Eye Candy: Nissan 260Z 2+2 from Ireland

|
Nissan 260Z 2+2 Tuning Now here's a good example of what to do when you want to beef up a classic sports car like the mid-1970s Nissan 260Z 2+2 without ruining its appearance by going overboard. The Irish owner of this sports coupe that goes by the alias Jay28 over at the Zclub forum carried out a few styling mods that include the addition of a front lip spoiler and wheel arches that house a nice set of 17-inch alloys wrapped in 235/40 tires up front and 255/40 at the rear end. -Continued

The 260Z 2+2 started life with a light blue shade (see photos below) but the owner decided to give it a new navy grey paint job. He also removed the rear bumper for a cleaner look and painted all the original chrome details in a flat black finish that bonds quite nicely with the exterior color. As you can see from the pictures, the result is a lip smacking 260Z worthy of a prize.

Very nice, the only thing I'm not thrilled with are the mirrors on the fenders, they may be functional and reminiscent of mirrors from 70s in Japan, but I don't think they do anything but detract from the beautiful flowing lines of this car. The lines of the two-seater were even better, Datsun borrowed from the designs of the Ferraris and Jaguars of the 50s and 60s.

My first car was a 1972 240Z that I bought in the mid-80s after high school, white with black interior I can still smell the vinyl. The hatchback was very convenient with enough space for a couple of large speakers and a small bar. :-) Believe it or not there's enough room to have sex in these cars, personally I prefer the back seat of a 72 Caddy with the power bench seat, but the Datsun will do it a pinch. :-)

In stock trim it was one of the best handling cars I've owned, and after a few suspension, strut and bushing modifications, it was even better. I love the look of this 260 with the wide wheels and a lot of meat. These cars are so light that this much tire gives you a serious traction advantage.

There really is no comparison between these nimble early 2+2's and say a 1987 300ZX 2+2, that I also had, which was a quite good and reliable car but was also an enormously heavy tank, weighing over 4000 pounds. Good in an accident, but not much get up and go with only 160 hp.

Good job on the car Dude.

I had a 240z 2-seater at the end of my high school yrs, was as nice as this looks in the before pics. I had some fun times with that car. Again good job with the car.

I disagree with Aaron in regards to the mirrors. I think the entire vehicle is beautiful. Rarely do we see nicely redone older Zs.

The color that was chosen for the vehicle along with the black plastic used for the mirrors, barely make the mirrors seem as noticeable, than if the vehicle were kept in the stock blue color. I find it looks better than what appears to be a single mirror (on the passenger side) of the stock vehicle.

The only modern addition, I'd add, is to make the mirrors "motorized". After sometime, the fixed position it sits at, will become loose and move. The downside of motorized is that it will look vastly different and probably ruin the appearance of it.

In any event, extra props to this Z, as it looks far better than the 2009 Z.

Perhaps, Nissan will perform a retro retrieval, like much of its American competitors, like Ford (with its Mustang), Chevrolet (with its Camaro), and Dodge (with is Challenger) among the other Chrysler variant.

I own a 1974 260z 2+2. I`m putting a 304 v8 with a 5 speed box into it. I only hope it looks half as good.
