Well, the sky is actually blue -for the time being- but after seeing these pictures of Newport Convertible Engineering’s (NCE) drop-top conversion of the Toyota Prius Hybrid our eyes are aching so much that we nearly went color-blind.
The California-based specialty tuner’s proposition brings to mind those horrid BMW E30/E36 3-Series Bauer conversions of the late 1980’s – early 1990’s with its intrusive, but nevertheless necessary, roll bar and chopped window frames. If you can take it, there are more pictures after the jump.

Brilliant! Now it's much easier to throw a granade to one!
Someone wasted some money. The door frames need to be taken away to look like a convertible. Retarded.
Truth is, if Toyota built it they would tens of thousands of them.
But there is something inherently wrong with trying to sporty up a prius.
oh, and doesn't that hurt its drag coefficient?
Ok so it is ugly but I would buy one! Drive about 600 miles a week and would love a convertible but need the great gas mileage!
