Average U.S. Gas Prices Hit Record $4 a Gallon for the First Time

|
American drivers are paying an average of $4 a gallon of gasoline for the first time in U.S history as of this Sunday according to the motorist group AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The national average price for a gallon of regular gas rose to $4.005 overnight from $3.988, but many of us have already been paying well above that price for some time now – we for example paid $4.08 yesterday afternoon in New England.

Unfortunately, that’s not the end of it as crude oil prices shot up nearly $11 a barrel Friday and approached $140 for the first time ever. In a statement issued Friday, the AAA attempted (unsuccessfully) to persuade gasoline station owners not to overreact to the single-day oil spike. "Consumers should not be overcharged for gasoline simply because the oil markets reacted so strongly to today's news," AAA said.

It's very expensive !
And your problem is the same as us in France ,but we have one chance ,our cars are smaller than yours ...and our country is smaller too.
But Exxon and friends could make an effort ,theirs prfits are so high !It's the same thing with Total but they' don't want to hear customers and one day, next morning ,perhaps ,there'll have a big problem (here ,some compagnies are on strike since one week..)
But tomorrow ,every driver will have an electric car and the problem will for oil compagnies. One day....

Thank God I telecommute everyday..

However the Mustang is now permanently parked in the garage. My wife's HHR will only be used sparingly.

Damn speculators.

I pay $4.40 for regular here in US. Other people in Europe pay more it's true but you guys drive less, have less traffic than we do here in Los Angeles and your cars are so tiny.

Yeah in fact, in Europe the pricetag is 3x higher than 4USD/gallon. Traffic, we have some fun too, cars well it's about everyone to choose if they want an oversized car or not (you have the prius, and even the smart... so choice is in everyone's hands)
