In our previous post we informed you that VW was planning to release the first official images of the new Golf VI on Wednesday, 6th August. Apparently someone disagreed with the German carmaker’s schedule and released seven images (we even found large ones) of the 2009 Golf online on Sunday, 3rd August. But whatever, we’re here to talk about the Golf VI and not how the pictures were leaked on the net.
Truth is –and we don’t blame you- that some may mistake the Golf VI for a facelifted Golf V with a set of Scirocco headlights and Touareg tail lamps. Likewise, the Golf VI’s cabin looks like a revamped version of the current generation model’s cabin with bits and pieces from the Scirocco. While the evolutionary look may work for “mama” Porsche, we’re not sure that this is the right way to go in such a competitive segment. And to be completely honest, we’re tired of seeing the same play over and over again. -Continued
Looks aside, when the Golf VI hits European markets in November, it will be offered with a wide variety of turbocharged TSI and TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines, including various versions of the VW Group’s 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TFSI units. The Golf GTI, which is expected in late 2009 – early 2010, will be offered with a 2.0 TFSI engine delivering around 240 HP. While this has not been confirmed yet, rumours have it that the Golf R32's successor will use the Audi S3’s 2.0 TFSI developing close to 280 HP.

Dissapointigly conservative and evolutionary....
Looks the same to me lol. But then again, what do you expect from a company that's run by Porsche?
Boring as hell. It's like the fourth version of the same design - hey VW designers wake up and do some work!!!!
Guess teh license plate stands for "Work Of Boredom"
Are u 100 percent sure this aint a facelift?
I agree with everyone above but let me tell you, i love those rims!
If Winterkorn hadn't been so stupid to get rid of Murat Gunak, who actually proposed some very good design sketches for the new Golf, maybe this car would have finally got rid of that lack of inspiration and passion that all were able to find beginning with the 3rd generation up to the 5th. And now 6th. Shame! Why were they such unable to restore that boring design and come instead with a more fresh one, like in the case of the Passat? And what is more annoying is the fact that it will sell like hot cakes. DAMN, I hate VW!
Volkswagen's reasoning for updating the Golf is that the Mk. V was twice as costly to build than the Ford Focus. This update is mainly to save money, and isn't so much a reaction to slow sales (it's selling well enough and is critcally acclaimed in Europe).
IMHO it's a great looking Golf evolution ... smoother, more up market, class leading ... with a pleasing family link to the stylish Scirocco, hopefully that will extend right across the next generation of VWs ...
PS Kimmy the WOB number plate is on every car registered in Wolfsburg, the home of the Golf factory.
Booooring...
it's looks better than V generation Golf.
Are they having a laugh? This isn't anything approaching an "all-new" model - it's a very heavy facelift of the Mk V Golf, retaining the same architecture, glasshouse and roof panel.
In design terms, the 2004 changes to the Rover 25 went further than this does.
I don't think these are kosher guys. Look like photoshops to me...
"we’re not sure that this is the right way to go in such a competitive segment. And to be completely honest, we’re tired of seeing the same play over and over again." > I couldn't agree more. And really, are you sure this is not a facelift ?!
Boy i wish they're all fake
Front of Siroco meets arse of Tourag. Underwhelming. Hope the facia is amazing but guessing it will be a reorganisation of existing passat/golf/jetta/touran elements. Its a shame because I'll probably buy it.
D U L L ! ! !
Designers you gota be kidding me, all I know is that you can design a better car than this and I hope you don't disappoint me on R32
