2009 Acura TLAccording to the guys that leaked the pictures, the new TL will be offered in two flavors, a front wheel drive version powered by a 280HP 3.5-liter V6 engine and the first ever AWD TL that’s equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive with power coming from a 305 HP 3.7-liter V6 unit. Man, that front end is beyond ugly.

  2. Anonymous // August 08, 2008

It is even uglier than a '96 Taurus. It makes the Subaru b9 Tribeca look good. It is truly awful, who at Acura thought there was anything redeeming about any angle of this car? What a shame.

I was a huge fan of the current TL styling ... this new one:
    - Horrible front grill
    - Even worst rear end

Infiniti is going to eat their lunch if they keep this up ..

What's up with all of Acura's new models? They are all so ugly. Is this their new style?

    wth! looks like a transformer...

    looks hideous

    Navigator: "Iceberg Right Ahead!"

    Honda/Acura: "Whaaaaaa???"

    Too late, we're all dead.

Nasty looking -- what's going on with the new designs??

Am I really the only one who likes it? It's really something special! I think when you will see in person it will be total different just like the new Accord.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Acura's new design direction, including this car, looks absolutly fantastic. Refreshingly different than anything else out there, and undeniably Acura.

    I mean TSX, not Accord

I thought the exterior was bad. The interior is worse. It is all just horrible. Look at the the 09 A4 then look at this. The A4 is beautiful outside and in. This just makes my eyes bleed.

OK, so silver might not be the best color to showcase this car, but...
I don't get it! This thing is gorgeous! I am loosing it? I have been in Europe for a while where Jap cars are few and far between...maybe my sense of car styling is changing.

This is what I would put my money on hands down.

Better looking than the 3 series (and I am a bimmer fan, I have 2 of them!)
Better looking than the G35 sedan
Better looking than the Lex IS.

The only issue I have is the lack of a manny tranny. If a Type S is still in the works, with a manny tranny, then I am game.

Interior is equally as gorgeous. The Maxima is about the only thing that might give it a run, but it is not 'premium'.

Anyway, nice going Acura. Now about that RL...that, is not pretty. The RL needs new sheetmetal, not a rework.

This TL is very futuristic, just like the current TL, that is why its resale value is excellent. The current RL is suffering because the design was an excellent departure from the previous RL, but it was not enough to carry it into the future.

    looks...erm...interesting...

The TSX is way better than the TL. Acura is starting to suck aS* big time

Looks horrible. The mishappen wing mirrors look like there are gnarled wrists holding on to them. The front looks like a bucktoothed snot nosed transformer. Good luck to anyone who buys this, it's like driving a monster everyone averts their gaze from to avoid looking at its ghastly looks. Keen competition for the Subaru Tribeca!

yes, all of who are saying this looks good are probably in the minority; this just looks bad!!! it's like they tried to reinvent the car as opposed to update it. this doesn't look better than a Lexus IS, not even the current generation TSX (or current gen. TL for that matter). i don't know...there's a lot to say about the current generation TL and it's understated look. this one...i hear a BMW 3 series-esqe redesign soon after it hits the dealers.

I love it! Its different and better looking than the boring german sedans

  19. Anonymous // August 09, 2008

Busy inside out. The front end = ew! The interior is ok but the dash with all the buttons, not quite ergonomic. All in all, way to busy for my taste.

  20. Anonymous // August 09, 2008

I don't like any of the new Acura sedan designs. They are too clunky, too thick and beefy and not sleek at all. They look like sedan trucks meant to ram into walls. The interior on the TL is an eye sore.

  21. Anonymous // August 09, 2008

At least the German sedans are boring looking. This goes beyond the pale and is hideous! What were the Acura designers thinking?! Let's design something repulsive, hopefully everyone thinks its really unique!

  22. Rick W. // August 09, 2008

The interior ergonomics as one person said is too busy. It reminds me of the last generation Nissan Maxima (pre-2009), with too many small buttons and too many places.

I am also disappointed to see that they did not offer a 6SMT or a 6-speed manual. Paddle shifters in an otherwise automatic is no different than switching over to the manumatic mode.

On top of this, the rear end is FUGLY. It's just like the Honda Accord. So much for making it upscale.

The front-end is OK. Just as we saw on the MDX and even the TSX, this TL will have the same front-end.

Chances are, the only people to buy it may be loyal owners already, those that just want a trusty luxury Honda, or people who actually like it.

Honda and especially Acura styling have clearly taken a direction to the more technical and more edgy look. I don't like it. Their cars are losing their sense of class that they used to have.

The exterior has too many edges, creases and details in all the wrong places, like they've tried too hard, and as a friend pointed out, the new Acura grilles look like Power Ranger helmets.

The interior like most recent Honda products is really busy, with way too many buttons not arranged in an easily accessible way (ie too many buttons, some a little bit out of reach)

what a bunch of children...it looks great and it will continue to outsell all of its competitors, i expect it well keep up well in performance as well

  25. Anonymous // August 10, 2008

acura took the same approach as BMW...confront with progressive and aggressive change. Everyone apparently hated the 7 and the 5 but their sales numbers betrayed the blog complainers. This thing gollws the same formula as the current 5 series, big and in your face. It will be a roaring success.

  26. Anonymous // August 10, 2008

I hope this doesn't succeed because I'd hate to have to look at that bottle-opener grill or that crab's underside of a rearend on a regular basis. Nothing on the design of this car works: not the sides, not the profile, not the rear, and especially not the grill. My god, these really are the end of days.

  27. Anonymous // August 10, 2008

gross!! this thing is hideous..which is the front end?

  28. Anonymous // May 07, 2009

Power Ranger was exactly what I thought of! I drive a Mustang. How many car styles are so iconic they come back after 40 years? This sure won't be one of them. Hey Andrewthecarguy did you get your vision care from european socialized medicine or something?
