2009 Toyota Avensis Sedan and Wagon: New Image Gallery and Details

|
Toyota Avensis 2009The Paris Motor Show will see the world debut of Toyota’s all-new European flagship model, the Avensis that will be available in both sedan and station-wagon variants. Following the initial release of a rear 3/4 shot, Toyota has now let out more images of the Avensis including the first photos of the interior and of the station-wagon model.

Toyota Avensis 2009Designed, engineered and built in Europe, the third generation Avensis features a more distinct and crispier design than its predecessor. Notable styling elements include the BMW-like Hoffmeister kink, the high beltline and the somewhat ‘obtrusive’ design of the vehicle’s front-end. The interior styling on the other hand is more evolutionary as it echoes that of the current Avensis. -Continued

While Toyota hasn’t released any specific technical details, Carscoop’s sources report that the new Avensis will be offered with three new petrol engines that are not only more powerful but also more frugal and less polluting than the outgoing units. Specifically, the Avensis’ petrol engine range will comprise a 1.6-liter unit delivering 132 HP, a 1.8-liter engine with 147 HP and a 2.0-liter unit with 152 HP. The diesel engine range has remained unchanged and it includes a 2.0-liter D-4D with 126 HP and a 2.2-liter D-4D available with outputs of 156 and 177 HP.

According to Toyota, the Avensis will also feature new safety specifications such as Steeringassist Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+), Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) and Pre-Crash Safety System (PCS).

After seeing the initial rear photos of the car, I had very high hopes that Toyota had possibly discovered the world of understated style and out of the wilderness of blandness. I spoke too soon. Nope, Honda's Accord Euro and the Mazda6 are totally safe from this. It ain't gonna set Europe alight.

Overall, the car is... ok. It's not anything ground-breaking and the front end makes me cringe a little, but I'm sure a plethora of options should make this car 'somewhat' appealing to European consumers. I was hoping to front-end might look a bit more... appealing.

It's ok to be bland, but the slope and of the sedan's rear makes it look awkward, something not apparent in previous versions of Avensis. The rear has a fascia like original Volvo S40's.

Another fugly, lacklustre effort by Toyota

it's certainly not uglier than the previous generation. i'll have a better idea where it stands between honda accord and mazda 6 when i see it in real person.

I think the car looks amazing. I drive the current mark avensis. Its a company car and head office were thinkin of switching to Mondeo because of its high spec at competitive prices. I think the new Avensis is a needed replacment as the old model is somewhat dated. I look forward to driving the new model in 2009. WELL DONE TOYOTA. Jaysus you can't beat a toyota eh?

tell you the truth, its my favorite design for toyota 2008/2009 models cuzz all others have been horendious. what were they all thinking designing a corolla like that, the land cruiser- my God it took me 3 months to get used to its uglyness, that monster should have a masculine look not the over weight hooker that it appears to be plus a host of other rubbish they've been branding genious, learn from the benz n bmw,i'm not saying copy. honda has taken the quantom leap, take a look at suzuki, u cant imagine what they've come up with this years alone. i advise, toyota should get their act up to speed, we dont want just big headlights, common, give us some style, something sleak unless they are ready to loose the american market.definitely they have observed a decline in sales, wake up TOYOTA!!!!!

As a project worker for this car... you will be more than surprised by it. it has exceeded my expectations from day 1 of the project... A must for all to see. it truely represents what toyota motor manufacturing is all about. Mark my word. it is a fab car....

I have the first edition of Avensis II and it's simply perfect. This one looks even better, though the front is still a little bit too heavy. I would prefer that the board lights were white or light-blue for red lights are much more tiring.
Much better interior than Honda accord, much more comfortable than Mazda.
Overall: 9,5/10!

I think this new Avensis is closer to Saab style (front) or Volvo's (rear)... it's not so original as it was the previous version at its time...

Saab an Volvo should be proud...

Families and friends in town locations or in the country sides-look for nothing less than a TOYOTA AVENSIS SEDAN. "It is unregrettably the ultimate traveler comfort and beauty.

Very nice car....Good job from TOYOTA

Please change the dash board colour to blue or white but If TOYOTA has special attachment to Red on this make give the user an option, a soft button can do just that. I have a new generation RAV4, I need AVENSIS for complete TOYOTA RAVENSIS.... GOD WILLING! Good thinking... Good product... Good TOYOTA.
