Mercedes-Benz SL Facelift vs Opel GT Front-End Design

We’ve already told you about the shocking resemblance between the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL’s Airscarf seats and… E.T. (see here); time to tell you about something else that has been rolling around our mind. Doesn’t the new SL’s revised front-end design with the single bar grille remind you a lot of the Saturn Sky’s European brother, the Opel GT? We certainly think so!

    Yeah right...Makes me laugh the fact that you compare such a poor car like the Opel GT, which is, really, a very poor car, with the SL-Klasse. Come on, your imagination goes way beyond the limits of normality!

    guess you could find many 'single bar grilles with a logo in the middle...

    although you got a worthy point on E.T...

    Those front ends look about as much alike as Twiggy and Jayne Mansfield do, as a Trabant and a Ferrari, a Corvette and a 1967 Bug. What are you thinking!

    Lol, all the MB fans getting their panties in a tangle over the comparison between the SL and the Opel GT. I love MBZ's logic in particular: "Makes me laugh the fact that you compare such a poor car like the Opel GT, which is, really, a very poor car, with the SL-Klasse". Just because a car is "premium" like the SL DOESN'T mean it can't look like a "poor car".

    Nonetheless, I think the vague similarities lie in the humps just above the headlamps. Otherwise, this isn't such a good call as the SL's ET seats which I thought was absolutely spot on. The new SLR looks coarse and squat with that huge grille. Loved the old one much much better which looked sleeker with more character. This one is a step backwards, design-wise, in every way.

    They're arent even close besides they both have headlights, and a grill, and foglights, and intakes....and the benz looks like crap on a stick.
