Ferrari Testarossa Crashes Into Wall

Saturday, November 17, 2007 | 2 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

Usually, Ferrari owners manage to destroy their cars on a race track or on the highway, but not this one. According to eye-witnesses, the owner of the sexy Ferrari Testarossa was seen speeding on a central road in Colmenarejo, a town located north of Spain’s capital, Madrid. The Testarossa driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and ended up smashing into a brick wall.

We’re going to agree 100% with the description that our fellow Autobloger Chris Skunk gave in his article for the production version spy pics of the Hyundai Genesis V8 Sedan: a cross between a Lexus LS and a BMW 5-Series sedan. Look at the shape of the headlights and tail-lamps or the lines of the trunk for example. It’s as if Hyundai’s designers took the original Genesis prototype (click here) that was previewed at the New York Show last April and ingrained it with several doses of Lexus and BMW. -Continued after the jump

But on the other hand, when you take in consideration that the rear-wheel-drive Genesis Sedan will be equipped with a 300+ Hp V8 engine at a price starting well under $30,000 (approx. €20,500), we think that the imitative design will be the last thing that buyers will notice.

During the L.A. Auto Show, Dodge unveiled its 2008 Viper SRT10 ACR (American Club Racer). The street-legal racecar is equipped with the 2008 Viper’s 600 Hp V10 engine. According to the American carmaker, the ACR has undergone a diet while it also features sportier suspension settings and an aerodynamic package. Buyers can minimize the car's weight even more by opting for the "Hard Core" package, which eliminates the audio system, underhood silencer pad, trunk carpet and tire inflator. The SRT10 ACR is expected to rollout in the second quarter of 2008. -Video after the jump

What a sad sight; here’s what happened to one of the 1,000 Honda Civic Mugen Si’s that are set to go on sale in the U.S. Some @#$%^heads thought for whatever reason they had that they should vandalize the Mugen in a dealer lot. The thieves got away with whatever they could; seats, wheels, shift knob, badges and God knows what else. Porsche Carma Concept Study

Thursday, November 15, 2007 | 1 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

A bunch of design students came together and created this Porsche supercar concept dubbed Carma. The team of students that participated in the project are Germain Baillot, Pierre Fichet Delavault, Julie Dicks, Simon Menu, who are currently attending their fourth year at the French Design School ISD (Institute Supérieur de Design - Valenciennes, France).

The Carma was designed as an extreme sportscar which could also be suitable for every-day use. The designers support that particular attention was paid to the vehicle's aerodynamics, which resulted in a detailed study of the body and underbody surfaces in order to achieve the necessary downforce. Well, we like it and we wouldn't mind it at all if Porsche's designers took a look at the Carma. -More pics after the jump

NEW JAGUAR XF KEY POINTS –

  • Three trim levels will be offered in the U.S. market – Luxury, Premium Luxury and the 420hp Supercharged model.
  • The XF is a four door Jaguar that combines the style and performance of a sports car with the refinement, space and sophistication of a luxury sedan.
  • Class-leading torsional stiffness delivers refinement and dynamic performance – underpinning the driver-focused yet remarkably comfortable driving experience.
  • The XF will be available at launch in the U.S. with two different engines – 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 and 4.2-liter supercharged V8 – all featuring Jaguar's proven six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddles as standard in the XK sports car.
  • With its dramatic styling, powerful yet beautiful lines and a distinctive face, the XF is the first sedan to exemplify Jaguar's new design language.
  • Using only the finest materials, which are applied in a very contemporary way, the XF's interior is crafted to create a truly warm and bespoke environment
  • Challenging convention, the XF offers sophisticated instrumentation and intuitive technologies. Upon entry, the start button pulses, like a heartbeat. Start the engine and the JaguarDrive SelectorTM rises into the palm of the hand, while rotating vents turn from their flush, 'parked' position to their functional open position.
  • The coupe-like lines of the XF (which are similar to the XK's) belie the amount of space inside: there is room for five adults in comfort, generous interior stowage and a trunk capacity of 17.7 cu. ft., plus the opportunity to fold down the rear seats and add a further 14.8 cu. ft.
  • Key driver aids on the XF include Electronic Brake Assist, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Anti-lock Braking System, Dynamic Stability Control, Cornering Brake Control and Engine Drag Torque Control. And, for the first time in a Jaguar, Understeer Control Logic which decelerates the car and helps to restore grip to the front wheels when required.
  • Jaguar-exclusive Bowers & Wilkins 440-watt Surround Sound System is available on all three trim levels.
  • The first cars will be delivered to U.S. customers in March 2008.

Honda took the wraps off its innovative, yet butt ugly, FCX fuell-cell powered vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The production version of the FCX prototype, which was introduced two years ago, will be offered for lease to a limited number consumers in Southern California, U.S., with the first delivery taking place in the summer of 2008. Though full details of the lease programme will be set closer to launch, Honda did announce that current plans are for a three-year lease term with a price of $600 per month (approx €410), including maintenance and collision insurance.

Press Release - Dynamic styling and performance herald major advances for fuel cell vehicles; limited marketing to begin next summer

Honda today unveiled the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, announcing plans to begin limited retail marketing of the vehicle in summer 2008.

The FCX Clarity is a next-generation, zero-emission, hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle based on an entirely new Honda V Flow fuel cell platform, and powered by the highly compact, efficient and powerful Honda V Flow fuel cell stack. Featuring tremendous improvements to driving range, power, weight and efficiency – and boasting a low-slung, dynamic and sophisticated appearance, previously unachievable in a fuel cell vehicle – the FCX Clarity marks the significant progress Honda continues to make in advancing the real-world performance and appeal of the hydrogen-powered fuel cell car.

Honda plans to lease the FCX Clarity to a limited number of retail consumers in Southern California, U.S., with the first delivery taking place in summer 2008. Full details of the lease programme will be set closer to launch, but current plans are for a three-year lease term with a price of $600 per month (approx £290), including maintenance and collision insurance.

How the FCX Clarity got its name
Honda chose this name to express the idea that the company is creating a fuel cell vehicle that will offer a clear solution to the challenges of the future, helping society achieve sustainable mobility.

How the FCX Clarity works
The FCX Clarity utilises Honda’s V Flow stack in combination with a new compact and efficient lithium ion battery pack and a single hydrogen storage tank to power the vehicle’s electric drive motor. The fuel cell stack operates as the vehicle’s main power source. Hydrogen combines with atmospheric oxygen in the fuel cell stack, where energy from the reaction is converted into electric power used to propel the vehicle. Additional energy is also generated through the capture of kinetic energy from vehicle braking and deceleration (known as regenerative braking), which is stored along with surplus energy from the fuel cell in the lithium ion battery pack, and is used to supplement power from the fuel cell, when needed. The vehicle’s only emission is water.

Honda V Flow FC Stack
The V Flow FC Stack features an entirely new cell structure that achieves a higher output of 100kW, smaller size and lower weight, with a 50 per cent improvement in output density by volume, and a 67 per cent increase in output density by mass, compared to the previous Honda FC stack.

V Flow FC Stack (Vertical Gas Flow Cell Structure)
The new V Flow FC Stack introduces a cell structure in which hydrogen and air flow vertically, and gravity is used to facilitate more efficient drainage of the water by-product from the electrical generation layer. The result is greater stability in power generation. The new structure also allows flow channel depth to be reduced by 17 per cent – a major contributing factor in creating thinner cells and a more compact stack.

Wave Flow-channel Separators
The V Flow FC Stack incorporates wave flow-channels for the hydrogen and air, with horizontal coolant flow channels weaving between them. The wave flow channels provide greater flow length per channel than straight channels, while the resulting turbulent flow within the channel promotes improved hydrogen and air distribution. As a result, the hydrogen and air are spread over the entire electrode layer, making more efficient use of the compact electrical generation layer and achieving approximately 10 per cent higher generating performance than with straight flow channels. The horizontal coolant flow also ensures more even cooling over the entire electrical generation layer, allowing for a reduction in the number of cooling layers to half that of previous stacks. While the previous stack had one cooling layer for each cell, the new stack needs only one cooling layer per two cells. This results in a 20 per cent reduction in stack length and a 30 per cent weight reduction, which is a major breakthrough in compact, lightweight stack design.

Improved startup capability at low temperatures
Improved water drainage due to the V Flow cell structure facilitates better output immediately after startup. The reduced coolant volume and single-box design made possible by the wave flow-channel separators result in heat mass 40 per cent lower than previous stacks. As a result, startup is now possible at temperatures as low as -30° C.

Honda V Flow fuel cell platform
The FCX Clarity’s revolutionary new V Flow platform packages the ultra-compact, lightweight and powerful Honda V Flow fuel cell stack – 65 per cent smaller than the previous Honda fuel cell stack unit – in the vehicle’s centre tunnel, between the two front seats. The compact size of the new V Flow FC Stack allows for a more spacious interior and more efficient packaging of other powertrain components, which would otherwise be unattainable in a sleek, low-slung sedan.

The FCX Clarity boasts numerous other significant advances in the performance and packaging of Honda fuel cell technology, compared to the current-generation FCX. These include:

  • a 20 per cent increase in fuel economy (about 2-3 times the fuel economy of a petrol-powered car, and 1.5 times that of a petrol-electric hybrid vehicle, of comparable size and performance);
  • a 30 per cent increase in vehicle range – to 270 miles (approximately 430 km);
  • a 120 per cent improvement in power-to-weight ratio, in part due to around a 400-pound (approximately 180kg) reduction in the fuel cell powertrain weight, despite a substantial increase in overall vehicle size;
  • a 45 per cent reduction in the size of the fuel cell powertrain – nearly equivalent, in terms of volume, to a modern petrol-electric hybrid powertrain;
  • an advanced new lithium-ion battery pack that is 40 per cent lighter and 50 per cent smaller than the current-generation FCX’s ultracapacitor;
  • a single 5,000-psi hydrogen storage tank with 10 per cent additional hydrogen capacity than the previous model.

FCX Clarity design
More than just a fuel cell vehicle – the FCX Clarity portrays Honda’s vision of the future of car design and performance, freed from the constraints of conventional powertrain technologies. The FCX Clarity’s four-door sedan platform features a short-nose body and spacious cabin with comfortable accommodation for four people and their luggage. Major powertrain components – including the electric motor, fuel cell stack, battery pack and hydrogen tank – have been made more compact and are distributed throughout the vehicle to further optimise space, comfort and total vehicle performance.

Advanced materials and components
In keeping with its theme as an environmentally-advanced automobile, the FCX Clarity features seat upholstery and door linings made from Honda Bio-Fabric – a newly-developed, plant-based material that offers CO2 reductions as an alternative to traditional interior materials, along with outstanding durability and resistance to wear, stretching, and damage from sunlight.

Designed to appeal to forward-thinking customers seeking the ultimate in zero-emissions, alternative-fuel vehicle performance, the FCX Clarity is also equipped with a full complement of advanced safety, comfort and convenience features. These features consist of a state-of-the-art navigation system with hydrogen station locations, a rear view camera, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS), a premium sound system, climate controlled seats and Bluetooth™ connectivity.

Other improvements, such as shift-by-wire, electric power steering (EPS), and a newly designed instrument panel with easy-to-read display of hydrogen fuel consumption, further improve its customer appeal and ease of operation.

CO2 emissions
The FCX Clarity’s only emission is water. CO2 emissions related to the production of hydrogen vary by source; however, well-to-wheel CO2 emissions using hydrogen reformed from natural gas – the most widely used method of production today – are less than half that of a conventional petrol vehicle. With the production of hydrogen from water by electrolysis, CO2 emissions can be further reduced and ultimately approach zero if the electricity is generated from sustainable sources, such as solar, wind, hydro and wave power.

In the area of solar technology, Honda has developed its own solar cells, with half the CO2 emissions in the production stage compared to conventional crystalline silicon cells; and has begun mass-production and retail sales of this technology in Japan for both commercial and residential use. These panels are also used to generate electricity for the Torrance R&D refueling station in California.

Fuel cell leadership
For 40 years, Honda has worked hard to reduce the environmental impact of the car, including efforts to reduce emissions, boost fuel efficiency and, now, many industry-leading efforts to advance the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle – a technology and fuel that Honda believes may hold the ultimate promise for a clean and sustainable transportation future. Honda’s pioneering achievements in this area include the first U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) certification of a fuel cell vehicle (2002); the first lease of a fuel cell vehicle (2002); the first fuel cell vehicle to receive an EPA fuel economy rating (2002); the first cold-weather customer (2004); the first and still only individual retail customers (2005, 2007); and the first and still only fuel cell vehicle to be eligible for a U.S. federal tax credit.

We don’t know how they say “f@$#k!!!” in Romania, but we’re pretty sure that the guy driving this Hyundai Santa Fe that fell in a big pit hole near the centre of Bucharest, the capital of Romania, had plenty of sexual orientated adjectives in store for authorities. As our friend Mircea pointed out, the best part of the incident is the billboard next to the Santa Fe that reads "Renault - the only automaker in the world with eight models that have achieved a 5-star-rating in Euro NCAP”. -More images after the jump

NEW 2009 CHEVROLET AVEO5 IS A SMALL CAR WITH LARGE-CAR ROOMINESS, AMENITIES AND GREAT FUEL ECONOMY

LOS ANGELES – Proving that fuel solutions can be wrapped in bold, fun packages, Chevrolet unveiled the 2009 Aveo5 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The redesigned challenger to the economy segment delivers exceptional, EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway (with the standard five-speed manual transmission) – and is expected to be the lowest-priced car in America when it goes on sale in 2008.

“Chevrolet is committed to fuel solutions of all types, and the new Aveo5 demonstrates that gasoline remains viable in a highly efficient, affordable package,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “It is a terrific value, with a worry-free ownership experience that has the lowest ownership cost of any vehicle on the market, yet it packs all of Chevy’s fun-to-drive spirit.”

The new ’09 Aveo5 reaffirms the brand’s value position and builds on it with features expected in larger, more expensive cars – such as standard OnStar and available XM Satellite Radio – as well as its signature “tall car” design that enables surprising passenger and cargo room. It is powered by a new, fuel-sipping, 1.6L DOHC engine with variable valve timing that produces more power (107 hp / 80 kW) and strong torque (106-lb.-ft. / 143 Nm) – and has been tuned for quieter performance.

“Customers will be surprised by the ‘big’ features of the Aveo5 – big room, big style, big refinement and, of course, big fuel economy,” said Peper. “It is a flexible car that provides untold capabilities, with cargo features and flexibility that change as your needs change.”

Indeed, the Aveo5’s efficiency and flexibility go hand in hand. With its improved fuel economy among the best on the market using regular gasoline, the ’09 Aveo5 can travel more than 400 miles (643 km) between fill-ups, resulting in fewer trips to the gas station and road trips that require fewer stops.

The Aveo5 goes on sale in mid-2008, joining the recently redesigned Aveo sedan. It is available in base, LS and LT trims – each backed by a “worry free” five-year/100,000-mile transferable powertrain warranty, plus Roadside Assistance and Courtesy Transportation.

Bold, tall-car design

The Aveo5’s dynamic, contemporary styling represents the global face of Chevrolet design. Redesigned, body-color fascias and chrome accents suggest a more expensive car, along with available features – such as its large power sunroof – that are unexpected in the segment, Aveo5 retains its characteristic “tall car” configuration, enabling a spacious interior, with generous headroom that is greater than many midsize sedans.

The front of the new Aveo5 features the bold, chrome-finished grille – with prominent gold Chevy bowtie – that is characteristic of all new members of the Chevrolet family, such as the Malibu. It is complemented with features that reinforce Aveo5’s premium appearance, including new and distinctive chrome-finished side vents on the front fenders and jeweled-appearance headlamps.

The Aveo5’s sleek styling accents longer, wider and taller dimensions, with sculpted lines and a wide, confident stance. Pronounced “shoulders” over the wheel openings and body-color door sills convey the look of a larger car. A more assertive, dynamic look is accomplished with crisp, V-shaped hood edges, bold front and rear fascias with premium cues, such as larger, available front fog lamps; a rear-fascia lower grille; and a larger available rear spoiler located on the trailing edge of the roof.

Ten exterior colors are available. They include: Summit White, Black Granite Metallic, Sport Red, Victory Red, Blue Moon, Bright Blue, Tahiti Green, Cosmic Silver, Medium Gray and Summer Yellow.

Roomy environment

The Aveo5’s exterior is complemented by a quiet passenger cabin that features well-crafted details and generous standard features that enhance comfort. It is one of the most spacious vehicles in its class, with features and refinement comparable to more expensive vehicles.

With its signature “tall car” design, the Aveo5’s generous dimensions easily accommodate 6-foot-tall passengers in each of the five seating positions. It also is a quiet interior environment, with soundproofing technologies that complement quieting powertrain enhancements and improved aerodynamics to provide a quiet, comfortable and vibration-free ride, even at higher speed.

Attention to comfort is evidenced in elements such as standard driver’s seat armrests. Also, theater-style rear seating provides a commanding view for all passengers. A 60/40-split rear seat expands Aveo5’s interior cargo capacity; and when more cargo-carrying capability is required, the rear seat can be flipped and folded, offering 42 cu. ft. (1,189 L) of cargo space.

Refined, well-appointed interior

The interior’s contemporary appearance is achieved through sleek lines and the clever use of rich materials, including a new, available two-tone, charcoal/light gray design (on charcoal interiors) that provides a premium look and feel. Other premium appearance elements include technical-grain, low-gloss surfaces; wood grain, satin-chrome or carbon-fiber finishes on the instrument panel and door panels; and even perforated faux leather seating surfaces, steering wheel cover and shifter knob.

Additionally, clever details abound, such as a sunglasses holder; door pockets for books and maps; and hooks that can secure shopping bags. Unexpected value is delivered through more standard and available features – features not typically found in the segment, including:

  • Fully reclining front seats with convenience hooks
  • Six-way-adjustable seats – plus driver lumbar adjustment
  • Tilting steering wheel
  • Driver information center

Ride and handling

The Aveo5 was developed for a dynamic, well-planted driving experience and fuel efficiency. It has a wide stance and long wheelbase (97.7 inches / 2,480 mm) to deliver a smooth, confident ride. A MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension (with gas-charged shocks) deliver refined ride and handling characteristics.

Power-assisted, variable-rate rack-and-pinion steering is standard, with the steering gear is mounted on the front suspension cross member for precise action and stability. Fourteen-inch wheels are standard, but sporty 15-inch alloy wheels are available.

As a global car, the Aveo5 was tested and validated for a broad range of driving and road conditions. The suspension system is inspired by the driving experiences of European sports sedans yet tuned for contemporary American driving tastes – a combination that delivers both smoothness and a responsive, spirited driving experience.

Powertrains

Supporting Aveo5’s responsive and economical driving experience is a new, Ecotec 1.6L DOHC four-cylinder powertrain. The sophisticated engine uses Dual Continuous Variable Cam Phasing – two continuously adjustable camshafts – to optimize the charge cycle for fuel economy and performance. As a result, this 16-valve DOHC engine delivers more horsepower than the previous engine, with ratings of 107 horsepower (80 kw)* and 106 lb.-ft. of torque (143 Nm)*, and nearly 8-percent improved fuel efficiency when compared to the previous Aveo5 model.

The new, 1.6L engine features additional technology highlights to improve fuel economy, quality, reliability and durability, including:

  • New four-in-one sheet metal exhaust manifold, with integrated catalytic converter and secondary underfloor catalytic converter
  • Engine oil cooler and piston oil squirters

  • Electronically controlled thermostat
  • Oil Life Monitoring System

Additionally, the engine is tuned for quieter performance, with a more pleasing sound during acceleration.

A smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission is standard and an Aisin four-speed automatic with Hold Control Mode is available. Hold Control Mode is a special feature that helps reduce wheel spin and traction loss on slick roads by allowing the driver to select and hold a higher gear, thus reducing torque.

Safety features

A comprehensive system of safety and security technologies is designed to meet safety standards of markets around the globe. The Aveo5’s safety starts with a high-strength steel structure that creates a safety cage around the passenger compartment. The structure features strength-enhancing, tailor-welded blanks that help avoid protrusions into the passenger compartment.

The Aveo5 also comes standard with advanced dual-stage frontal air bags and the GM Passenger Sensing System, as well as standard h ead/thorax seat-mounted side air bags for front passengers. The head/thorax seat-mounted side air bags deploy during side impacts and are triggered by a sophisticated sensor system in the front doors.

The brake system on the Aveo5 is available with a four-channel ABS system. The four-sensor system – one at each wheel – incorporates electronic brake force distribution, which balances braking performance based on road conditions the weight of passengers and/or cargo.

PRESS RELEASE

All New 2009 Nissan GT-R Comes To North America – Multi-Dimensional Supercar Available in June 2008

The all-new 2009 Nissan GT-R, the fifth-generation of the legendary Nissan supercar, makes its North American debut at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, following its worldwide debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2007. No longer the unobtainable object of desire on a video game or in the movies, the GT-R will be available on sale for the first time in North American in June 2008.

GT-R is a multi-dimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of “the ultimate supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere” and achieved a lap time of 7:38 around the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife, one of the fastest times achieved by a production-spec vehicle to date.

Packaging and Driveline Suited for a Supercar

The new Nissan GT-R is built on an exclusive all-new Premium Midship platform. This new platform enables the use of a world’s first independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system, which optimizes weight distribution and handling capability. This layout places the transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle, without the use of traditional torque tubes, allowing the suspension to operate independently and optimizing tire grip at each corner.

Under the hood, the Nissan GT-R features an all-new hand-built VR series 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 producing 480 horsepower @ 6,400 rpm and 430 lb-ft of torque @ 3,200 to 5,200 rpm, while meeting ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) standards.

The all-new VR38 engine, named VR38DETT, features innovative plasma-sprayed bores replacing cast iron liners for reduced friction, lighter weight, enhanced cooling, power output and fuel efficiency; a symmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system featuring twin high-performance IHI turbochargers; a secondary air management system for improved cold-start emissions performance; a thermostatically controlled oil-cooling system; an oil scavenger pump to maintain oil flowing to the turbochargers; and a lateral wet and dry sump oiling system. All GT-R engines are hand-built in a clean room environment at the Nissan Yokohama engine plant.

The VR38DETT is backed by an all-new, paddle-shifted GR6 sequential 6-speed dual clutch rear transaxle, which can be driver selected to shift at race car-like speeds . The sequential-shifting transaxle features separate wet clutches for the odd (1,3,5) and even (2,4,6) gears and pre-selects the next highest and next lowest gear for immediate shifts. It also features Hill Start Assist for easy starts on uphill inclines.

Contributing to overall vehicle balance and low center of gravity, the unique offset input and reaction shaft design of the GR6 rear transaxle enables a shorter design profile versus a typical manual transmission, moving the concentration of powertrain weight lower in the vehicle.

Putting the power to the ground is an electronically-controlled ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system specifically developed for GT-R. The rear drive-biased system can vary torque split from 0:100 to 50:50 depending on speed, lateral acceleration, steering angles, tire slip, road surface and yaw rate. Of note is a special GT-R-specific yaw-rate feedback control, which measures the differences between the target yaw rate calculated from steering angle and actual yaw rate detected by the yaw-rate sensor and G sensor to adjust torque bias.

Handling duties are managed by a sophisticated 4-wheel independent suspension system mounted to high-precision six-point front and rear subframes.

A special Bilstein DampTronic driver adjustable shock absorber system utilizes multiple vehicle information systems to provide appropriate damping forces and high level of control for a variety of driving situations. The DampTronic system features three driver selectable settings - Normal ; Comfort, for maximum suspension compliance; or “R,” for ultimate handling. The same three-stage adjustability is available for the VDC system and transmission shift operation, which also includes a Snow mode.

Stopping power is provided by Brembo mono block six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers with large 15-inch Brembo full-floating cross-drilled two-piece rotors and low-steel high-stiffness brake pads which minimize fade and provide intense stopping performance. The calipers utilize race car-style radial mounting to minimize caliper flex during extreme braking.

GT-R-specific lightweight forged 20-inch wheels, with special knurling to assist with securing the tires during hard acceleration or braking, are shod with nitrogen-filled Bridgestone high-performance summer run-flat tires specifically designed for the GT-R, sized 255/40ZRF20 front and 285/35ZRF20 rear. High-performance Dunlop all-season tires are also available.

GT-R’s Signature Functional Design – High Performance Aerodynamics and Style

The Nissan GT-R’s styling follows the “function over form” theory. Every styling aspect, from the overall design to the smallest details, is created to maximize the vehicle’s driving experience – as well as suggest GT-R’s “supercar” level of performance. Utilizing advanced aerodynamics, GT-R’s aggressive styling evokes the lines of a well-trained athlete, combining strong character lines with smooth and solid areas.

The all-new GT-R’s hybrid body construction is created with a combination of steel, carbon fiber and die-cast aluminum, providing a unique combination of stiffness, precision and lightness. The body features a low coefficient of drag of 0.27 while achieving high front and rear downforce, providing stability and handling performance in a wide range of driving conditions.

GT-R’s front fenders express power and stability, while the “aero-blades” on the fenders’ leading edges provide optimum airflow around the tires and along the body. The vents in the fenders’ trailing edges assists in providing front downforce and optimizing side air flow. The aggressive front end, with a large hood budge and single central air intake, provides a sophisticated style as well as undisturbed air flow for power and cooling.

New “super wide beam” headlights feature three additional sub-reflectors (compared to conventional lights) to give a wide illumination spread.

The Nissan GT-R’s four-passenger cabin features a sloping “aero blade canopy” roofline and curved C-pillar “sword edge,” which expresses the distinctive GT-R identity, as well as facilitating air flow around the rear of the vehicle. The signature rear view of the GT-R is provided by its hallmark four-ring taillights, while air flow above and below the vehicle is managed by the functional rear carbon fiber underbody diffuser, rear spoiler and large, integrated quad exhaust tips.

GT-R’s advanced technology is present even in the vehicle’s paint, which utilizes a durable anti-chip paint and “double clear coat” process. A special seven-coat silver paint color is available, which is baked five times and is also hand-polished by craftsman.

An Interior Suitable for Daily Driving or Supercar Duties

Key to the Nissan GT-R’s usability as a both daily driver and a high-performance machine is its interior, which is designed to balance functionality and comfort. It provides comfortable four-passenger seating and trunk capacity of two golf bags or suitcases.

Sculpted performance bucket seats give the driver and passenger a comfortable driving experience, and soft pads are utilized on the dash in front of the passenger and both doors to give an extra level of comfort. The rear transaxle layout of GT-R, with a flat floor and narrow center tunnel, allows GT-R to have an optimal driving position.

A cockpit-style instrument panel surrounds the driver, with all meters and multi-function meter at a uniform height to minimize the driver’s head movement. A large center-mounted tachometer, with gear display on its upper right, as well as the easy-to-read graphics of the display, gives the driver instant detailed information, essential for the performance nature of the GT-R.

Functional style is also evident in GT-R’s interior – each meter features a dial plate design that evokes the idea of engaged gears, as well as a three-dimensional metal-like ring, suggesting the multi-dimensional performance of GT-R. A large, metallic-framed center console features an ergonomically designed shift lever and a red “engine start” button.

The centerpiece of the instrument panel is a video game-inspired multi-function display. Eleven pages of information are available on this system, including mechanical and driving information, acceleration, brake pedal pressure, steering angle and a recording function with playback. Additional on-screen information includes a Navigation system, enhanced entertainment system with a Music Box Hard Drive and a Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System.

An available s pecially-designed 11-speaker Bose® audio system features two forward-facing woofers in the rear center armrest area. Rigid aluminum die cast panel-mounting of all speakers allowed Bose engineers to perfect the acoustical performance of the GT-R sound system.

High-Performance Safety Technologies

The Nissan GT-R offers a long list of safety features, including, for enhanced visibility inside and out of the vehicle, high-mounted LED stoplights, bright LED rear combination taillights, “super wide beam” headlights, heated door mirrors and flat-blade windshield wipers.

Standard safety equipment includes a Nissan Advanced Air Bag System for driver and front passenger, front seat belts with pretensioner and load limiters and tension reducers, and three-point ELR/ALR rear seat belts. Driver and front passenger SRS Side Air Bag System and SRS Curtain Air Bag System are also available.

Before we get to the details, get a load of what John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning of Hyundai US had to say about the Genesis Coupe: “When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse.” You can’t get more bullish than that.

So let’s see what the Genesis Coupe concept is all about. First of all, it previews the production version of Hyundai’s all-new rear-wheel drive 2 + 2 sports coupe that’s will be introduced in the U.S. in spring 2009. According to Hyundai, the coupe will be offered with a 3.8-liter V6 engine producing more than 300 Hp. Equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, the 4,666 mm / 183.7 in. long 2+2 coupe will sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under 6 sec. Hyundai unveils rear-wheel Drive Concept Genesis Coupe

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2007 – Hyundai unveiled its highly anticipated Concept Genesis Coupe during a press conference at the Los Angeles International Auto Show today. The concept car heralds the introduction of an all-new, rear-wheel drive 2 + 2 sports coupe scheduled to join the Hyundai lineup in the spring of 2009. Following the introduction earlier this year of the Concept Genesis sedan, Concept Genesis Coupe signals Hyundai’s second step in broadening its appeal to driving enthusiasts.

The Sonic Orange concept is complemented by a Ballistic Black carbon fiber hood, roof and ground effects for reduced weight. Strong hints of the production version are highlighted in its “Z” bodylines and powerful curves. When the production sports coupe arrives, it likely will be the most affordable 300+ horsepower car on the market, and the most dynamic performance car yet from Hyundai.

“Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet,” said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. “When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse.”

DESIGN PROCESS

“The mission for Concept Genesis Coupe was to create a pure performance car with a design that would capture the imagination of hardcore automotive enthusiasts,” said Joel Piaskowski, chief designer at the Hyundai Design Center in Irvine, Calif. “With its aggressive look from just about any angle, I think we have been able to do that.”

The powerful curves, surface detail and “Z” bodyside lines come straight from the same underlying inspiration that guided two earlier, well-received concepts: the HCD9 Talus and the HCD8 sports tourer. The undulating beltline borrowed from the Talus adds intrigue while enhancing outward visibility for both the driver and rear passengers. The HCD8 sports tourer’s sensual body forms influenced the overall design theme while also providing direction for the concept’s assertive headlight and taillight designs.

The look of Concept Genesis Coupe was in part inspired by LeMan’s race cars, drifters and by Jada Toys Dub City™ die cast vehicles. The front and rear stance of the Concept Genesis Coupe can be described as sinister.

“Beauty and danger co-exist in the design of the Concept Genesis Coupe,” said Eric Stoddard, senior creative designer. “When viewed from a distance, the car is beautiful to look at. But up close it can appear a bit menacing and even a little intimidating.”

The concept’s rocker panels are drawn close to the ground making the bodysides extra thick and the daylight opening extremely thin, allowing the wheels to be slammed up into bulging fenders. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized.

Three large heat extractors sculpted into the hood are designed to cool just about any powerful engine. When the concept becomes reality, three large openings in the front fascia will allow for better engine breathing. The dual exhaust tips integrated into the rear fascia repeat the design theme of the front cooling ducts and are surrounded by a large carbon fiber air diffuser.

An arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car's broad shoulders and wide stance. Concept Genesis Coupe rides on 20-inch polished aluminum deep-dish wheels with Hankook 255/35 ZR front tires and 275/35 ZR rear tires.

November 14, 2007 - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A, Inc., unveiled the second-generation Sequoia full-size sport utility vehicle at a press conference today at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. Sequoia is completely new for 2008, with a new body, a new interior, a new chassis, an available new 5.7L V8 engine/six-speed transmission combination and an increased focus on efficiency, performance and driver/passenger comfort.

Since the Sequoia was introduced in 2000, the world has changed. With both gasoline prices and environmental concerns on the rise, Toyota's engineers and designers have taken steps to increase not just the 2008 Sequoia's performance and comfort, but also its efficiency and environmental awareness.

To that end, the Sequoia is equipped with an available powerful new 5.7L V8 engine that generates excellent fuel efficiency and very low emissions.

An all-new platform now provides exterior dimensions that are competitive with other vehicles in the Sequoia's class. Inside, highly efficient packaging gives the new Sequoia a very roomy cabin and a capacious luggage space.

In his efforts to be sure he got the 2008 Sequoia right, Chief Engineer Motoharu Araya immersed himself in American culture for two-and-a-half years as he began his design brief for the Sequoia. He even went so far as to live for a time with an American family that owned a fullsize SUV so that he could better understand the way SUV users relate to their vehicles. He also used the Internet to circulate a questionnaire so that he could acquire detailed information about how Americans use their SUVs and what their preferences are, right down to the side of the vehicle on which drivers prefer their fuel fillers to be located. The result is a class-leading vehicle with the efficiency, performance, comfort and convenience that SUV buyers want.

Engines and Transmissions
An available new DOHC 5.7L V8 engine enables the 2008 Sequoia to provide acceleration performance that is among the leaders in its class, especially while towing. Sequoia engineers developed the new engine to produce 381 hp, one of the highest outputs in this vehicle class. This engine, which is ULEV-II compliant, uses four valves per cylinder and Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to produce 401 lb-ft of torque.

Dual VVT-i continually alters the phase of each camshaft by operating the oil-control valve and controlling oil pressure on the advance/retard chamber of the VVT-i cam pulley through signals from the engine control computer. It produces optimized valve timing, contributing to higher output and increased efficiency.

Compact pentroof combustion chambers and high-strength pistons that are resin-coated to reduce friction, low-tension piston rings and a low-friction valve train that uses roller rocker arms also are important features of this engine, as is an Acoustic Control Induction System that changes the length of the intake manifold runners based on engine speed and throttle opening. The exhaust system, constructed of stainless steel, uses a valve in the main muffler to alter exhaust flow, reduce exhaust noise and improve performance. It also employs four catalytic converters – two for cold starts and two main.

As a result, the 2008 Sequoia provides the acceleration desired by users and an available towing capacity of 10,000 lbs. In addition to the available 5.7L V8 engine, the 4.7L iForce V8 continues to be offered as standard.

A smooth-shifting electronically controlled five-speed automatic ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) is mated to the standard 4.7L V8, while a new six-speed ECT automatic is part of the powertrain package when the available 5.7L V8 is selected.

This transmission benefits from hydraulic pressures that are very carefully controlled for smoother shifts, and from highly accurate gear-tooth surfaces that help ensure low noise levels. A Tow/Haul mode that extends use of the lower gear ratios also is part of this transmission's package.

Both transmissions are controlled by floor-mounted shifters and are equipped with torque converters that use Toyota's flexible lock-up control for enhanced fuel efficiency, and both transmissions can be shifted sequentially.

Additionally, the six-speed transmission's torque converter will lock up in fourth and fifth gear, as well as in sixth gear.

On four-wheel-drive models, a two-speed transfer case that contains a lockable Torsen limited-slip differential is used to transmit power to both the front and rear wheels. Interestingly, this transfer case, with its 1:1 high-range gear ratio and its 2.618:1 low-range gear ratio, uses a durable six-gear planetary ring instead of the more usual four-gear ring. The transfer case is shifted electronically via a rotary knob within easy reach of the driver, and it locks with the push of a button. High-capacity universal joints are used in the drive line to accommodate the available power of the engines.

The front and rear differentials are larger for added strength and measure 8.7 inches in diameter (front) and 10.0 inches (rear). The standard differential ratio is 3.909:1, with an optional 4.3:1 ratio available as part of Sequoia's towing package.

Chassis and Suspension
To improve ride comfort and overall vehicle dynamics, the 2008 Sequoia was given an all-new platform that features independent suspension at both front and rear. This new suspension not only provides unparalleled ride, handling and straight-line stability, but it also equips Sequoia with an available towing capacity of 10,000 lbs which puts Sequoia among the leaders in its class.

To provide a vehicle that will not fatigue its driver or passengers even on very long trips, Sequoia engineers focused on improved ride comfort and quietness, and on enhanced straight-line stability.

The new independent suspension employs upper and lower A-arms at each wheel, tubular shock absorbers, coil springs and a hollow tubular antiroll bar. It provides not only improved chassis dynamics thanks to reduced unsprung weight, but also a turning radius of about 19 feet, the tightest in Sequoia's class. Additionally, increased suspension travel and a newly developed upper front shock-absorber support and lower bushing help enhance ride quality.

An available air suspension package and Active Variable Suspension (AVS), with settings for comfort, normal and sport, improves the ride comfort and augments the Sequoia's ability to tow and haul heavy loads while maintaining an appropriate ride height and chassis attitude.

Larger tires and wheels were adopted to complete the chassis equation. Standard are 275/65R18 tires and 18-inch aluminum wheels, while 275/55R20 tires and specially designed 20-inch aluminum wheels are available.

Inside those wheels, Sequoia uses 13.9-inch ventilated disc brakes up front and 13.6-inch ventilated disc brakes at the rear. To improve braking performance and fade resistance, calipers with four opposed pistons – two per side – are used for the front brakes. The Anti-lock Braking System is equipped with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and Brake Assist.

Design and Styling
Working from a design theme articulated as “Rugged and Advanced,” engineers gave the 2008 Sequoia a new, larger body size and a tough new look.

Sequoia's overall length, width and height are increased, its wheelbase lengthened and its front and rear track is widened. Front and rear overhang, meanwhile, is reduced.

Larger headlamps, with available headlamp washers, were adopted, as were large side-view mirrors that are available with power retraction, automatic glare-resistance, puddle lamps, turn-signal lamps, position memory and reverse-linked tilt functions.

This new design achieves a drag coefficient of 0.35, which means the vehicle offers exceptional aerodynamic characteristics and low wind-noise. The vehicle's mirrors, wipers, A-pillar and roof header are shaped to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and minimize wind noise.

The Sequoia's underside, meanwhile, also is optimized to reduce drag and wind noise, and to help improve directional stability.

Interior and Comfort
A primary design goal was to ensure that the 2008 Sequoia is useful and user-friendly and its driver and passengers, regardless of size and build, have sufficient space to ride in comfort. To that end, the Sequoia's cabin interior is longer, wider and taller than the previous Sequoia. Indeed, space sufficient to comfortably accommodate people well above normal height is available in each of Sequoia's eight seats.

Additionally, the second-row seat is equipped with a sliding-type seat adjuster that allows the seat to be adjusted for added comfort when the number of passengers is limited. For the third-row seat, an advanced seat-cushion linkage reclining mechanism is adopted that elevates rear passenger comfort to new levels.

Designers took special care to create comfortable, spacious seats in all positions. To help achieve this goal, a new seat framework, with increased seat width, was adopted. The driver's seat is standard-equipped with power lumbar support, and available as an option on the front passenger seat. Seat heaters are available for the driver seat and front passenger seat.

The second-row seats are split 40:20:40, and separate captain's seats are available. The second-row seat is equipped with a seat-slide mechanism that offers an adjustment range of 5.9 inches.

This seat can also be folded down flat and uses an easy-slide action to allow passenger access to the third-row seat. A seat heater is standard with the Platinum grade, and child-seat restraints for the second row are standard on all grades.

The third-row seat is split 60:40, and it also has a seatback reclining mechanism. It too can be easily folded flat.

The interior surrounding these seats is a model of comfort, safety and efficiency and is filled with thoughtful details. For example, the rear-view mirror incorporates an automatic electrochromic function, and also incorporates a compass, a map lamp and garage-door-opener functions. Other thoughtful features include automatic up-and-down and jam protection for the front power windows, a back-door power window with automatic up-and-down, jam protection, and an available power back door equipped with an easy-closer and remote-control functions. An illuminated entry system is standard.

For the dash, designers incorporated a modular instrument panel structure and they endowed it, and other interior surfaces, with a finish and feel worthy of comparison with similar surfaces in the finest luxury cars. Rings around Sequoia's Optitron gauges, and the climate control knobs, are chrome colored, and panels on the dash are silver metallic.

A newly designed four-spoke steering wheel contains controls for the Sequoia's air conditioning system, Bluetooth®-capable phones and other functions. It is connected to a newly developed steering column with a floating intermediate shaft that helps enhance steering feel and minimize noise and vibration. This steering column offers both tilt and telescopic functions, and a powered memory feature is available.

The 2008 Sequoia offers automatic air-conditioning with solar sensors and automatic left and right independent temperature controls. Rear air conditioning also is part of the package. This three-zone system uses a newly developed multi-layer filter to ensure that air brought into the passenger cabin is as free from dust, pollen and other contaminants as possible.

To help keep driver and passengers entertained, the Sequoia's audio system is improved and speaker placement is optimized. An AM/FM/CD sound system with eight speakers is standard for SR5. Also available is a 660-watt JBL Synthesis 14-speaker system. The JBL systems are Bluetooth-compatible and are capable of receiving XM Satellite radio with the appropriately installed equipment and service subscription. Both are equipped with MP3 ports. A new-generation navigation system with a new menu screen and an improved seven-inch display is available for 2008.

To enhance the travel experience for passengers in the second- and third-row seats, a Rear Seat Entertainment system with a DVD player and nine-inch display is available.

The same efficient packaging that allows class-leading interior comfort, allows hauling pieces up to 11 feet in length.

Throughout, there are eight extra-large cup holders and eight bottle holders, and designers also took steps to enhance Sequoia's availability of storage spaces. For instance, the glove box now measures 9.5 liters, and the second-row console box will hold 12 CDs or four DVD cases.

For the seating surfaces, both leather and an easy-to-clean fabric are available. Three interior colors are available, one of which is new. The new one is Red Rock/Black, available only in the Platinum grade, while the others are Gray and Sand Beige.

Safety
The 2008 Sequoia employs active and passive safety features to help provide protection for vehicle occupants. Sequoia is equipped with Toyota's STAR Safety System, which includes VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), and TRAC (Traction Control) (2WD models) or A-TRAC (Active-Traction Control) (4WD models), ABS (antilock braking) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and Brake Assist.

Sequoia's collision safety performance is enhanced by driver and passenger seat-mounted side- and side- curtain airbags that are included as standard equipment; and roll-sensing side curtain airbags that extend from the front seat to the third-row seat.

Standard Features and Options
The 2008 Sequoia is available in three grades – SR5, Limited and Platinum.

The list of standard items on the SR5 and Limited grades, includes the 276 hp 4.7L V8 engine and automatic transmission, Toyota's STAR Safety System, Electronic Brake Distribution with Brake Assist, side curtain airbag with rollover sensor, engine immobilizer with alarm, direct tire pressure monitoring system, seating for eight passengers, eight-way manually adjustable driver's seat, four-way manually adjustable front passenger's seat, fold-flat feature for second- and third-row seats, auto tri-zone air conditioning, power windows, locks, back window, keyless entry, AM/FM/CD eight-speaker audio system with a mini-plug for iPod compatibility, rear wiper and defogger, tilt/telescope steering wheel, cruise control, spare tire and mud guards.

To that, the Limited grade adds front and rear parking sonar, fog lamps, heated leather-trimmed seats, 10-way-adjustable driver's seat, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear shift knob, Optitron gauges, multi-information display, electrochromatic rear-view mirror, roof rack, running boards and JBL Synthesis audio system with Bluetooth capability.

A wide range of options is available on the SR5 and Limited Grades, including the 5.7L V8 engine and six-speed transmission, four-wheel drive, a towing package, rear-seat entertainment system, heated leather-trimmed seat packages, load-leveling rear air suspension, sunroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, power back door, and more. Laser cruise control is an option exclusive to the Platinum grade.

Interesting Details
The Sequoia's designers and engineers went to extraordinary lengths to make sure the vehicle is as comfortable to ride in and convenient to use as possible. As an example of the conveniences they specified, an available electrically driven full-flat tilting mechanism was developed for the third-row seat. When the seat is folded into its flat position, large baggage or cargo can be loaded without removing the seat.

Every small detail was carefully planned in the effort to ensure concerns of quality were attended to. For instance, engineers worked to improve the operational feel of the Sequoia's switches. They specified large door handles that would be easy to use, and located the handles at an optimum height.

Closing the back door requires less force than was required on previous models, and the back-door glass can be opened and closed for easy loading or ventilation with the turn of a key. Also included are handy hooks in the cargo section from which to hang grocery bags.

The rear door opening angle is 10 degrees wider than the previous model, providing easier passenger ingress/egress and child seat installation.
An intuitive parking assist system is optionally available. This uses sensors and an audible warning to alert the driver of the position of solid objects, and their distance from the vehicle.

As a final interesting touch, the Sequoia's towing hitch is integrated into the frame as a single unit.

Warranty
Toyota's 36-month/36,000 mile new-vehicle limited warranty applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Additional 60-month warranties cover the powertrain for 60 months/60,000 miles and corrosion perforation for 60 months with no mileage limitations.

PRESS RELEASE

All-New 2009 Nissan Murano Crossover Offers New Design, Advanced Technology and “Business Class” Features

The original Nissan Murano, launched in 2003 as a 2004 model, set new standards for style and sportiness in the expanding mid-size crossover sport-utility vehicle marketplace, becoming, in essence, a “class of one.” The all-new, second generation 2009 Murano elevates that unique position through a “super evolution” of the original design – with a new exterior, interior and enhanced technology. Murano’s new premium driving feel results from a combination of a new advanced platform, continued refinement of Murano’s standard V6 engine and new, second-generation Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission).

“The 2009 Murano is an upgrade, not just compared to the previous generation vehicle, but the entire crossover SUV segment,” said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. “With its unique combination of modern design, dynamic performance, new ‘business class’ interior and overall refinement, Murano continues to stand out as the most distinctive, refined vehicle in class.”

The 2009 Murano’s new exterior features a wide front end with a dynamic front fascia design, a wide grille with large integrated headlights, strong body side character lines with pronounced 18-inch or 20-inch wheels and tires and a distinctive rear end set off by an expansive rear glass area and LED taillights.

Murano’s newly designed interior plays on the “mobile suite” theme, complete with new instrument panel and center stack design, new seat design with available double-stitched leather-appointed seating surfaces, use of premium materials such as leather and aluminum, a variety of storage compartments and ambient lighting.

The 2009 Murano is powered by a revised 265-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 backed by a new advanced Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission), with a front-wheel drive or an advanced all-wheel drive drivetrain. Murano also features a new D-platform, as well as new suspension, body structure and state-of-the-art steering for improved ride comfort and precise handling.

Multiple technology features are available on the 2009 Murano, including standard Push Button Ignition and available Intelligent Key, RearView Monitor, integrated iPod® connectivity, DVD Mobile Entertainment System with 9-inch screen, 11-speaker Bose® audio system and an enhanced touch screen Nissan Navigation system with voice activation XM® NavTraffic real-time traffic information (XM® subscription required, sold separately) and 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive.

“All of these features combine to create a crossover that is a standout in its class,” said Bosley. “One of the strengths of the new 2009 Murano is that you get the total package – design, performance, safety and technology in one refined, quality vehicle.”

New, Dramatic Styling

One of the most striking aspects of the 2009 Murano is its new body, which imparts a “modern art” feel, but still maintains the “Murano-ness” that consumers have enjoyed since the first generation’s debut. “When someone looks at the 2009 Murano, they’ll instantly know what it is by its distinctive Murano style,” said Bosley. “The new Murano’s design takes its cue from the original vehicle and adds a more rewarding sense of style and individuality. Others have tried to imitate it, but there is only one true Murano.”

Murano’s new front end features a distinctive grille treatment with wide front headlights – with available quad-cylinder style High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional projector headlights adding an even more imposing view. A new hood sweeps into the sculpted, dynamic bodylines, with pronounced wheel arches and 18-inch or 20-inch wheels providing an aggressive stance.

Integrated fog lights are available on Murano SL and LE models. Large chrome door handles and available roof rails with adjustable crossbars (accessory) add both functionality and visual accents.

The Murano’s redesigned rear end features a unique rear glass shape, rear air deflector and large rear LED taillights that accent the body side character line. Dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers provide an appropriate “final” look to the 2009 Murano.

New available exterior features for 2009 include rain-sensing windshield wipers, a power liftgate, enhanced RearView Monitor with rear view camera and a large, dual panel power sliding glass moonroof and 2 nd row skylight – a new feature that provides an open-air experience for Murano passengers without compromising head room.

Eight exterior colors are offered on the 2009 Murano, including three all new colors – Deep Sapphire, Tinted Bronze and Saharan Stone.

A New “ Mobile Suite” Interior

Inside, the new Murano lives up to its “mobile suite” design theme, with an interior exemplifying warmth and modern style. From the sweep of the new instrument panel, to the new telescoping steering wheel design, to the wide console and ambient lighting, Murano owners feel a sense of warmth and security from the first time they open the doors.

Murano’s new front seats have been designed for enhanced support, offering a rich, supple feel and excellent riding comfort. The 60/40 fold-flat rear seat is now available with a convenient power return feature – the seat returns to the upright position with the touch of a button. Heated seats are available in the front and rear. Also available are new double-stitched leather-appointed seating surfaces for an inviting, luxurious feeling, an 8-way power driver’s and 4-way power front passenger’s seats and a driver’s memory system (seats, steering wheel and mirrors). Interior colors include Cafe Latte and Charcoal.

A variety of cargo storage areas are provided throughout Murano’s interior, including standard dual-level center console; pockets for mobile phones, coins, maps and more; numerous cupholders; an extra large glove compartment; and dual seatback pockets, as well as a large rear cargo area.

Another new, innovative Murano feature is an available foldaway cargo organizer. When needed, the organizer pops up with a push of a button from its hidden space below the rear cargo floor and a portion of the cargo floor snaps into a vertical position, revealing a flat recessed space with removable, vertical cargo partitions. The system helps prevent items such as sports equipment and grocery bags from rolling loose around the cargo area while driving. The area is also ideal for wet or dirty items due to its easy-clean box floor.

Other standard interior features include push button ignition; auto door lock feature, dual zone climate controls; Fine Vision gauges; and an AM/FM/CD6/six-speaker audio system with AUX-in jack, VTR jack and MP3/WMA capability.

More Power and a New Platform

All 2009 Muranos feature Nissan’s award-winning VQ series engine – a revised 3.5-liter DOHC V6 with 265 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. The engine incorporates a Twin Nissan Variable Induction Control System (NICS), microfinished camshaft and crankshaft surfaces, DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coated valve lifters, resin intake manifold, forged crankshaft, digital knock control system, high capacity muffler and lightweight aluminum block and cylinder heads.

Engine power is transferred to a new, advanced Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission) with Adaptive Shift Control (ACS) that provides a sporty driving experience and the smoothness that only a CVT offers.

All 2009 Muranos are available in front-wheel drive or with an advanced all-wheel drive system that adjusts to road conditions in a tenth of a second. The intuitive all-wheel drive system connects the Murano VDC system’s yaw sensors, wheel slip sensors and steering angle sensors with the AWD system. The system provides increased traction in all weather conditions by distributing engine torque depending on the driver’s intended direction and the actual direction of the vehicle.

Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with a Traction Control System (TCS) for all-weather confidence in front-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations is standard on all Murano models.

The 2009 Murano features Nissan’s new, advanced “D” platform that provides a solid foundation for crossover duties. This platform, which is similar to that used in the 2008 Altima, has been optimized for Murano. The new platform gives the Murano one-and-a-half times more torsional rigidity than the first generation Murano, helping improve noise isolation and reduce vibration – benefiting the ride comfort of all passengers.

Murano offers a standard four-wheel independent suspension with extensive use of lightweight aluminum for a reduction in sprung weight. The new suspension design, with its cradle-type front subframe and multi-link rear design with improved geometry and large front and rear stabilizer bars, provides increased stiffness. The suspension, in combination with high performance dual flow path shock absorbers, helps provide sure footing in all surfaces and increased ride comfort on rough surfaces.

A new twin-orifice speed-sensitive power steering system, similar to the one used in Altima and 350Z, provides the proper levels of assistance in around-town and high-speed driving. The Murano’s system provides a direct steering feel, inspiring driver confidence.

Braking is provided by large 4-wheel vented disc brakes (12.6-inch front, 12.1-inch rear) with 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

The 2009 Murano also features new wheel and tire packages – 18x7.5-inch 6-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with P235/65R18 tires (S, SL) and 20x7.5-inch 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with P235/55R20 tires (LE).

Back in April, Chevrolet debuted three concept mini cars at the 2007 New York Auto Show: the Beat, the Groove and the Trax (click here). GM then organized an online poll then to see which of the three concepts should go into production. More than 1.8 million voters participated and the result was that most people wanted to see the Beat finding its way into the market. Chevy listened and now GM announced that the Beat will base a production model which will be initially targeted to markets outside of U.S. and Canada, starting in mid-2009.

“The people have spoken. The vote count tripled all previous GM online consumer surveys, telling us the Beat resonated with customers all around the world,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Chevrolet was overwhelmed by the positive reaction to each of the ‘triplets,’ but the Beat was the clear winner.” -Details after the jump

Chevrolet's got the Beat: Production Slated Based on Global Popularity

LOS ANGELES – A vehicle based on the Chevrolet Beat concept, which swept through auto shows around the globe and the Internet earlier this year, will go into global production, Chevrolet announced today at the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show.

An online poll that attracted more than 1.8 million voters helped influence the decision to take the concept to production. The distinctly styled A-class car will be initially targeted to markets outside of U.S. and Canada, starting in mid-2009.

“The people have spoken. The vote count tripled all previous GM online consumer surveys, telling us the Beat resonated with customers all around the world,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “Chevrolet was overwhelmed by the positive reaction to each of the ‘triplets,’ but the Beat was the clear winner.”

The production model will carry the spirit of the expressive Beat concept, offering compact, city-friendly dimensions and a small-displacement engine that delivers excellent fuel economy. It adds further depth and breadth to Chevrolet’s global lineup, which is sold in more than 90 countries, giving the brand a leadership position in the segment – the fastest-growing automotive segment in many regions around the world.

“Fuel solutions and great-looking cars are at the core of Chevrolet’s values, and this new production model aligns perfectly with those tenents,” said Peper. “It will be truly global, built around the world for a variety of diverse markets.”

The Beat and the other concepts highlighted in the online survey were developed primarily at GM’s Design Studio in Bupyeong, South Korea , with input from GM’s global network of designers and GM’s Korean partner, GM Daewoo. As South Korea is a primary market for this exciting new car, production will begin there.

Beat beginnings

Conceived to evoke the mood of a speedy micro import tuner, the Beat concept debuted at the 2007 New York Auto Show, along with two other concepts, Groove and Trax. Looks like Suzuki has confused the SEMA Show with the LA Show if we judge from the Makai concept, a surf-inspired convertible based on the SX4 Sport hatch. Fabricated and painted by Andry Specialty Vehicles of Torrance, Calif., the Makai not only lost the SX4’s roof top but it also gained a custom body kit, styled exhaust, LED taillights and running lamps, large 19-inch CEC wheels in wide Michelin Pilot sport tires and, four-wheel disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and Rotora callipers.

The surf themed Makai also boasts a custom surfboard mounting rack and dual matching sunset orange trimmed boards while Suzuki designers shaved a couple of inches off the windscreen and added a targa rear hoop to further enhances the car’s open-air look. -Continued after the jump

The SX4’s cabin has also been modified with custom interior components, including ventilated, suspended seats in all four positions, high output, beach party-themed VeaLink audio system with MTX speakers and components, dashboard-integrated Garmin navigation system, Kinetik Power Cell battery, StreetWires audio/video install kit and cabling, Momo Sport steering wheel and color-keyed interior accent lighting.

The third installment of Volkswagen’s up! concept goes by the name space-up! blue. Concisely, the space-up! Blue is a fuel-cell powered version of the 5door space-up! prototype (see here) that appeared at the 2007 Tokyo Show in October. The LA Show car uses an electric motor which delivers 61 PS, turns at up to 10,000 times per minute and generates a maximum torque of 120 Nm.

The zero-emissions space-up! blue draws its power from an array of twelve lithium-ion batteries with a total energy capacity of twelve kilowatt-hours (kWh). These batteries have a 65 mile (105 km) range before needing recharging. According to VW, the space up! blue can go up to a top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h) while it sprints from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h in 13.7 seconds. -Continued after the jump

The cars batteries can be replenished either via an electrical outlet or by the Volkswagen high-temperature fuel cell. In the latter case, the prototype’s range is extended an additional 155 miles or 250 km, making it possible to drive up to 220 miles or 355 km in total on a single charge. Interestingly, VW’s microvan also utilizes solar panels on the roof which help supply up to 150 Watt of energy to the battery.

To the Point: The space up! blue

Clean Drive Revolution “Made in Germany

Volkswagen presents the first car in the world with high-temperature fuel cell

space up! blue covers downtown distances with pure battery drive

Wolfsburg / Los Angeles, November 2007. Powertrain revolution in California: Volkwagen is presenting the space up! blue concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 14 to 25) as a world exclusive – a compact, self-confident zero emissions van in the style of the legendary Volkswagen Samba Bus. On board: the world’s first high temperature fuel cell and an array of twelve lithium-ion batteries. When the electric motor (45 kW / 61 PS) of the space up! blue is driven exclusively by battery, a range of 65 miles is possible – enough to handle nearly all distances in downtown areas. In the scenario of tomorrow’s world, the four-seat Volkswagen is advancing to become the ideal vehicle for anyone who wants to drive – completely emissions-free – to work, recreation, school or university or just shopping.

Energy is "refueled" either via an electrical outlet or by the Volkswagen high-temperature fuel cell. In the latter case, the car’s range is extended an additional 155 miles. This makes it possible to drive up to 220 miles on a single "energy charge". Aside from this, the microvan utilizes another energy source: the sun. And indeed with a large solar panel on the roof. It supplies up to 150 Watt of energy that is also fed into the battery.

With its new high temperature fuel cell (HT-FC) Volkswagen is introducing a system that represents a turning point in research on fuel cells for mass production. That is because, the HTFC offers crucial advantages compared to all other fuel cell systems: considerably lower weight, significantly greater everyday utility, substantially lower price, and therefore clearly the better chances of becoming a reality someday as a mass produced technology. The high temperature fuel cell was developed at a dedicated research center founded by Volkswagen in Germany.

With its concept car being shown in Los Angeles, Europe’s most successful car producer is introducing the third variant of its "New Small Family" within just two months. Like the city specialist, the up!, already introduced at the IAA in Frankfurt, and the space up! presented in Tokyo, the space up! blue is a small space wonder too. Over a length of just 144.9 inches, a height of 61.8 inches and a width of 64.2 inches, it offers the space of a considerably larger vehicle. The clever space concept of the space up! blue – which is 1,090 kilograms "light" despite the fuel cell and batteries – is largely due to the layout of the powertrain. Its emissions-free electric motor operates – as did the engines of the Beetle and the Bulli (Microbus) at one time – in the rear. Also housed in the rear, under the rear seat to be exact, are the lithium-ion batteries. The high temperature fuel cell, on the other hand, is located at the front of the car.

Was ist das? Dies ist… mmm, it looks like some sort of crossover combing the DNA from a soft-top cabriolet and an SUV. At 4.62 m long, 1.91 m wide, 1.63 m tall and with a wheelbase of 2.81 m, the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro is roughly the same size as a BMW X3 which leads us to believe that it previews the upcoming Q5 SUV. Of course, the latter will have a… roof and a 5-door style body, but you can get a general idea of the 2009 Q5’s basic design elements.

Another fact that points to the Q5 is that the two-door, four-seater concept’s longitudinally mounted engine and the basic chassis and drivetrain architectures are taken from the inventory of modules used in the current Audi A4 and Audi A5 model lines. Powering the Cross Cabriolet Concept (which is equipped with a quattro permanent four-wheel-drive system), is a 240 bhp 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 sec. and has a top speed of 240 km/h (150 mph) while the average fuel consumption is 7.3 l/100 km or 32.2 mpg. -Details and image gallery after the jump

PRESS RELEASE – Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro Concept

Audi is introducing a new vehicle segment with its presentation of the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car at the Los Angeles Auto Show (14 – 24 November 2007). The two-door, four-seater car measures 4.62 metres in length and combines the genes of a typical dynamic soft-top convertible from Audi with the all-round qualities of a fully fledged SUV. The muscular, powerful, but also elegant lines make no secret of this vehicle's potential. The 240 bhp three-litre TDI engine with ultra-low emission technology delivers sporty driving dynamics with exhaust emissions on the level of the EU 6 limits. The quattro permanent four-wheel-drive system and high-tech chassis with electric ride height adjustment are a recipe for driving pleasure on all terrain and in any curve radius.

The Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro offers a new dimension in open-top driving among the SUV field: its fabric hood lowers itself to disappear completely behind the rear seats in a spectacularly brief 17 seconds; no B-pillar and no roll-over bar obscure the view of the heavens. And for convertible fans, it offers a new dimension in spaciousness: as an SUV, the Cross Cabriolet quattro provides its occupants with copious headroom, legroom and shoulder width in addition to an off-roader's typical height and comfortable sitting position. So when cruising along the beachfront, for instance, all four occupants can enjoy the open-air experience to the full.

The longitudinally mounted six-cylinder TDI in the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro is the brand's latest diesel engine. With a power output of 240 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, at this stage in its evolution the 3.0 TDI is now more efficient than ever – its average fuel consumption is a mere 7.3 litres of diesel per 100 km. The engine is also equipped with what is currently the most elaborate emissions reduction system developed for a production engine: the ultra-low emission system.

This does more than just ensure that the vehicle complies with all current exhaust emissions standards worldwide. It already meets the expected limits of the EU 6 standard, which is only due to be introduced in 2014 – and does so with quattro permanent four-wheel drive and tiptronic transmission.

Design and body
Spectacular – a term which sums up the visual impact of the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro painted in "Copper Sunset", whether the top is up or down. After all, without the hint of a compromise, the concept car combines classic Audi convertible hallmarks, such as the elegant fabric hood and aluminium A-pillar surface, with the undisguised dynamism of a sports car and the masculine presence of a genuine SUV.

4.62 m long, 1.91 m wide and with a wheelbase of 2.81 m: the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro has the dimensions of a B-segment vehicle. The longitudinally mounted engine and the basic chassis and drivetrain architectures are taken from the inventory of modules used in the current Audi A4 and Audi A5 model lines. The SUV-style height of 1.63 m with the hood closed marks the most significant difference to these relatives of the Cross Cabriolet quattro.

High passive safety
Body stiffness and passive safety measure up to the typical standards of an Audi convertible. This is achieved with reinforcements to the A-pillar, the rear seat cross member and the sill area, in addition to a simple trick that exploits the extra body height of an SUV. The Cross Cabriolet quattro has a double underbody that turns the open profile of a convertible body into a closed structure, producing a major increase in stiffness. This design feature is efficient and economical in equal measure, since it replaces conventional modifications that involve numerous body components and require significantly more material, thus adding more weight.

The A-pillar and the top edge of the relatively shallow windscreen have been heavily reinforced to aid roll-over protection. Two roll-over bars, normally lowered out of view, are located behind the rear seats and are preloaded by powerful springs. If the vehicle is in danger of rolling over, the sensor system releases the spring retaining mechanism, causing the bars to shoot up within milliseconds to provide effective protection together with the A-pillars for the occupants in the interior.

The dominant element of the face-on view is the single-frame radiator grille with polished aluminium longitudinal struts, emphasising its vertical orientation – a clear signal of the concept car's sporty character. Behind its clear-glass headlight covers, the latest lighting technology can be seen: the Cross Cabriolet quattro is the latest Audi to be equipped with full LED headlights, which also feature the characteristic strip of daytime running lights and the electronically controlled swivelling cornering light. The turn signals, brake lights and tail lights also use fast-reacting LED light units. In addition to the front and rear light units, the exterior mirrors also have integrated turn signals.

In the side view, a distinct aspect of current Audi design can be seen in the shoulder line and dynamic line, which divide the vehicle body volume into a clearly defined sporty architecture. An equally characteristic feature is the proportion between the large body surface and shallow window area beneath the soft top's sweeping roof line – the hallmark of a sports car.

Within the pronounced styling of the wheel arches, the large 21-inch wheels with tyres of size 265/35 R21 send out a clear visual message and make an additional contribution to both driving pleasure and safety.

The fabric hood, which lowers itself fully automatically in a Z-fold behind the rear seats at the push of a button, is a trademark of all open-top Audi models. It is a stylistic feature that makes the car recognisable as a convertible, even with the hood up, and requires considerably less space in the rear and adds less weight than a complex folding steel roof.

In terms of noise and heat insulation, the Audi A4 Cabriolet's multi-layer fabric hood has long been found to compare very favourably with a solid roof in everyday use.

The underbody guard and metal running boards are classic off-roader features. They have been given a modern interpretation on the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro. The running boards are integrated into the sills with a seamless transition to the door opening. The underbody guard covers the whole width of the vehicle. The LED front fog lights are integrated into the front section and the rear section accommodates the two exhaust tailpipes on the left and right.

Two generously sized doors provide access to the interior in typical convertible style. Thanks to the lack of a B-pillar and the easy entry front seats, rear passengers have no trouble getting in and out.

The rear loading solution is a perfect synthesis of convertible design and SUV functionality. When closed, the short stepped boot lid forms a continuation of the fabric hood's coupé line. When it opens, however, with the assistance of its gas springs, it lifts up high to provide a surprisingly large opening. At the same time, the glass rear window, which is hinged to the fabric hood, automatically lifts up too. The result is an opening to the luggage compartment that matches that of a conventional SUV equipped with an off-roader's traditional large tailgate. The loading width is 1.16 m and the load-area width is 1.05 m.

The Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro thus gives its driver the best of both worlds – the freedom and elegance of a convertible blended with the spaciousness and versatility of an SUV.

Interior
The interior of the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro offers sophistication and ergonomically perfect solutions in all areas and with all its materials. The smooth and soft surfaces together with a gentle, natural blend of colours help to provide an atmosphere of absolute ease for the occupants. For additional convenience, each passenger has a heatable and coolable cup holder, located in the centre console at the front and in the side walls at the rear.

The driver and passengers enjoy the comfort of four spacious individual seats. The seating is entirely upholstered in "White Stone" leather. All occupants benefit from lateral support and excellent long-distance comfort. To enhance comfort when driving with the top down, all four seats are equipped with an airscarf function. Air vents on the head restraints serve to compensate for the air turbulence around the occupant's neck.

The space available in the second row is unique for the convertible world: the legroom, shoulder space and headroom are unbeatable, even with the roof closed.

The centre console continues far into the rear of the interior and provides the rear passengers with a stowage box with lifting lid.

A regular Audi characteristic of the cockpit area in the Cross Cabriolet quattro concept car is the way it is markedly angled towards the driver. The controls can be found here, while the front-passenger area is emphatically neat and architecturally clear-cut. In turn, the dashboard and doors are connected by flowing lines, while the cockpit itself is smoothly and organically integrated.

In addition to the instrument dials under the dome-shaped cowl behind the steering wheel and a central LCD colour display integrated between them, the MMI also supplies information via its swivelling flat screen, well positioned within the driver's field of vision in the upper section of the centre console.

The MMI terminal on the centre console is also extremely neat. The central operating button and the six hard keys are the simplest way imaginable to operate the vehicle and infotainment functions.

In addition to the MMI terminal, the Cross Cabriolet quattro also has a touch-sensitive sensor field (touch pad) in front of the MMI control element. Like on a laptop, this can be used, for example, to move image sections of the map display. The system is also capable of recognising and processing commands entered by tracing letters with your finger on the touch pad.

Infotainment
Google Earth, the interactive, three-dimensional atlas of the world, has gained a firm role on all personal computers. Now this software is making life easier on the road too. Audi has, for the first time ever, brought together the merits of the internet-based system Google Earth and its own built-in navigation system to create countless information facilities with user-friendly graphics.

The high-resolution display and photorealistic 3D maps provide a new dimension in intuitively understandable bird's eye visualisations that are rich in detail. The image angle and section can of course be adjusted to suit the driver's wishes at any time. By connecting to the internet, it will also be possible in future for traffic and weather information or even data on air quality to be included and taken into account in planning your route.

Using Google Earth's search function, the driver can also find addresses or service providers at the chosen destination and navigate directly to them – for instance restaurants, car parks or an Audi dealer.

To enter a navigation destination, there is no longer any need to enter the address by hand. The driver can click on an image in the Google Earth user interface and be directed to the identified destination.

Bang & Olufsen sound system and internet radio
Leading the way in technical and acoustical quality is the sound system from Bang & Olufsen. Derived from the unit used in the A8 luxury saloon, it is no less of a delight to the ear in the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro. With its sparkling, brilliant reproduction, detailed resolution, precise spatial imaging and broad, well-defined frequency spectrum, this product from the Danish sound specialists satisfies every wish with its high precision and quality.

The key element in the Bang & Olufsen sound system is an amplifier with a supreme output rating of 505 watts. It processes signals digitally according to the manufacturer’s own surround algorithm, which enables the occupant of every seat to enjoy the full splendour of the system’s audio quality. The numerous user settings include four sound focuses. The system analyses the noise level inside the vehicle by means of a microphone and makes selective adjustments to its output signals in specific frequency ranges.

The advantages of a digital sound system really come into play in the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro's innovative internet radio system. This provides access to the countless radio stations broadcasting over the World Wide Web.

At the same time, it turns radio into a highly personalised medium. Simply by pressing a button, the user can give a positive or negative verdict on a music track. The system will thereafter only offer the user tracks and music styles that match his/her preferences. This enables the internet radio to create a highly customised virtual station for each individual listener.

In addition, the internet delivers a large range of supplementary data besides the music being played – from a graphic display of the CD cover to information about the track and the artists.

An intercom system is fitted to assist the occupants in communicating with each other. This removes the need to raise your voice – especially welcome when driving with the top down. Four microphones pick up the speakers' voices and relay them at a subtly amplified volume via the vehicle's audio system. The sound processor filters out background noise to give an extremely natural voice reproduction.

Drivetrain
Power is supplied by the latest stage of evolution of the three-litre diesel with common rail direct injection. It develops 176 kW (240 bhp) and has an impressive maximum torque of 500 Nm. It is this ultra-powerful TDI with a displacement of 2,967 cc that truly makes the Cross Cabriolet quattro a sports car. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h – yet the average fuel consumption is a mere 7.3 l/100 km. The 500 Nm provide a mighty surge of acceleration starting from just above idling speed.

The 3.0 TDI is coupled to the quattro permanent four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. If the driver wishes to change gear manually, the shift paddles at the steering wheel can be used. The especially designed selector lever with integrated control wheel for gear selection is a newly developed variation of the shift-by-wire system.

The latest 3.0 TDI is notable not only for its low fuel consumption, but also for its especially clean exhaust. A diesel particulate filter is used to reduce soot emissions: it cuts the already low level of untreated emissions further, by more than 90 percent.

The cleanest diesel in the world
The new 3.0 TDI with ultra-low emission system is a further step forward that demonstrates the potential of the Audi TDI. Drivers are thrilled not only by the dynamism of 176 kW (240 bhp) and the outstanding torque of 500 Nm, but also by its modest fuel consumption and extremely low emissions.

The ultra-low emission system raises the principle of the direct-injection turbocharged diesel to a new level. To develop it, Audi’s engineers combined a whole package of innovative measures. A new common rail system with piezo injectors operating at a pressure of 2,000 bar, high-efficiency exhaust gas recirculation and further optimised turbocharging join forces to achieve a significant reduction in untreated emissions.

A further technical breakthrough is the actual exhaust aftertreatment system, which cuts emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by as much as 90 percent. This system operates with the additive AdBlue, an aqueous solution of carbamide, small amounts of which are injected ahead of the DeNOx catalytic converter. In the hot exhaust gas, the solution breaks down into ammonia, which splits the oxides of nitrogen into nitrogen and water.

The AdBlue solution, which is biodegradable, is topped up as a routine operation each time the car is serviced, without the customer having to take any action. Since consumption of the solution is very low, Audi can guarantee that the amount carried on the car will be sufficient from one service to the next. The system will remain effective for the entire service life of the vehicle.

Thanks to their extremely low emissions, from 2008 Audi is able to sell its clean direct-injection diesels all over the world, even in the US states of California, Massachusetts, Maine, New York and Vermont where extremely stringent emission limits apply.

From 2010 on, Audi will be offering this new technology in further car and power output classes. The brand is pursuing a systematic strategy aimed at lowering fuel consumption and pollutant emissions still further. By 2012, Audi will have reduced its models’ CO2 emissions by some 20 percent – yet their sporty character will be enhanced at the same time.

quattro drive
The Audi Cross Cabriolet always transmits its power to the road through the quattro permanent four-wheel drive. Here again it delivers the supreme capabilities that have become an Audi hallmark in the years since this driveline was launched in 1980 – enhanced driving dynamics, safety and directional stability, together making up Audi’s proverbial ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’. Added to this, there is the legendary traction of the quattro driveline even under the toughest conditions, making it ideally suited to off-road driving.

The key element in the quattro driveline is its centre differential. It is a purely mechanical unit and therefore responds without the slightest delay. Its locking action is only active when the throttle is open; differences in rotational speed are tolerated when the brakes are applied and when cornering.

In normal driving conditions, 40 percent of engine power reaches the front wheels and 60 percent the rear wheels, permitting sporty handling with a rear-driven emphasis. When needed – i.e. when the wheels on either axle start to spin – the differential redirects most of the torque to the axle revolving more slowly and therefore having better traction.

The centre differential can direct up to 65 percent of the power to the front wheels and up to 85 percent to the rear wheels; as a result, the concept car can normally tackle situations close to its handling limits without braking intervention by ESP.

Dynamic chassis
The dynamic chassis on the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro combines precision and dynamism with a high level of stability. The suspension mountings, steering, wheels and brakes have been developed for top performance and numerous aluminium components are used to keep unsprung masses to a minimum. As in the Audi A5 and A4 models, the five-link front suspension makes a considerable contribution to the car’s dynamic character.

By moving the differential to the front and the clutch to the rear, the front axle is repositioned 154 millimetres further forward. Together with the relocation of the car’s battery to the boot, this optimises the load distribution between the front and rear axles.

The front axle comprises five suspension links per wheel – one supporting link and one guide link form the lower level and two guide links the upper level. The fifth link – the track rod – joins the steering box to the wheel bearing housing. All suspension links are forged aluminium parts, which guarantee low unsprung masses and extremely precise wheel location.

If sporty handling is to be combined with a high standard of ride comfort, the unsprung masses must be kept as low as possible. Audi has pursued this approach for all the rear-axle components. The upper transverse links and the track rods are aluminium forgings. Their high rigidity ensures that toe and camber angles change very little when dynamic forces act on the wheels.

The springs act directly on the wheel carriers. The design engineers adopted this layout because it enabled them to increase the ride comfort to luxury-car level and at the same time achieve the road dynamics of a sports saloon.

Stepless – the shock absorbers
The CDC (continuous damping control) shock absorbers, similar to those that Audi already uses on the luxury Q7 SUV with air suspension, are twin-tube gas-filled hydraulic units with an additional external valve and connecting pipe. Their operation can be continuously varied.

An electromagnetically energised proportional-action valve regulates the flow of hydraulic fluid between the inner and outer damper tubes. A smaller flow cross-section makes the damping characteristic firmer, a larger one makes it softer.

The control unit applies adaptive operating characteristics within the mode the driver has chosen via Audi drive select. It adapts to match the driver's driving style and the road conditions. Even from the comfort mode, the shock absorbers can be switched in an instant to a firm setting if desired, though not to the absolute limit. They are fitted in conjunction with sports suspension springs, which still provide a good standard of ride comfort, even off road.

The control unit selects the optimum damping force for the current driving situation, for instance firmer damping to prevent body roll and pitch when cornering fast or braking, lower damping force in off-road terrain where the surface under the wheels is hard and uneven.

Electric ride height adjustment
As a true SUV, the Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro displays impressive off-road talents. These include its innovative electric ride height adjustment, which varies ground clearance by a total of 40 millimetres at the touch of a button. It works by means of electric motors under each wheel's spring plate that raise or lower the vehicle body. In addition to its low weight, one of this system's winning features is its operating speed: the preselected ride height level is reached in a maximum of four seconds.

This brings obvious advantages for the driver, not only when venturing into rough off-road terrain. The height of the vehicle body can be adjusted to make getting in and out that bit easier and also – as already seen in the Q7 – the rear can be lowered separately for easier loading into the luggage compartment.

For reasons of safety, handing dynamics and economy, the body moves automatically to the low setting at speeds above 80 km/h, thus both lowering the centre of gravity and reducing air resistance.

The system is operated either via the MMI, a button in the luggage compartment or even from outside the vehicle using the key.

Controlled power – the ceramic brakes
The Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro is equipped with ceramic brakes on all four wheels for effective deceleration even under the most demanding conditions. Compared with conventional steel discs, ceramic brakes not only last four times longer, up to 300,000 kilometres, but also offer high resistance to fading. The significant reduction in weight also leads to advantages in terms of comfort and handling, thanks to reduced unsprung masses.

On the front axle, 380-millimetre ceramic discs are fitted in combination with 21-inch wheels. The rear discs have a diameter of 356 millimetres. The elaborate cooling duct geometry of the ventilated brake discs ensures optimum brake disc cooling. Firm grip on the brake disc is guaranteed at the front by 6-piston monobloc aluminium brake callipers, and at the rear by floating-calliper brakes.

Audi drive select
The Audi Cross Cabriolet quattro is equipped with Audi drive select, as optionally available in the current generation of the bestselling Audi A4. This allows you to preselect three highly individual configurations for the engine and gear-change characteristics, and the adaptive shock absorbers. The result is a car that can be enjoyed in completely different ways and that offers a huge potential in the field of efficiency.

The default setting is the "dynamic" mode, which is automatically activated every time the engine is started and is designed purely to produce the dynamic yet comfortable driving feel typical of the brand, which Audi drivers have come to expect of their cars.

The "sport" mode gives the Cross Cabriolet quattro an emphatically sporty driving feel. The shock absorbers are set firm, the engine responds more spontaneously to the throttle and the tiptronic transmission’s shift points move higher up the engine speed range: the ideal basis for active driving pleasure on winding roads.

When the driver switches to the "efficiency" mode using the MMI, the engine and S tronic respond gently to commands from the accelerator and shift paddles. This setting is ideal for a relaxed driving style, as well as offering tremendous potential for effectively lowering fuel consumption, and therefore emissions too.

In efficiency mode, the air conditioning system is automatically switched off and is only reactivated if the driver so wishes. A completely new interpretation of the cruise control system also moves the vehicle with minimum fuel consumption, allowing it to drop below the set speed within a certain lower limit in favour of lower fuel consumption, for example on gentle uphill stretches of motorway.

The efficiency mode also makes use of route data from the navigation system and the adaptive cruise control to reduce speed early and make driving as economical as possible by avoiding the need for heavy braking when approaching a tight bend or a vehicle driving ahead.

In this way, under normal operating conditions and combined with a forward-looking driving style, Audi drive select can achieve fuel savings of well over 20 percent compared to dynamic mode.

Is this the long-rumoured Audi TT-S in Roadster form as the member of the “TT Owners Club” supports in the forum? Well, to be frank, and even though the TT Roadster viewed here does seem to be wearing different body parts (eg. bumper) the mediocre quality of the images clearly prevents us from making any trustworthy assumptions. Just for the record, the TT-S is said to be a sportier version of the TT equipped with a 300 Hp version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that is expected to be introduced sometime next year. -More pics after the jump

LA Show: 2009 Lincoln MKS

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , , | Bookmark and Share

Ford’s semi-luxury (…) Lincoln brand took the wraps off the production version of the MKS at the 2007 L.A. Show today. Based on the underpinnings of the Ford Five-Hundred/Taurus, the 2009 MKS will unseat the Town Car as Lincoln’s flagship model -though the latter will continue to be produced. Penned by former Volvo chief designer, Peter Horbury, the MKS aims at drawing customers under 50. Lincoln believes that up to 60 percent of those buying it will be
first time customers to the make.

To be honest, we’re not thrilled with the MKS’ looks -inside or out. The sedan’s exterior appearance is cluttered mixing Korean, American and Japanese styling cues while the interior would probably seem too vintage even to my 63-year-old father… -Continued after the jump

Under the hood the 2009 MKS is powered by a Lincoln’s new 3.7-liter V6 engine. The powertrain has been derived from the 3.5-liter V6 found in the Lincoln MKX. This engine delivers 270 HP and 265 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift. The MKS will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions. Sales will start in the summer of 2008 with prices kicking off at $38,000 for the FWD model.

Los ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2007 – The all-new 2009 Lincoln MKS full-size luxury sedan debuts today, providing customers understated style, first-of-a-kind convenience features, advanced safety and one of the best values in the luxury market.

Unveiled at the Greater Los Angeles International Auto Show, the new Lincoln flagship is designed to help fuel Lincoln’s growth by attracting new customers.

Lincoln has reestablished itself as a quality and design leader with award-winning products like the Lincoln MKZ, MKX and Navigator,” says Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company’s president of The Americas. “With the Lincoln MKS, we are raising the bar even higher with unparalleled amenities and performance, and a price that should be irresistible to luxury customers.”

The New Lincoln Flagship: A Strong Contender in the Luxury Sedan Segment
The Lincoln MKS is a full-size luxury sedan aimed at bringing new and younger buyers into the Lincoln fold. Not traditional luxury buyers who shop based on name and price tag alone, Lincoln MKS customers are under 50 and value beautiful modern design, more fuel efficiency and good value.

Pricing for Lincoln MKS starts at less than $38,000, a strategic move aimed at attracting new customers to the brand. Many will be first-time luxury buyers, with a significant number expected to migrate from imports. In fact, up to 60 percent of those buying the luxury sedan are expected to be new to Lincoln.

“We’re playing to win with the Lincoln MKS, especially in California, where more luxury vehicles are sold than anywhere else. We will do so by offering confident, understated, respectful luxury – not something that will go out of fashion in a year or two,” said Mike Richards, Lincoln General Marketing Manager. “We’re also making an extra effort to reach out to African American and Hispanic buyers who want and deserve luxury in their lives, in part, through new marketing relationships with artists Common and Juanes.”

Juanes, a 12-time Latin Grammy award winning artist, will help introduce SYNC, which is standard on Lincolns and widely available on Ford and Mercury products, to the Hispanic market. Juanes was recognized by Time magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World” for his belief in the possibility of social change through music.

Common, an accomplished musician, children’s author and actor, will represent Lincoln beginning in 2008. The partnership will feature multiple levels of advertising, marketing and promotional activities between Lincoln and Common’s wide-ranging businesses and his community service program. Common is currently appearing with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in the Ridley Scott-produced film American Gangster.

Consumers can visit www.lincoln.com to build and price their ideal Lincoln MKS and place their order at their local Lincoln dealer immediately.

To be built at Ford Motor Company’s Chicago Assembly Plant, the Lincoln MKS will begin arriving in Lincoln showrooms next summer.

Loaded with Convenience and Technology: Lincoln MKS offers unprecedented amenities
The Lincoln MKS offers a suite of technologies and features not found on other luxury sedans. They include:

  • SYNC, a hands-free, voice-activated hands-free in-car communication and entertainment system developed by Ford and Microsoft. The system fully integrates most Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and digital media players, providing customers hands-free cell phone and music selection capabilities.
  • THX®-certified audio system with 5.1 Surround Sound, SIRIUS Travel Link™ and Voice-Activated Navigation, which provides superior sound quality – plus real time traffic updates, movie listings, radar weather forecasts and even directions to the closest local gas stations with the best prices.
  • Lincoln’s Next-Generation Keypad, which uses heat-sensing technology to bring alive the keypad of LED backlit numerals embedded in the driver side B-pillar. The driver enters a five-digit code to unlock the vehicle.
  • Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel-Filler System, a customer convenience that helps reduce evaporative emissions that create smog and global warming. When fueling is completed, and the nozzle is removed, the system automatically seals shut.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which allows the driver to set the car’s speed and maintain that speed without using the accelerator pedal. The radar-based system also can monitor the vehicle in front (up to 600 feet) and adjust the speed of the Lincoln MKS to keep it a safe distance behind the lead vehicle. Four settings accommodate different driving styles.
  • Intelligent Access with Push Button Start, which is a first for Lincoln and allows the driver to enter the Lincoln MKS and start the engine without using a key. Drivers simply carry the special fob as they approach the vehicle, touch the keyless entry pad on the B-Pillar, open the door and with the brake pedal engaged, start the engine by pushing a button.
  • Adaptive Headlamps with Automatic High Beams and Standard High-Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps, which enhance nighttime visibility by illuminating more of the road and reducing glare from oncoming traffic. Sensors monitor vehicle speed and steering wheel input engaging electric motors that pivot the left headlamp up to five degrees and the right headlamp up to 15 degrees to increase the driver’s field of vision. Plus, automatic high beams switch to high intensity when no other vehicles are detected.
  • Rain-Sensing Wipers, which are moisture-activated and programmable.
  • Forward Sensing System, which determines how close front objects are while parking.
  • Rearview Camera System, which is mounted beneath the Lincoln Star on the decklid and activated when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, giving the driver a view of what’s behind the vehicle. The system works in conjunction with the vehicle’s reverse sensing system and uses the navigation screen as a display.

Understated Design: Lincoln MKS debuts new design DNA
The Lincoln MKS is the first vehicle to embrace Lincoln’s new design DNA.

“Every element of this luxury sedan reflects the culture of Lincoln – from its well-proportioned athleticism to the design cues we have painstakingly developed, modernizing the best elements over time,” says Peter Horbury, executive director of Design for The Americas.

Its most striking exterior design feature is its double-wing grille, which sweeps up into the jewel-like headlamps, wrapping around the front fascia and forming a sharp crease that defines the high beltline. A subtle kick-up over the rear wheel calls back cues found on many classic Lincolns. Strong shoulders, dramatic C-pillars, clean body sides, a tall rear deck and large wheels and tires lend the Lincoln MKS a confident stance.

Modern luxury carries through inside, as well. Space is abundant, with a class-leading interior package. In fact, the MKS has the largest rear cabin in its class in every important dimension, including head, leg and shoulder room. And Lincoln tends to passengers’ comfort with standard heated rear seats, an overhead skylight and a sun shade for the backlight.

Its interior is sleek. For instance, the Lincoln MKS’s symmetrical instrument panel has fewer break lines than other luxury vehicles. The flow-through center stack is clean and uncluttered, with an information screen integrated at the top. The large center console has a split, two-piece, padded upper section. Each section slides forward individually to form an armrest.

“Luxury buyers still expect rare beauty, but today, they also seek authenticity,” Horbury said.

“This is space Lincoln can rightfully reclaim, given the design of our vehicles and the way we’ve chosen to adorn the MKS with the finest real leathers, rare woods, real aluminum and chrome accents – in a more environmentally responsible way.”

For example, the leather used for the seats is perfected with vegetable dyes and a chromium-free tanning process to create the softest leather ever used in a Lincoln.

It is supplied by Bridge of Weir Leather, the same company that provided hides for the Ford Model T and the iconic Continental Mark II, as well as the Concorde, the Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Burj Al Arab, the world's first 7-star hotel.

Ebony wood used for some models is reclaimed from furniture makers and others sources, offering a rare wood with minimal environmental impact. Also offered is Olive Ash, a wood with a distinctive grain pattern created when the roots of two trees grow together.

Smooth Power: Fuel-efficient V-6 today; V-8 power with V-6 efficiency tomorrow
The Lincoln MKS is powered by a Lincoln exclusive new 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The powertrain has been derived from the proven 3.5-liter V-6 found in the Lincoln MKX, which was voted one of Ward’s 10-Best Engines for 2007.

Both engines share the same strong, die-cast aluminum block and lightweight four-valve heads for smooth operation at high RPMs. The 3.7-liter’s larger cylinders contribute to the increase in horsepower and torque. This engine delivers 270 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift that delivers smoother shifts, better fuel economy, acceleration and the option to manually select gears.

“This engine is tuned to maximize the increased torque to improve performance where it’s needed most – standing acceleration and passing,” says Michael Celentino, chief engineer.

Less than a year after launch, the Lincoln MKS will be the first vehicle to offer Ford’s new gasoline turbo direct injection engine technology.

The premium engine – which offers the power and torque of a V-8 with the fuel efficiency of a V-6 – will make the Lincoln MKS the most powerful and fuel-efficient all-wheel drive luxury sedan in the market.

Lincoln MKS also is available with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that provides a confident driving experience in all weather. It uses a sophisticated system of clutches to quickly distribute torque between front and rear wheels – up to 100 percent in either direction – to avoid wheel slip. The AWD system works with the standard Advance Trac® stability control system to provide additional stability, transferring torque from side-to-side.

An all-new independent rear suspension design features vertically mounted shock absorbers mounted at the outboard end of the suspension arms near the wheels, maximizing suspension travel and allowing for more precise suspension tuning.

The MacPherson strut and rear-facing L-shaped lower control arm front suspension also was designed to maximize suspension travel and tuned to work in harmony with the rear suspension. As an added benefit, the new suspension design can accommodate larger, 20-inch wheels and tires without compromising ride comfort.

The Lincoln MKS comes standard with 18-inch bright, machined, cast aluminum painted 10-spoke wheels. Nineteen-inch 10-spoke painted, polished or machined aluminum or a class-exclusive 20-inch, 11-spoke, highly polished, cast aluminum wheel are available options.

Building on a Heritage of Safety Leadership

The Lincoln MKS is equipped with a comprehensive package of the latest in active and passive safety features to provide the highest level of protection for all occupants.

Standard safety features include: dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, safety belt pretensioners, load-limiting retractors, driver seat positioning sensor, side air bags and Safety Canopy™ side curtain air bags with roll-fold technology and four-wheel ABS brakes.

Additional standard safety features include an anti-theft perimeter alarm, Battery Saver, Belt-Minder®, Child Safety Locks, glow-in-the-dark trunk release, illuminated entry, LATCH (Lower Anchors & Tethers for Children) and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Boo, It’s the Geely Aoo...

Our first thought upon seeing the Geely Aoo was that someone in China managed to create the perfect movie car for the manic masked killer from the Scream Trilogy. Well, we were wrong, as this freak of a car will actually go on sale in China after its debut at the Guangzhou Auto later this year. -Continued after the jump

The goggle-eyed Geely Boo –er, we mean Aoo, is said to be powered by a 3-cylinder petrol unit. But who cares; it’s not as if Geely’s going to sell it outside China. You know something, maybe its better if Chinese automakers stick to replicating European or Japanese cars rather than trying to design them…

eBay: Plymouth Prowler Go-Kart

Being the adolescent car nuts that we are, we couldn’t resist posting this Plymouth Prowler look-alike go-kart that we found for sale on e-bay. True, you’d probably have a very hard time trying to fit in that miniscule cockpit –well, unless you look like Twiggy that is, but if anything else, you’d offer plenty of chuckles to anyone that happened to be around. -Continued

BMW Recalling 29,250 550i, 650i & X5 4.8i Models

Tuesday, November 13, 2007 | 0 comments » Categories | , | Bookmark and Share

It’s never amusing to get a recall notice in the mail, but better knowing that there’s a problem and dealing with it than letting it be. BMW on its behalf will send a notice to 29,250 owners of MY 2006-2007 550i, 650i coupe and convertible and MY 2007 X5 4.8i models for an engine cable repair.

According to the NHTSA, in conditions of below freezing temperatures combined with low humidity, it is possible for electrostatic discharge to occur at the fuel rails. If this were to occur, the V8 engine’s electronic control unit (ECU) could be affected resulting in engine stalling and we all know what that means when you’re on the road… The recall will begin during November 2007 with BMW dealers repairing the problem by attaching two ground cables in the engine compartment.

2009 Subaru Forester Sketch

We just discovered this sketch (allegedly) featuring the all-new 2009 Subaru Forester on the NASIOC forum. There’s no way of knowing whether it’s official or simply the work of a random artist, but we can tell you that Subaru plans on unveiling the all-new Forester sometime in 2008. In any case, the Forester featured here looks like it was inspired (in terms of design) from Subaru’s recently updated crossover, the Tribeca. Not exactly our preferred role model.

The European Commission has launched an in-depth inquiry to determine whether a €96 million (about $140 million) aid that France plans to grant to the Peugeot-Citroën PSA Group and other partners for the development of a hybrid diesel car (VHD) is compatible with EC Treaty state aid rules. While the Commission fully supports the development of less polluting cars, EU believes that Peugeot-Citroën, would have undertaken this project even in the absence of a state subsidy, given that other car makers have announced similar projects. -Continued after the jump

EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said: “The Commission strongly supports the development of more environmentally-friendly cars. However, we have to ensure that the aid is not spent on R&D that would have been carried out by Peugeot-Citroën in any event or which its competitors may carry out without state aid."

France plans to grant €96 million aid to Peugeot-Citroën and 16 partners in the form of grants and repayable advances for the development of various parts of a hybrid diesel car. The total R&D costs of the project are €470 million out of which €271 million would constitute costs eligible for aid.

The aim of the VHD programme is to produce a car that emits less than 90g/km of CO2 and has a fuel consumption of less than 3.4 litres/100 km. At the same time, the programme aims at substantially reducing the additional costs of buying a hybrid car. Both Peugeot and Citroen have presented several prototype cars equipped with the Diesel-Hybrid powertrain, the latest being the Peugeot 308 HDi Hybrid that debuted at the Frankfurt Show this September.

Guy Shoots Himself After Attempting To Change Tire!

Tuesday, November 13, 2007 | 2 comments » Categories | | Bookmark and Share

Have you ever tried to change a tire just to find that one bloody wheel-nut stubbornly refuses to budge? Well, we have and although we kicked, punched and swore, we never resorted to firepower to solve the problem.

But that’s not the case with a 66-year-old man from South Kitsap, 10 miles (16km) southwest of Seattle, who managed to injure himself in both legs after shooting at the mulish wheel-nut with his 12-gauge shotgun! According to the police, the frustrated man had been repairing his Lincoln Continental for two weeks and had removed all but one of the nuts on the right rear wheel. Guess this explains why he went nuts

Three Electric Motors
A four-wheel energy regeneration and drive system has been adopted which includes in-wheel motors in the front wheels in addition to one 150 kW rear-axle mounted electric motor. Thanks to this energy regeneration system with three motor/generators, the vehicle can more efficiently recover a greater amount of energy during rapid decleration and braking from high speeds.

Specially Designed Capacitor
In light of the fact that racing involves a repeated acceleration and deceleration under full system performance, a quick-charging capacitor system was adopted instead of the usual rechargeable batteries.
