|
Toyota HiLux 2009 FaceliftToyota has gone ahead and fully revealed its facelifted HiLux that will go on sale in Europe before the end of the year. For 2009, Toyota’s popular pick-up truck benefits from a series of styling, technical and equipment upgrades. On the outside, the subtle styling tweaks include the new trapezoidal grille and grey plate bar along with the more heavily profiled bumper and the new 15 and 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside the ’09 HiLux has been updated with a new four-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls for the audio system and multi-information display and a new air conditioning system. Toyota says it has also revised the instrument cluster and controls for the wipers and lights. -Continued

Toyota HiLux 2009 FaceliftUnder the skin, Toyota has upgraded the 169bhp (171 HP) 3.0 D-4D diesel engine in the automatic version with an increase of 17Nm in maximum torque to 360Nm. Moreover, the Japanese automaker replaced the available four-speed automatic transmission with a new five-speed unit that promises to improve performance and fuel consumption. According to Toyota, fuel efficiency in the combined cycle for the automatic version is increased from 30.1 to 31.7 mpg UK.

Toyota’s engineers also tweaked the suspension settings and added a new double-row roller-type rear axle bearings and more responsive valve structure on the front shock absorbers along with new bushes. Additionally, the new Hilux gains larger brakes with 297mm diameter ventilated front discs and 295mm drums for all four-wheel drive models, apart from the models equipped with VSC, which have 319mm ventilated front discs.

Depending on the market, Toyota says that it has improved the standard equipment on all models across the HiLux range.

I wish We in the US east coast could get a hold of one of those bad boys. We just got the Tacoma's great and everything, just need a diesel option to make it best.

This is a rebadged nissan frontier, a ton of all the details are very similar, but toyota will probably be throwing in their own engine into it... looks like nissan did a great job making the frontier, first picked up by suzuki and now this...

I live in thailand and i've had my hilux for 20 months now 4x4 4-speed (auto) ect-i (electric control transmission) i've put over 40,000 km on it and it still feels brand new. full time pozzy rear end, and excellent fuel economy for a truck 70L tank takes me nearly 800km driving at 120km and 50/50 city highway. if i nursed it i bet i could get nearly 1000 km on on tank (not my style). but at $45 US per full up i'm not complaining.

my only beefs with the 2008 is no cruise control that in now availible in 2009, and when in 4 wheel drive the turning radius locks up tight whenever I really crank the wheel. anyone else ever experianced this? probably going to upgrade for a 2010 in a couple months!

Yea i lived in canada and visit every year and many of my friends who own toyota's and have driven a hilux before in austraila, or with me, are very jealouse, it's about time they brought it out in north america. Anyone who's been on a hill in the rockys with a gasoline power truck knows that they need to be well over 3000 rpm to get any power, my hilux pulls steady at 2000rpm and over 100km without even a blip on the tack when i hit any highway hills.

i'm very curious to know how it would perform with a trailor, i've loaded it down before with 1000kg's of concrete and the suspension started to feel very musshy, the front end was rather light, i didn't like the feeling anything under 300kg's is fine.

BAR none the Best value mid size truck on the planet. Cost me $22,000 USD Fully Loaded.

Cheers

When all is said, Toyota is missing big sales if they would put the 3l diesel in a Tacoma or just get the HiLux certified for the US. I for one would buy it in a hurry. I own a F-250 SD crew cab 7.3l diesel (18-20 mpg) and there is no way I am going to trade it for something with a 6 that gets 18mpg. Enough Said>

Anonymous said... »December 26, 2009

Here in the USA we prefer the Tacoma because
It extremely ugly and gets 14mpg plus
It cost twice as much.

Fools. No car, barring limited run, bespoke pre-war models, EVER appreaciate in value to quanitfy them as 'investments'.

Cars and trucks ARE NOT investments.

I have written to all the major manufacturers asking them to consider offering a light duty diesel pick up truck in the US. The first one to respond will be the winner.

"I have written to all the major manufacturers asking them to consider offering a light duty diesel pick up truck in the US."

Virtually every automaker doesn't solicit production or product plans from the public though email.

You're living in the past. Shit like letter writing to an automaker suggesting an idea may have worked 50 years ago for some cars and trucks, but you're fucked today if you think it could work.

"The first one to respond will be the winner."

Winners of what? Appeasing you?
