A full set of images featuring the revised Mazda RX-8 have found their way on several Japanese sites today, prior to the car’s public debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 11 and at the Detroit Show on January 13. The car you see in these pictures is the all-new RX-8 RS version which will be available only in Japan. Alloy wheels, aerokit and Recaro bucket seats apart, the US and consequently, the European version of the facelifted RX-8 will feature the same styling changes as the JDM model. -Continued after the jump

Outside, the 2009 RX-8 gets a new front fascia that includes slightly redesigned headlamps, a new bumper with larger air intakes and a revised grille. In the car’s rear-end, there’s a revised bumper along with new tail-lights. In the interior, the only significant change seems to be the slightly redesigned centre-console. Since there’s no press release out yet, we don’t know whether Mazda proceeded to any mechanical upgrades.

Although this is a nice car with a high rating on the bling-scale, it still buggers me that the taillights remind me of the Honda S2000 and the front end is a combination of 2k8 Porsche Cayenne headlights and the Audi R8 spoiler :(

when you recall the simple elegance of the rx7 they really fell short of what they could've achieved with a facelift, admittedly it looks better, squatter at the front with those revised lights but the rears do echo the s2000 a bit too much. come on mazda! I think its the dome shaped roof that is the problem, if it was as angular as the rest of the car it would feel more complete. Great drive still tho, if not a little thirsty on the crude stuff.

this new rx8 in awesome. the body it is the best i've ever seen. with this said, i strongly suggest mazda to increase the rx8's engine to a 4.0 and its hp to 390bhp. GO MAZDA!!!!
