The first official pictures of Volkswagen’s all-new (or, sort of all-new) sixth generation Golf GTI somehow found their way into the net ahead of the car’s scheduled debut at the Paris Show. As you can see in the photos, nothing much has changed compared to the fifth generation Golf GTI –at least in terms of styling. Even the alloy wheels appear to be the same… Compared to the standard Golf, the GTI gets a set of redesigned bumpers, side skirts, a larger roof spoiler and quad exhaust pipes that have been pushed to the corners of the car. –Continued

Inside, the photos reveal that VW maintained the tweed bucket seats as well as the flat-bottomed steering wheel of the outgoing GTI. In terms of power, we’re still short of official information, but according to our European contacts that we just talked to a few minutes ago, the new GTI will most likely get a 210 HP 2.0 TFSI engine matted to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DGS dual clutch gearbox. Stay tuned on Carscoop as we'll update the GTI story as soon as we find out more details.

These are official images released for publication today by Volkswagen. They were shown in two UK Auto magazines that came out today. According to the official press release given to the magazines, the new GTi gets the latest EA888 2.0-litre TFSI engine which is a development of the motor found in the Edition 30 of the Mk V GTi . The articles both confirmed 207 bhp, 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 148 mph. They also said it will get a six speed DSG box - i had heard that it would be a 7-speed DSG, which, when it does arrive should increase performance. Emissions are down . Quality is up and those seats are tartan, guys, not tweed. Best news of all is that VW also confirmed that a Golf R version will also be launched with 2.0-litre engine developing 265 bhp and all-wheel drive.

I like this revised design a lot more. It's a proper blend of the MKIV and MKV styling. The only odd part would be those toureg tail lights. I might be adding this one to my current collection of VWs.

Better looking than the Mk5 but still disappointing. Even with the split exhausts, it looks like a van from the back. No doubt it will be great to drive but come on VW, give us something better looking.

ZzzzA a scarcely revised looking GTi. Even the rims are the same, sounds like cost cutting by the bean counters here..

It really is a small step design wise. I'm quite shocked they could pull out with this. Although the number of conservative buyers are huge, so there is definitely a big market for this Golf. Still, how can they put the very same old school dash in this?
