MINI Crossover SUV Concept Paris ShowMaking its world premiere at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October, the MINI Crossover design study previews the British firm’s first ever 4x4 SUV that’s due in early 2010. The fourth body variant of the MINI after the classic two-door hatch, the convertible and the estate-like Clubman, adopts the same retro look as the other versions enhanced with a more gaudy chromed grille, large sweptback headlights that look like they were startled by their own appearance and the typical for crossover models, protective body cladding.

MINI Crossover SUV Concept Paris ShowThe Crossover is not only the first all-wheel-drive MINI but it’s also the first model in the range to measure more than 4 meters in length. And at 1,830mm / 72.0" wide and 1,598mm / 62.9" high, it is bigger all round than the Clubman (3,950mm in length). The Crossover’s 2606mm / 102.6"wheelbase is also 59mm / 2.3’’ longer, thus promising to offer more interior space. -Continued

Continuing the dim-witted door theme of the Clubman, MINI’s designers have equipped the Crossver with a single, side-hinged door at the back while passengers get two normal doors on the right side of the vehicle and tow asymmetric doors on the driver’s side with the rear left-hand door sliding out and back, just like your typical delivery van. Hopefully, MINI will get it right on the production version…

Inside the Crossover features a four seat layout with adjustable rear seats that can slide by 130mm or 5.1" fore-and-aft. So depending on individual requirements, the rear seats offer either extra legroom or additional storage capacity in the rear compartment.

MINI Crossover SUV Concept Paris ShowA further highlight of the interior is the ‘Center Globe’ that replaces the conventional instrument panel. Equipped with laser projection technology, the multi-function display serves to control all major entertainment, telecommunication and navigation functions, providing the speedometer function around its outer circumference

Although MINI hasn't announced any technical details on the Crossover, expect the production version to be offered with the same range of diesel and gasoline engines as its hatchback counterparts.

OMG a Mini had sex with a Infiniti FX and this is their illegitimate offspring!

I don't like the exterior much, it looks more like a miniaturized sport-utility vehicle then a Mini. I think increasing the wheel size is probably a good idea, and very in Vogue these days, soon the wheels will be larger than the cars they support, and I do like the way the doors function, allowing easier access, but judging from these renderings it resembles about 20 sport-utes on the road today.

I'd like to see a wider beefed up Mini like this with a twin Turbo 1.8 L and about 320 hp, a light weight (2800 lbs.) all-wheel-drive sport utility do it all Mini, a sleeper Mini that will eat 911's in the twisties :-), and carry the whole family most anywhere when needed.

Now that I've looked at the pictures for a while, I like it better. Make a hybrid that gets 55 to the gallon and I'll take it.

That is so ugly I have gone blind! I hope the production model is tamed down like the Clubman concept eventually was. Its not a Mini, its a miss-mashed mess.

I love the look of Mini's... Hope to get one soon, but this is disappointing to say the least. It's Mini-esque but the lights and side profile just dont look right... needs to be more like the current shape, smoothed out and beefed up...

it's...um...not very mini is it? it's not really good looking at all, either. why does MINI feel the need to make this?

I've been waiting for an AWD Mini for 3 years. Mini - - smaller is better, but AWD in any Mini shape would be wonderful. Bring it to market!

I'm not a fan. Yes, I love the fact that MINI has been successful and is providing thousands of jobs for us Brits. I've also long been a fan of their parent company, BMW. But this looks like the illegitimate offspring of not just MINI and the aforementioned Infiniti, but the Skoda Roomster and Subaru Tribeca as well...
