Following the embarrassing leakage of the official sketches about a month ago, a Spanish website broke the embargo today and released the first shots of the facelifted Mazda MX-5 / Miata roadster. From what we can tell by comparing photos of the ’09MY MX-5 / Miata to the current model, the only visible differences seem to concern the front-end.
The evolutionary styling changes include the larger, and more trapezoidal-shaped grille that nests in a restyled bumper featuring a front splitter and new fog light inserts. Mazda also redesigned the car's headlights which appear to have a more angular shape. We are not aware of any other changes but stay tuned on Carscoop, as according to our sources, Mazda will unveil the 2009 MX-5 / Miata shortly. –One more pic after the jump

That is gorgeous. What a difference. I thought the current one looked uninspiring. This update makes it look more masculine.
Whew, better than I anticipated. The leaked drawings made the car look bad, but this is fine. Lines are still clean.
It's getting awfully close to the Honda S2000
Is it just me,or does the air intake in the front bumper look a bit Peugot-esque?
Yuck!
This is a gorgeous little car. This '09 model will be the best looking ride available under $50,000 USD.
Better than the current model which doesn't do much for me. I still think the 1999-2005 design is the best.
The front on the current design and the 2009 is still too rounded.
I have the right to change my opinion when I see one in the "flesh."
Nice grille shape that follows current family design trend. Grille and front end side grille opening(?) gives it a 'Boy Racer' look. Mazda apparently wants to blunt the North American 'Chick' car Stigma. Anybody who knows how to drive in the performance mode this vehicle is capable of knows its a real warrior. Lead an M-3 into a tight corner and it will fall behind quickly. The every day tractability of the Miata drive train leaves S-2000 owners wanting, especially all 5-speed equipped vehicles. The easy handling soft top is a real treat and the retractable top is pure genius. Add to that 'Anvil' like reliability, MPG, and resale and it's a winner new or used. The older 89'-93' 1.6 engine models when driven intelligently will return 28-29 MPG in the city and 38-40 MPG over the road at a steady 55- 60 MPH at near sea level (0-2500ft.) Brakes, Clutches and tires last forever in normal drive modes (I have 144.00+ miles on my original clutch and it has been abused some). I will buy other Sports cars (350Z next), but I will always have a Miata. A Knesal Portland, Oregon
I Have No Comments After I Seen This Images For This Beautiful Car....
I own a 2002 Special Edition and its the best looking Miata yet. I love it, but won't knock the newer models. The new designs look too confining.
Always thought the MX-5 (UK brand) to be a bit of a hairdresser's car. The sort of think your young mistress would drive around in if she wanted a "rag-top".
Things are changing it looks more masculine - might even get one to get me over my mid-life crisis.
Driving is all about fun and this is a drivers car. Not blistering accelration but fast enough and handles like a thoroughbred.
I want one...!!!
But...........living in Phuket Thailand the MX5 goes for a very kooool 2,400,000 Thai Baht for the soft top....$68,500 USD (ROE 35:1 USD) due to the 200% Tax/Duty imposed by the Thai Gov't on all vehicles not manufactured in Thailand.
That said.........I'll still get one.
