Crumbling pickup truck sales and rising gas prices have led Hyundai and its affiliate Kia to abandon (for now at least) their plans to build pick-up trucks in the U.S. “Because of high oil prices, the light-truck market has been declining,'” Kim Dong Jin, Vice Chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group said in an e-mailed statement today. “We don't think it's the right time.” -Continued

As for Kia’s new Georgia plant where the two Korean carmakers considered building their pickup trucks, the company now says that it will be used to produce the revamped Sorento SUV.

    No joke! I want to see if the trucks were as good as my Sonata (V6) is ! I love that car. Now the economy is going to keep the trucks out of the market. I guess I'll just have to keep on fixing my "Yota".

    I think A Hyundai truck would be awesome just make it a small or big truck...a lot of people would buy them!just build it on the kia borrego or hyundai sante fe or Veracruz frame there good on gas!

    I drive a 06 Sonata and i love it! I believe it would be the best move Hyundai could make to make a pickup truck. My husband and I are patiently waiting for Hyundai to come out with a truck.
