 hp to 155 hp respectively. In combination with Loder1899's handcrafted 2x100mm exhaust systems there is an increase in engine power from 220 hp to 270 hp for the 2.5 litre turbo engine. Optionally, Loder1899 also offers a 35mm suspension system.

BMW Sauber F1 Child Seat

Sunday, September 23, 2007 | 9 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

I never had a junior seat like this when I was young. Come to think of it, I didn’t have any sort of safety seat, at all… Nevertheless, times change and dad even wears a seatbelt nowadays –seriously, I’m not joking! Even if you’re not into bimmers, you have to acknowledge that the BMW Sauber F1 Junior Seat really looks the part (Honda fans should take a look here). According to the German carmaker, the new child seat is homologated for weight classes II and III, which means children weighing between 15 and 36 kg or 33 and 79 lb (approx 3.5 - 12 years of age). -Continued after the jump

Good looks apart, BMW's child seat comes with a height-adjustable backrest including a belt carrier and side support as well as a headrest for extra safety. What’s cool though is the fact that the backrest and side support interact with one another, automatically adjusting the seat width as a function of seat height. As a result, the seat literally "grows" with the child sitting in the seat, the correct position being shown by a centimeter scale on the backrest indicating the body height currently set on the seat. And I though it was just a plain, simple child seat. Silly me…

Alien Furniture Made From Scrap Vehicle Parts!

We’ve seen automotive parts transformed into various everyday objects in the past, but turning used car and bike parts, tools and other recycled metal components into Alien themed furniture is a new one for us. Though skilfully handcrafted, we must say that we find Alien furniture a bit eerie –to say the least. Then again, if little Johnny doesn’t eat his food you could always threaten him with the Alien chair… -More pics after the jump

New York Subway To Be Wired For Cellphone Use

Sunday, September 23, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

Despite security worries concerning the use of mobile phone signals in subways, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that all 277 underground stations in the New York subway system would be wired for cellphone use by 2013. However, for all you chitty-chatters, the subway tunnels will not be wired, meaning, no talking in trains. According to the New York Times, the company that won the right to wire the stations, Transit Wireless, will pay New York City Transit a minimum of $46.8 million over 10 years. Additionally, the company will handle the cost of building the wireless network in the stations, estimated at $150 million to $200 million. Under the agreement, cellphone providers will have to pay a fee to Transit Wireless in order to use the network. -Continued after the jump

The first mobile phone networks will be available in 2009 in six downtown Manhattan stations located at 23rd Street and 14th Street on the Eighth Avenue line, 14th Street on the Seventh Avenue line, 14th Street on the Sixth Avenue line, and Eighth Avenue and Sixth Avenue on the L line. The rest of the underground stations will be gradually equipped with the wireless network system by 2013.

All-Composite Humvee 900 Pounds Lighter

Sunday, September 23, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

The US army is testing an all-composite bodied Humvee that saves approximately 900 pounds or 409 kg when compared to a current steel and aluminum 10,000 to 12,000 pound (4.5t to 5.4t) HMMWV carrying the same heavy armor. The all-composite Humvee prototype was the result of an 18-month research and development program run by TPI Composites in conjunction with the U.S. Army TARDEC and AM General Created. According to TPI Composites, the weigh savings in the all-composite Humvee allows for the carriage of additional armor and other life-saving or important equipment. -Continued after the jump

“We can put the strength where we need it,” said Steven Lockard, president and CEO of TPI Composites. “The chassis, for example, has extra carbon for added strength and stiffness, while other composite parts of the vehicle are lighter and more pliable. Every pound of weight we save, that weight is being added back to the vehicle in armor and mine-blast protection,” Lockard said. -Via: TPI Comporites

Motorcyclist’s Pecker Struck By Lightning!

Saturday, September 22, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

We didn’t even know that this was possible, and to be frank, we’re still a bit hesitant to believe it. However, when you think about it, it’s down right hilarious so what the hell, we’ll just tell you the story and it’s up to you to believe it or not. So, according to various reports, Croatian biker, Ante Djindjic, 29, from Zagreb got penis-struck by lightning when he stopped beside the road to do his wee-wee. Here’s what Djindjic claimed:

"I don't remember what happened. One minute I was taking a leak and the next thing I knew I was in hospital. Doctors said the lightning went through my body and because I was wearing rubber boots it earthed itself through my penis. Thankfully, the doctors said that there would be no lasting effects, and my penis will function normally eventually."

Mercedes-Benz Presents 2-Stage Folding Bike

Saturday, September 22, 2007 | 2 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Everybody is entitled to have a little fun and exercise with a bike; even a Mercedes-Benz CLK Cabriolet owner. Problem is, when you own a sports coupe, or a cabriolet, there’s not enough space in the trunk to fit a full size bike. Having that in mind, Mercedes-Benz collaborated with German cycle manufacturer ADP to create a folding bike that can be stored even in the CLK. -Continued after the jump

According to the German luxury car maker, the bike can be folded in stages: first the front and rear wheels fold together via a quick-release fastener on the seat dome then via a second quick-release fastener above the front wheel which allows the handlebars to be pivoted downwards, further reducing the bike’s folded dimensions. Fully folded, the bike measures just 800 x 800 x 280 mm – 31.5’’ x 31.5’’ x 11.0’’, which means that it fits comfortably in, for example, the boot of an open-top CLK Cabriolet and takes up a minimal amount of space in the garage. The Mercedes-Benz Folding Bike will be launched in April 2008 and will be available from Mercedes-Benz

Bogus BMW Sedan Cell Phone

Friday, September 21, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Everyone has to start off from somewhere. Today cell phones, tomorrow, the world of four wheels. So before you start spilling your guts out on this hideous 6 & 7-Series BMW cell phone, remember; these guys are capable of making so much money from a tacky product like this that they could probably afford to build a real life BMW mock before you could say "Rice Balls". They won’t be the first and they definitely won’t be the last. -Click “Read More…” below for extra images

Admittedly, when we first laid eyes on the official image of the '08 Impreza WRX STi, we wondered how it would look like in Subie’s trademark blue color instead of the penny plain gunmetal grey that the Japanese carmaker picked out. And we weren’t the only ones. So did one of our readers. Only difference is that Robbie decided to take matters into photoshop and here’s what he came up with. “Tres bien” Robbie!

2009 BMW 7-Series Scooped By Carscoop Reader

Friday, September 21, 2007 | 2 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Pro spy photographers; eat your heart out! Bastien, an eagle-eyed reader of Carscoop left his bathing suite to rest in piece during his summer vacations in Spain this September preferring to get some "scoop action" in the rugged region of Andalusia. And action he got as Bastien managed to capture (among other cars), the forthcoming BMW 7-Series.

Despite the fact the 7er was undergoing tests in heavy disguise, it is apparent that BMW’s new top sedan will dump the current model’s extravagant or as non-designers call it, gargoyle looks, for a more elegant and dare we say, sporty design. From what we learned, the all-new 7-series will be released sometime during the 2008 calendar year, arriving in the market as a 2009 model. -One more pic after the jump

We thank Bastien and Wesley for sharing the spy pictures!

2009 Audi S4 Caught In The Open

Friday, September 21, 2007 | 5 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Our friends at Autoblog.nl bring us the first spy shots of the upcoming Audi S4 which was caught wearing no camouflage at all. Not seeing any differences compared to the standard Audi A4 that premiered in Frankfurt? Well, you’re partially right as the only visual evidence that this car is actually the S4 and not the A4 are the quad exhaust pipes that lay in the rear diffuser. Of course, when the S4 goes into production next year, it will get the same subtle treatment as the S5 meaning a chromed grille, aluminum mirrors and slightly larger air vents in the front bumper.

As you probably have already guessed, the S4 will hold no mechanical surprises as it will use the S5’s 4.2-litre FSI V8 engine that delivers 354 Hp (compared to 340 Hp of the current S4’s 4.2L V8). Power will be transferred to all wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. -More images after the jump

If there’s one thing we’d really, really like to do in October that would definitely be to attend the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. But, since there’s no money, there’s no Tokyo honey –at least for this year. To compensate we’re trying our best to cover the Tokyo Show right off from the very beginning. And to be honest, we’re very challenged by the fact that it’s a tad more difficult for us to concentrate information for the Tokyo Show compared to major US or European auto salons.

So, here goes. Yesterday we told you that in all, 37 passenger cars will make their world wide premier in Tokyo. Today we managed dig out the number of cars that each Japanese carmaker will debut. As you can see in the list that follows right after the jump, we’ve added the models that we’ve heard will premier in Tokyo. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

Since we found out why by one of our readers in a comment he left on our 2008 Honda Jazz / Fit article, we thought it’d be only fair to post the comment as is:

"You know why they didn't call the Honda Jazz/Fit by its intended name?

Honda had originally planned to name the first-gen the Honda Fitta. Probably sounds ok to you? If you were in Scandinavia though that would be the same as calling the car “the Honda Pussy”!

That's why they chose to call it the Honda Jazz in Europe but modified the original name slightly to Honda Fit in the US (Honda deemed Fit to be too close to the original name in Scandinavia). Honda had even made the brochures and the slogan for the model when the name problem was discovered.

The slogan: “Small on the outside but big on the inside”. Just imagine the adverts for that car in Scandinavia: Honda Fitta (Pussy). Small on the outside but big on the inside!"

Nissan Reaches Out To Philippine Designers

Friday, September 21, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

Continuing the series of design forums held in different countries in Asia, Nissan inaugurated today the Philippine “Design Forum & Exhibition” which will be held at Esplanade1 in Manila. The forum is aimed at encouraging local students who want to pursue a career in automotive design, as well as to raise interest in car design by sharing behind the scene works of automotive design. -Continued after the jump

“The Nissan Design Forum in Philippines will include design presentations by Nissan’s designers, panel discussions between Nissan designers and local designers from various fields, clay modeling demonstrations by a modeler as well as interactive workshop sessions tailored for design students from local colleges. The workshops will provide an opportunity for students to show their concept sketches and receive feedback from Nissan’s designers.

An “Imagination Factory” exhibition will be held concurrently to showcase Nissan’s design philosophy and the creative development process involved in designing a car. The display will include quarter-scale models of concept cars and exploratory models. This exhibition will be opened to public from September 22-23 to provide visitors with the sense and feel of actually being in one of Nissan’s design studios.”

We intentionally skipped the Punto HGT with the normally aspirated 130Hp 1.8L engine, as we’d rather forget we ever drove it. This video includes still exterior and interior shots. Later on the day we'll add the driving video.

2008 Volvo V70 Gets In Police Uniform

Friday, September 21, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

True, if you’re a tourist in Sweden, you could easily take this Volvo as a “Harlequin” version of the V70 (remember the atrocious VW Golf Harlequin?). Then of course you’d probably find yourself in the arms of a 6.5’ ft tall blonde chump named Hans, so we advise to pay attention to this post if you’re planning a trip to Sweden.

Now that we’ve grabbed your attention (…), Volvo Special Vehicles unveiled the new V70 in "police uniform" for the Swedish police. According to the Swedes, the cop version of the V70 is considerably modified compared to the standard car with features such as a reinforced and specially adapted chassis, brakes and wheels, an enhanced electrical system and an ergonomic working environment for the police (cup holders, donut boxes, video-game players etc –just kidding). Continued after the jump

The Swedish police specified the V70 with Volvo's D5 diesel engine that delivers 185 hp. Next year will see the introduction of the new 200 hp 2.5 FT Flexi-fuel (E85) version. The first of the new Volvo V70 police cars will be delivered in January next year while later in 2008 Volvo's four-wheel-drive XC70 will also be produced in a police version.

Yesterday, we broke the story on the first official image of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (see here). Good news for Mazda dealers across Europe as the Japanese firm will enhance the European CX-7 line-up with the addition of a diesel version. More specifically, Mazda will offer its CX-7 Crossover form mid-2008 with the Ford / PSA Peuegot-Citroen jointly developed, 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that delivers 155 Hp. In Europe, the CX-7 has been launched initially with the Mazda6 MPS derived, 260 Hp turbocharged 2.3-litre petrol engine combined with a six-speed manual transmission. Due to the fact that most MPV’s and SUV’s are opted with diesel powtrains in Europe, it is expected the Mazda will probably more than double its initial CX-7 volume in 2008.

Citroen has handed out invitations to European press members for a sneak preview of the second-generation C5, which will take place in a month’s time on October 18. Instead, Citroen previewed the C5-Airscape concept study in Frankfurt, which is a 4seater convertible based on the upcoming C5. -Continued after the jump

As with all models of the European D-Segment (mid-size), the C5 II will be available in 5door (liftback) and Break (station-wagon) variants. 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt Sneak Peak?

According to Kia, the yet-to-be-named SUV (code named the ‘HM’), will be available in 2008 as a 2009 model in the U.S. We tried our best to optimize Kia’s shady official image with photoshop, but you can check the original image after the jump. What a time for car lovers; just as the 2007 Frankfurt Show takes its place in the history book of car shows, on the other side of the world, the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show is coming out of the dark gearing up for the grand opening on Oct. 26 (through Nov. 11). Today, the Tokyo Motor Show’s organizers started the countdown by announcing that the show will host a total of 520 vehicles, including 71 world premieres (37 pass. cars, 5 commercial vehicles, 26 motorcycles and 3 vehicle bodies) and 97 Japan premieres (71 pass. cars, 2 commercial vehicles and 24 motorcycles).

Here at Carscoop we’ve already began our Tokyo Show tour by revealing today, the 2008 Honda Fit / Jazz along with the first official image of the Subaru Impreza WRX STi. And of course, there’s more, a lot more to come. Stay tuned!

The Grande Punto Abarth “esseesse” kit or SS for short, was officially revealed at the IAA 2007 last week. Available exclusively from authorized Abarth dealers in early 2008, the sport kit includes a number of visual and mechanical enchantments. With the “esseesse” kit, the Abarth’s 1.4-litre turbocharged engine delivers 180 hp @ 5,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 272 Nm (201-lbs/ft) compared to the standard model’s 155 Hp and 206 Nm (152-lbs/ft) of torque. Combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the enhanced engine raises the Abarth’s top speed from 208 km/h (129 mph) 215 km/h (134 mph) while acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) drops from 8.2 sec to 7.7 sec. -Click “Read More…” below

Other mechanical modifications include the special suspension set up (both the front and rear suspension has been lowered by a further 20 mm compared to the Grande Punto Abarth), and the enhanced braking system (the front discs are perforated and fitted with high-performance pads).

Since being faster isn’t enough for most people, the “esseesse” pack also includes a very aggressive bodykit that adds new bumpers, side sills, large twin-exhaust pipes, a roof spoiler, plenty of stickers and 18-inch alloy wheels. For the moment at least, Abarth hasn't announced any accesories for the interior so we added the photos of the standard Grande Punto Abarth's cabin.

According to Fiat, the “esseesse” kit is reserved especially for the Grande Punto Abarth, and can only be installed at official Abarth dealers. The car can be converted at the time of sale, up to 1 year after purchase, or after 20,000 km on the road. Once the work has been done, the tuner will deal with the administration required to have the vehicle approved.

What A Bully: Smart Fortwo by Cobra

Thursday, September 20, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , , | Bookmark and Share

We have to admit that if we ever happened to own a Smart Fortwo, equipping it with a bullbar wouldn’t be among our first priorities. Getting rid of that retched semi-automatic gearbox that makes you look like you acquired your driving license a couple of hours ago, maybe, but bullbars, no way. And if a bullbar wasn’t enough already, Cobra also offers a set of rocker panel guards with a tube diameter of 48 mm (0.2-inches) and a rear bumper guard. Largest Gathering Of Honda S2000s Ever

On September 8, Honda US organized the “S2000 Homecoming” at the company’s Torrance, California, facility. Nearly 500 S2000 roadsters attended the event making it the largest gathering of S2000s to date. The 1,000 guests that took part had the chance to meet Shigeru Uehara, the chief engineer for the S2000 who flew from Japan to attend. S2000 enthusiasts also had an early viewing of the all-new S2000 CR before its scheduled on sale date in early October. -Continued after the jump

"It was very rewarding to see so many fans of the S2000 gathered together for this event," said Shigeru Uehara, chief engineer of the Honda S2000. "I was very happy to present the S2000 CR as my gift to enthusiasts in the United States."

"This is what owners have wanted for a while," said S2000 owner Mike Trinh, a Community Organizer of S2K International, a group of owners that meets regularly in Torrance and West Covina, California. 2009 Nissan 350Z Renderings

Thursday, September 20, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

One of Carscoop’s favorite sports cars, the Nissan 350Z, is heading for a serious overhaul in 2009. Up until now, we’ve only seen test mules based in the current Z that don’t reveal much anyway. But as usual, Japanese car magazines gather their artists and create renderings based on rumors or inside information that they’ve obtain from officials. We’ve no idea were these scanned images originated from but the artist did grab our attention with his proposition for the next-generation 350Z. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

And since we’re just speculating, here’s what we’ve heard about the 2009 350Z: Nissan will use a slightly modified version of the current Z platform that will feature wider tracks and a retuned suspension; power will come from an upgraded version of Nissan’s 3.5-liter V6 that will probably make over 330 Hp and finally, it’s expected that Nissan will revise the interior in terms of quality and design as it is without doubt, the 350Z’s biggest weak spot.

The first official pictures of the second generation Honda Fit (Jazz in Europe and other worldwide markets) slipped into the internet this morning. Details are scarce for the moment, but we can tell you that the 2008 Fit / Jazz is slightly bigger than the current model measuring at 3,900 mm in length (+55 mm or 2.2-inches) and 1,695 mm in width (+20 mm or 0.8-inches) while the wheelbase (2,500 mm) is increased by 50 mm or 2.0-inches. From earlier reports we also know that in Japan, the 2008 model will be offered with two engine units, a new 1.3L VTEC delivering 100 PS @ 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 13.2 kgm @ 4,500 (vs 86 PS and 12.1 kgm respectively for the current 1.3L iDSi engine) and a 1.5L VTEC with an output of 120 PS @ 6,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 14.9 kgm @ 4.800 rpm. -Continued: Click "Read More..." below

From what we can see in the pictures, the 2008 Fit / Jazz’s design features several details inside and out from the European Civic hatch. During Fiat Automobile's investor presentation in early September, Fiat’s outgoing CEO Luca De Meo (he’s now Chief Marketing Officer of the Fiat Group), gave out details on two very important future products of the Italian firm. We’ve obtain the whole presentation that includes various information, but we’ll concentrate on the page where Fiat reveals the B-Compact and the CX-Over. -Details and pictures after the jump

The B-Compact, which will most probably be called Uno after the Punto’s predecessor, is a budget model that will slot in range between the Panda and Grande Punto. Set to enter the market in 2009, the B-Compact will be offered in two body variants combining style and practicality with low consumption and running costs. With the B-Compact, Fiat will have 4 different models in the small car category: the A-Segment Panda and 500 and the B-Segment Uno (B-Compact) and the Grande Punto. And in our opinion, there’s nothing wrong with that as Fiat is at last concentrating on what it always did best; budget compact cars.

The second model that Luca De Meo gave details on is the CX-Over, a compact crossover that will go on sale in 2010. According to Fiat, the 4.5 metre long (177.2-inches) CX-Over will be “emotional like an SUV and practical like an MPV”. Available in both FWD and 4WD versions, the CX-Over will be priced between €22,000 and 30,000 (about $30,700 to 41,900) and it will compete with crossovers like the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qasqhai.

Moo... Pet MINI Covered In Cow Skin

Wednesday, September 19, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | , , | Bookmark and Share

Now here’s a MINI we’d call a real animal –literally, since the revamped British hatch has been covered from tip to toe with real cow skin. And all for the name of art and… marketing as the cow-skin MINI has been created by Bisazza, an Italian design company, with the official blessings from MINI Switzerland.

The car, which bears the nickname “Pet MINI”, will premiere at the in Zurich-Oerlicon's upcoming New Spaces exhibition, along with a Le Corbusier Chaise Longue that can be seen in the pics after the jump. According to MINI Switzerland’s Director of Communications, Claudine Hatebur de Calderón, the idea behind the Pet MINI was to create a piece of art that visitors would also like to touch and stroke. We hope they’ll stop at that –one never knows what to expect from people in these frantic times. PS: We've added the official French press release translated to English for apparent reasons –check it out and you’ll see -Click “Read More…” Below

French Press Release Translated

“The fart MINI” First world with the “neue räume 07” in Zurich.

For the first time, “MINI The fart” will be presented at the press and the public during the exposure “neue räume 07”. This single model could be admired in first world in market ABB 550 of Zurich-Oerlikon, with the Long Chair of Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand.

After having taken part in the “neue räume 05” with his Bisazza MINIS, MINI Schweiz creates the surprise with the Living room of the piece of furniture and the design of this year by presenting “MINI The fart”.

Whereas the Clubman MINIS cannot be exposed yet to this living room because of its date of launching on the market (10.11.2007), a very particular idea came to mind from Claudine Hatebur de Calderón, director of the communication of MINIS: “MINI The fart” - MINIS treated in extremely original objet d'art, with touching and cherishing. The MINIS and the Long Chair join together a style and an elegance of very high level and are appropriate thus remarkably for “new spaces 07” - pilot contemporary art of our time.

The idea which found its origin with the MINIS in exclusive costume carrying the mark of the Italian life style Bisazza develops now with the MINIS animal. Five noble skins of exceptional quality decorate “MINI The fart” and make of it a single design object. They are here skins of bulls and cows Norman, which do not present any grain.

For the work of saddlery, we could ensure us the collaboration of the company Mr. Pescha + Sohn AG, in Muttenz, workshop of automobile garnishing good known for its work of restoration of oldtimers.

The great challenge for this company consisted in accentuating the edges and contours of the MINIS, while combining in an ideal way the various nuances of the skins. To cover round surfaces, concave and convex of the body of the MINIS, the skins had to be softened and formatted during a whole night. It was thus possible to cover the elements like the back spoiler and the external rear view mirrors without resorting to any seam. The lines speak about themselves and, as for the Long Chair, one concentrates thus on essence.

2010 BMW V5: 5-Series Crossover-Hatch Scooped

Wednesday, September 19, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

While BMW officials completely rule out the possibility of creating a pure MPV, they aren’t so negative when talk comes to crossovers. It’s not that they dislike MPV’s but they find crossover’s more BMW material -hence the X6, a cross between an X5 and a coupe. Now Bavarians are looking to add another crossover in their line-up, one that combines DNA from a traditional station wagon with that of an MPV, an SUV and a hatch, or at least that’s what we’ve been told. The end result will be the V5, a practical, yet dynamic looking 5door model with a higher ground clearance than your avg. sedan. Frankenstein eat your heart out…

Toyota has withdrawn its all-new high-performance sports sedan Aurion TRD from the Australian market due to an engine failure of a dealer vehicle. The top version of the Camry based Aurion was developed by Toyota Racing Developments (TRD) and it’s equipped with a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine producing 329 Hp (details & pics here). According to Toyota Australia, the incident that sparked the suspension of sales stemmed from a single Aurion that had an issue in the hands of a dealer salesperson. ''The issue appears unrelated to the supercharger or the engine power output. At the moment, we believe this is a one-off issue”, commented Toyota Australia spokesman Mike Breen. -Continued: Click "Read More..." below

According to Breen, Toyota Australia has circulated about 150 Aurion TRD’s in dealerships or for marketing purposes. ''We expect it will take about two hours per car, and about one week to run through the process,'' Mr Breen says.

''A handful of cars have already gone out to customers, who we believe have no reason to be concerned. If they would like to speak to their Toyota dealer we encourage that and the dealer will take the appropriate steps.''

Toyota 2000GT & Mazda Miata; two of the most famous and iconic sports cars ever to be produced in the “Land of the rising sun”. However, that and the fact they share the same front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, is about all these two have in common. The 2000GT was a very expensive sports coupe produced in minuscule numbers -just 351 units between 1967 and 1970, while the Miata / MX-5 roadster is one of the best selling sports cars of all time with more than 800,000 units produced since 1989. -Continued : Click “Read More…” below

Still, that didn’t bother Mr. Makoto Kobayash who runs Road Star Garage in Aichi Japan to find a common ground between the two sports cars. Even if the 2000GT was never actually sold as a cabriolet, two coupes had been transformed into drop tops for the sake of the 1967 James Bond film, “You Only Live Twice”. And that's exactly what inspired the Japanese company into creating a 2000GT Cabriolet replica based on the Mazda Miata / MX5, which they call, Hiroshi.

Unfortunately, that's all we can tell you about the "Hiroshi" as all the details on the company's site are in Japanese and as many of you might know, we can’t tell the difference between sayonara and sushi. But feel free to check out the full image gallery below. An oh, don't forget to tell us what you think about the conversion.

The All-New 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser

The King Of Off-Road Delivers Quality, Durability, Reliability

September 18, 2007 - Torrance, CA - The all-new 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser sport utility vehicle (SUV), now in its seventh generation, continues to carry its incomparable reputation for quality, durability and reliability. This Land Cruiser, known as the 200 Series, adds significantly to the quality, dependability and reliability (QDR) equation by including new components, and more comfort, sophistication and value than ever before.

The Land Cruiser, with its incredible reliability and capability, is the iconic vehicle that helped Toyota gain its first foothold in the world automobile market. Over the years, it has evolved from a basic four-wheel-drive utility vehicle into an upscale vehicle with the capability of the original Land Cruiser and the comfort and convenience of a luxury sedan. This new Land Cruiser takes those values several steps further than ever before.

"The Land Cruiser asserts its position at the very top of the Toyota SUV lineup by building on our core heritage - durability, capability, fun-to-drive, and value," said Jim Lentz, executive vice president, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "For more than 50 years, the Land Cruiser has delivered on off-road capability and performance, and this generation will raise the ante for overall capability and comfort."

The Land Cruiser cements its reputation as the "King of Off-Road" with systems and features that also make it the "King of On-Road." An all-new engine and transmission delivers unparalleled power, efficiency and smoothness. The sophisticated Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) enhances the Land Cruiser's ride and off-road capability. The Land Cruiser also receives a new electro-mechanical system, CRAWL Control, which improves its excellent off-road capabilities and allows the driver to further concentrate on choosing a line without also having to manage momentum. A sophisticated new frame and suspension further help enhance Land Cruiser safety.

"As I began this task, I understood what Land Cruiser Chief Engineers have always understood: quality, durability and reliability are the priorities," said Land Cruiser executive chief engineer Hideki Watanabe. "The engineering team realized there could be no substitute for a Land Cruiser. This led us to believe we should further enhance the basic concepts that have made the Land Cruiser the iconic vehicle that it is. And so that's what we've done."

High-Strength Chassis and Suspension

To develop the next generation of the toughest, most desirable four-wheel-drive vehicle in the world, the Land Cruiser's engineers began with the frame. Rather than being tempted by a unitized body, the type used by some car-based four-wheel-drive vehicles, they elected to maintain a separate frame and body for the Land Cruiser 200 Series. Land Cruiser engineers determined that strengthening a unitized body, to stand up to the stress of rough roads and high-capacity towing, would increase the body's mass and weight as to completely negate the lightweight character usually gained by unitization.

Beginning with the current Land Cruiser frame structure and using advanced engineering methods and lightweight components, engineers developed an all-new frame structure that offers superior strength and rigidity while also enhancing towing capacity. Engineers worked on insulation and body-on-frame mounting bushings to reduce road noise, suppress vibration, and enhance on-road and off-road comfort.

The result is a high-strength, high-rigidity frame structure that uses lightweight, high-strength steel and deeper, wider frame longitudinals help to provide enhanced safety. The front of the frame adopts a three-stage crush structure so frame damage to other areas of the vehicle is minimized in the case of frontal impact.

Chassis and suspension components received as much thought and attention as the Land Cruiser's frame. It receives a new double-wishbone independent front suspension and four-link rear suspension with a solid live axle.

Up front, the Land Cruiser employs a high-mount double-wishbone system with tubular gas-pressure shock absorbers, a hollow stabilizer bar, and coil springs. The system was designed to suppress alignment change while the suspension travels through its stroke and maintains an optimal length of stroke. The purpose of this system is to achieve a high level of off-road driving performance and suspension control while maintaining a high level of on-road driving comfort.

At the rear, the reliable and trusted four-link, coil-spring with lateral rod format was redesigned to provide a longer suspension stroke for improved on-and off-road performance. The Land Cruiser's rear suspension also features tubular gas-pressure shock absorbers and a hollow stabilizer bar.

The brake system is enlarged and more powerful than ever, with 13.4-inch ventilated discs and four-piston calipers up front and 13.6-inch ventilated discs at the rear.

The Land Cruiser features power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering with a variable gear ratio that requires just 3.1 turns to go from lock-to-lock. Gear ratio is set larger around the steering center and smaller around the end position.

Enhancing this advanced suspension system is KDSS, a Toyota first, which provides a unique mixture of optimal on-road roll stiffness and off-road suspension compliance. This consists of a pair of hydraulic control cylinders that vary roll stiffness depending on suspension attitude.

Applying all this technology to the driving surface are P285/60 R18 mud-and-snow steel-belted radial tires mounted on 18 x 8.0-inch aluminum alloy wheels with a high-gloss finish. The Land Cruiser also features a full-size spare tire.

The Land Cruiser has a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,275 pounds, while it has a maximum payload of 1,585 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds. Approach and departure angles are 30 degrees and 20 degrees, respectively.

Engine, Transmission and Drivetrain

The Land Cruiser is powered by an all-new 5.7L (346 cid) DOHC V8 engine known as the 3UR-FE. The engine uses electronic fuel injection, Toyota Direct Ignition, four valves per cylinder and a variable-length intake tract to produce 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. The Land Cruiser uses regular 87-octane gasoline and has ULEV-II emissions status.

Features of this engine include Variable Valve Timing with intelligence
(VVT-i), Acoustic Controlled Induction System (ACIS), Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) and air injection. The engine also has aluminum block and heads and employs resin-coated pistons that reduce friction loss and a taper squish combustion chamber shaped to improve anti-knock performance and fuel efficiency.

Each camshaft on the intake side is chain-driven from the crankshaft and uses VVT-i. On the exhaust side, each camshaft is chain-driven, but from the intake camshaft. The exhaust cams also use VVT-i.

ACIS uses a bulkhead to divide the intake manifold into two stages. It alters the length of the tract in the intake manifold using engine speed and throttle valve opening to provide optimal performance in all RPM ranges. The engine's throttle body links to the Land Cruiser's accelerator pedal through ETCS-i to ensure optimal throttle control in all operating ranges.

Each of the four valves per cylinder is actuated by a rocker arm that rides on built-in needle bearings to reduce friction and improve fuel economy. To help control oil temperature while towing, this legendary off-road vehicle uses a water-cooled oil cooler. The Land Cruiser also features stainless-steel exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes.

This advanced powerplant is connected to Toyota's AB60F six-speed electronically controlled transmission. In this smooth-shifting transmission, fourth gear is direct drive, and both fifth and sixth gears are overdrive gears. Fifth drive offers an overdrive ratio of 0:728:1 while sixth has a ratio of 0.588:1. Delivering power to this transmission is a compact, high-capacity torque converter that offers flexible lock-up control for improved fuel economy.

The transmission uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) Shift Control, which allows the transmission's Electronic Control module to estimate road condition and predict the driver's intention to select the appropriate gear ratio for the vehicle's speed and the driving conditions.

This transmission also offers a sequential shift mode that allows the driver to select gears manually. In this mode, the transmission automatically selects first gear when the vehicle comes to a stop.

The Land Cruiser is the first Toyota vehicle to use a newly-developed JF2A transfer case to provide full-time four-wheel drive. This lightweight, compact, chain-driven unit offers a standard 1:1 high ratio for highway travel and a low-range 2.618:1 ratio for traversing challenging driving surfaces. The transfer case employs a Torsen limited-slip locking center differential. The locking function is actuated by a push-button switch. High and low ranges are selected with a rotary dial, located next to the HVAC and audio control panels. Indicator lights in the right-hand combination meter on the Land Cruiser's dash panel indicate when low range and/or center lock is selected.

The Land Cruiser's front SD22A differential uses a 3.909:1 gear ratio and a ring gear that is 8.7 inches in diameter. The rear BD24A differential uses precisely the same gear ratio and employs a 9.5-inch ring gear.

Drawing from a multi-layer composite 24.6-gallon fuel tank, the Land Cruiser has preliminary EPA fuel economy estimates of 13/18 mpg city/highway, based on calculations using the new EPA methodology for all 2008 and newer models.

Safety Systems

The Land Cruiser comes replete with a wide variety of systems designed to help maintain the safety and security of the vehicle's driver and passengers. Like all Toyota SUVS, the Land Cruiser comes standard with the STAR safety system. A new, four-wheel multi-terrain anti-lock braking system (ABS) automatically selects the optimal ABS profile to provide the most suitable brake force for on- and off-road driving surfaces. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) employs the multi-terrain ABS to properly balance braking forces between the front and rear brakes, while Brake Assist (BA) provides auxiliary force to assist the driver during emergency braking. Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) helps maintain traction during acceleration by controlling engine output and braking forces to the wheel, distributing the drive force that might have been lost to the wheels and tires have traction. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), with a cut-off switch, helps maintain directional control during cornering by manipulating engine torque and individual wheel-braking influence when it detects tire slippage.

In addition to the STAR safety features, the Land Cruiser also features Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), which provides additional control for off-road driving by helping to keep the vehicle stationary while starting on a steep incline or slippery surface.

The new Land Cruiser features 10 airbags, the most airbags found in any Toyota vehicle. These include driver and front passenger dual-stage advanced airbags; driver and front passenger knee airbags; front- and second-row seat-mounted side airbags; and three-row roll-sensing side curtain airbags with a roll-sensing cutoff switch.

To this arsenal of safety tools, the Land Cruiser adds various new standard features: CRAWL Control, a direct tire pressure monitor system (TPMS), intuitive parking assist and front active headrests.

With the transfer case shifted into low range, CRAWL controls engine speed and output, along with braking force, to propel the vehicle forward or in reverse at one of three low-speed settings. This allows the driver to maintain focus while steering over very rough level ground or steep grades, without having to also concentrate on the throttle or brake pedals. CRAWL Control includes Downhill Assist Control (DAC), which is designed to augment the low-speed ascending ability of low-range by holding the vehicle to a target speed with no driver intervention.

The direct-sensing TPMS receives air-pressure signals from all of the vehicle's tires, including the spare tire. When the pressure in one of the tires is below a preset threshold, the system turns on a light in the vehicle's instrument cluster to alert the driver. Intuitive parking assist, new for Land Cruiser, relies on ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers to sense obstacles.

All eight seating positions feature three-point seatbelts. The new Land Cruiser incorporates active headrests for the driver and front passenger. Active headrests move up and forward almost instantly in the event of certain rear-end collisions when the force of the occupant body is applied to the seat back and help reduce the distance between the occupant's head and the headrest. An available advanced seatbelt system is designed to retract the front seatbelts when the brakes are suddenly applied or when tire slippage is detected by the VSC system.

Body and Interior: Civilized Comfort for all Driving Conditions

Pursuing an "Advanced and Rugged" theme, engineers and designers enhanced and enlarged the front and rear fender overhangs. They also raised the height of the beltline just enough to exemplify an "advanced" image without compromising the vehicle's continuity of styling and driver and passenger visibility. The thick, rectangular grille and headlamps maintain Land Cruiser's steady and intelligent expression, while the hood flows gracefully into the grille and beltlines.

Character lines were given a new sweep and feel, especially in the front and in the area around the rear door handles, and the back door panels were styled to suggest strength. The result is a design that is at once fresh and new, yet very familiar because it closely suggests its ties to the Land Cruiser designs that have preceded it, making it instantly recognizable.

The body itself utilizes welded high-strength sheet steel, especially in the A-, B-, C- and D-pillars, and in the rocker area to reduce weight and increase rigidity. Engineers designed the B-pillar to help absorb side impacts and transfer them into the rest of the body structure where they can more safely dissipate. They also designed the hood to help absorb impact, especially at the front, to help minimize injury in the event of pedestrian impact.

The result of these subtle changes, in conjunction with other safety enhancements to the vehicle's frame and chassis, is a slight increase in the vehicle's overall length by 60 millimeters, or 2.3 inches, and in width, by 30 millimeters or 1.2 inches.

Engineers placed a foam substance inside the A-pillars to aid in the reduction of wind noise. A bifacial molding between the windshield and the body helps reduce aerodynamic turbulence, and thus noise. In addition, the cowl is carefully shaped to prevent wind from interfering with the windshield wipers.

Land Cruiser features special underbody panels behind the front bumper, extending under the engine and behind the rear wheels designed specifically to protect the engine and transmission and to help the vehicle traverse rocky terrain smoothly. In addition, these underbody panels smooth the airflow under the vehicle while minimizing drag and turbulence.

The interior is optimized for the comfort, security and safety of its driver and up to seven passengers – two in the front, and three each in the second and third rows of seating.

Engineers designed an all-new air conditioning system for the next-generation Land Cruiser and focused on two goals – developing a Toyota-first multi-zone system for maximum cooling and heating performance, and providing ultimate comfort and convenience for all passengers.

An ejector type cycle allows continuous operation of the optional cool box and the air conditioning system thereby eliminating the conventional switching operation. As a result, the air conditioning system and cool box are simultaneously supplied with refrigerant, enhancing performance.

For optimal heating performance, engineers equipped the Land Cruiser with an auxiliary positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heater. The PTC heater consists of a PTC element, aluminum fin, and brass plate. When current is applied to the PTC element, it generates heat that warms the air that passes through the unit.

Passengers will enjoy four-zone independent control with 28 air vents located throughout the cabin. First and second-row passengers have access to individual climate control, so that all passengers will be comfortable, even when only one side of the vehicle is exposed to the sun. Finally, the system also includes a micro-dust and pollen filter and a seven-level blower control.

The driver's primary focal point, the instrument panel, features a set of bright Optitron gauges with clear turquoise illumination. The gauge on the left contains a tachometer and an oil pressure gauge, along with the Land Cruiser's warning lights. The gauge on the right contains a speedometer and a voltmeter, along with function lights that signal the operation of, among other things, the Land Cruiser's four-wheel drive system and the state of inflation of the vehicle's tires. Between them are the temperature and fuel gauges, high-beam and fuel warning lights. Beneath these gauges is a multi-informational display that shows gear selection, odometer, tripmeter, fuel consumption, individual tire pressure for all five tires and cruising range. Directly to the right on the center dash element are the HVAC and entertainment controls. To the left of the HVAC controls are the push-button start, four-wheel-drive, VSC cut-off, and center locking differential switches.

The vehicle's center console features a gate-type shifter with sequential shift mode operation, the parking brake, a storage box with several compartments and a removable tray, universal mini-jack port and cupholders.

For convenience, the passenger-side second-row seat features a one-touch tumble mechanism for easier third-row ingress and egress. The second-row seats now slide forward and aft 4.1 inches for more passenger comfort and cargo storage versatility. The second row also employs an advanced child restraint system.

Convenience and Attention to Detail
The Land Cruiser features a number of thoughtful standard details. These include a JBL premium audio system with an in-dash six-CD/DVD changer and 14 speakers; Smart Key keyless entry; anti-theft security system; push-button start which allows the driver to unlock or start the vehicle by carrying the key on his person; engine immobilizer; cruise control; power moonroof; electrochomic rearview and side mirrors; HomeLink®; steering wheel-mounted audio, telephone,

All-New Mitsubishi Lancer Arrives In Australia With Active Stability Control Standard Across The Entire Range

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited has set the safety benchmark in the Australian small car segment with the launch of its all-new Lancer sedan.

Offering Active Stability Control and Traction Control (ASTC) as a standard feature across its entire model range, the all-new Lancer is in a prime position to shake-up the small car segment with its stylish design, nimble performance and industry leading safety standards at an affordable price point.

And the inclusion of ASTC across the model line-up is just the start of the all-new Lancer's groundbreaking safety story. In addition to the Active Stability Control and Traction Control, all Lancers feature an ABS braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist.

A total of seven airbags are available on all 2008 Mitsubishi Lancers - entry level ES models receive standard SRS driver and passenger airbags and driver knee airbag, with side and curtain airbags an affordable option. All other Lancer models - dubbed VR and VRX variants - receive the full seven-airbag pack as standard fitment.

Add to this Mitsubishi's acclaimed RISE body structure, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, five height adjustable headrests and the all-new Lancer presents the prime, affordable, safety-oriented choice in the Australian small car segment.

MMAL has revealed that, like the entire Mitsubishi range, the recommended retail pricing for the new vehicle will be sharp, very competitive and will start from just $20,990 for the ES model - and that includes the standard ASTC.

Launching the vehicle in Canberra this week, Robert McEniry, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited, confirmed the all-new Lancer's industry-leading specification levels and aggressive pricing structure was designed to make an impact on the Australian vehicle market.

"The inclusion of ASTC across the entire Lancer line-up, and the availability of seven airbags on each and every model is unprecedented, at this price point, in this segment," Mr McEniry said.

"The all-new Lancer now offers Australian consumers a small car jam-packed with every safety specification available to us, with great looks and performance - it's simply a winning combination."

The all-new Lancer is built on Mitsubishi's most ambitious automotive project ever - its first global platform. Already successfully previewed with the second generation Outlander, this new global platform represents a multi-million dollar investment for the company.

Conceived and developed at Mitsubishi Design in Europe, the all-new Lancer takes it design cues from the Concept-Sportback and Concept-X show cars exhibited at the 2005 Frankfurt and Tokyo shows respectively.

Its low stance, long hood and short deck proportions, wide track, trademark "Jet Fighter" grille and distinctively deep set "eyes", all bring a new meaning to the concept of sports sedans.

Dimensionally, the new-generation Lancer projects a tighter, more confident road-hugging stance. The vehicle is built on a longer wheelbase and wider track with a 60mm increase in both the front and rear track dimensions contributing to Lancer's solid, stable handling capability as well as its strong visual presence.

The increased dimensions of the vehicle's exterior have not been wasted - a combination of clever packaging and intuitive design has ensured these larger dimensions make a direct translation to the interior of the vehicle. The result is the all-new Lancer offers customers a well-appointed interior with a functional, uncluttered and spacious cabin.

Vibrant performance is guaranteed with an all-new 2.0-litre dual overhead cam MIVEC four-cylinder engine delivering 113kW of power @ 6000 rpm and 198 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm standard on all models.

Mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission or optional Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Sport Mode and INVECS III software, the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer delivers flexible, responsive and economical motoring. The sports oriented VRX model offers a unique paddle shift on the CVT transmission.

Driving dynamics are enhanced and ride and stability characteristics produce a sports oriented and satisfying driving experience for both driver and passenger. The 2008 Lancer ES and VR models, with their standard sixteen inch wheels (alloy on VR) and 205/60 R16 tyres, provide solid and stable driving performance that can help make even the most ordinary outing more enjoyable. The range-topping VRX variant adds a special sport-tuned suspension package and eighteen inch wheels with 215/45 R18 tyres.

The all-new Lancer ES and VR sedans not only tame curves, but do so with the confident stopping power of fifteen inch ventilated discs in front and fourteen inch solid discs in rear. The Lancer VRX models employ sixteen inch ventilated front disc brakes and sixteen inch solid rear discs.

Available in three well-appointed variants, the all-new Lancer model line-up delivers new levels of comfort and a host of standard features for the enjoyment of all occupants.

The entry-level ES variant offers all the safety and engineering features listed before for secure, relaxed driving and adds creature comforts deemed essential by today's savvy customers - three-way adjustable driver's seat, central locking, front and rear power windows, sixty/forty split fold rear seat, air-conditioning, FM/AM Tuner with CD and MP3 compatibility, cruise control with steering mounted controls, as well as storage spaces and cup holders galore. Optional side and curtain airbags are available on the ES model.

The mid-range VR model includes all these specifications and builds in even more features - side and curtain airbags, dusk sensing headlamps, rain sensing wipers, alloy wheels, front fog lamps, lip spoiler, leather wrapped steering wheel, six CD stacker with remote steering mounted controls and, for lovers of wide open spaces, an optional sunroof is available.

For drivers who like an energetic, flexible and dynamic on-road experience, there is only one choice - the range-topping VRX model. This variant of the all-new Lancer range takes the standard specifications of the VR model and adds sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, front air dam, rear spoiler, eighteen inch wheels, sport type front seats and fabric, unique panel and door trim, paddle shifts (CVT model only), Smart Key entry and Bluetooth hands-free phone with steering wheel controls. Options include the sunroof from the VR model as well as a barnstorming, optional Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio system with nine speakers.

All 2008 model Lancers are available in a wide-ranging palette of modern colours, including Effect Grey, Lightening Blue, Red, Black, Mystic Blue, Champagne, Cool Silver and White.

According to Robert McEniry, the knock-out specification levels of the all-new Lancer line-up are concrete evidence of the company's ongoing commitment to introducing new, safety-oriented, attractive and affordable vehicles to the Australian vehicle market.

"Everyone at Mitsubishi is committed to sourcing vehicles for this market that offer the best levels of occupant safety, security and comfort at the best possible price - and the all-new Lancer answers that call," Mr McEniry said.

"And this is just the start of the story. Within the next eighteen months, we will be introducing you to the rest of the Lancer family, including the new member of the iconic Evolution range, the Evo X, then two more Ralliart sports variants, and finally the stunning Lancer hatchback line-up."

The all-new Lancer line-up will be available at Mitsubishi dealers nationally from October 1st.

The HAMANN Porsche Cayenne “Cyclone”

  • · Extensive wide body aerodynamic component kit “Cyclone” designed by HAMANN
  • · HAMANN-Daytime running lights for better safety
  • · 22“ and 23“ alloy wheels ANNIVERSARY II and EDITION RACE available

The Porsche Cayenne enjoys great popularity with the customers. No wonder, since the noble SUV combines power and design. HAMANN MOTORSPORT in Laupheim offers various modifications for Porsche Cayenne to refine it and to make it more individual. The most obvious alteration is the shapely and mighty envelopment. Fitted with the HAMANN wide body-kit the Cayenne becomes the “Cyclone”!

A true HAMANN without aerodynamical conversion is inconceivable. Even more so, when the vehicle in question is a Power SUV like the Cayenne. Brandnew is the HAMANN wide body-kit, which make the Cayenne appear even more imposing. Fitted with this kit, the Cayenne may call itself „Cyclone“ .

The front view presents itself in an unmistakable optical characteristic. The specialists in Laupheim designed a front spoiler with two integrated LED-daytime running lights and fog lamps each. By offering the LED daytime running lights HAMANN makes a valuable safety contribution. Three high performance-LEDs and 250 reflectors lead to a better signal aspect. Their lucent white signal light is highly visible even at daytime and warns oncoming traffic fast and efficiently, which in case of emergency leads to better reaction time. Further advantage: LEDs beat normal H7-bulbs in terms of durability because they can be used 30 times longer. Additionally, they lead to less fuel consumption which is a result of their better energy-efficiency.

But even with switched off LED´s the „Cyclone“ is a flashily-dressed giant. The front and rear extended wheel arches give the Cayenne an absolutely powerful. The back also demonstrates individual power: roof spoiler and rear-facing panel with integrated diffuser and cut-out for the HAMANN 4-pipe sports competition silencer. The tail lights with four individual light fixtures are real eye-catchers.

Corresponding to the performance and in order to provide suitable optical characteristics, HAMANN offers a lowering system for all vehicles with pneumatic shock absorption. The vehicle is thus lowered in front and rear by approx. 35 millimetres. Of course, the vehicle thus reacts distinctly more accurately to the steering system and offers pure driving pleasure.
