Shown for the first time time in five-door trim in April at a special event at Seat’s factory near Barcelona in Spain, the Spanish carmaker has now released a new image gallery of its stylish 2009 Ibiza 5d subcompact hatch that will go on sale in Europe this summer.

The work of ex-Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke, the Ibiza will compete against cars like the new Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio in the European B-Segment. Towards the end of the year, Seat will also unleash a three-door variant along with the sporty FR and Cupra versions. Looks excellent, should do pretty well. VW are going to finally have a serious competitior in terms of interior quality and engines for the polo.

"VW are going to finally have a serious competitor(?) in terms..." well, the car looks fantastic, especially when you have a platform you can build mellow 1.2-80hp-sub compact and racy 180hp-3Door at one time, but on VW side I would call it "to shit at one's own nest", I mean good luck Polo, Fabia, and others...

That front end is incredibly horrible looking.

Is it coincidence that this Seat look like Mazda 2? Fabia-Swift copy maybe was, but this is too much. VW group is at least one year late compared to Japan car makers.

The Seat doesn't look like the Mazda 2 at all, the 2 is much nicer externally. This Seat looks alright, except for that distinctly UGLY grill and front air intake. Having said that, the Seat's interior is far nicer than the "plastic fantastic" interior of the 2, which is the only thing that mars such a good car.
