Before we get into any details let us start off by telling you that the Japanese domestic market (JDM) Odyssey minivan is a different model than the one sold in the States. What you see here is the forth-generation JDM Odyssey which will go on sale in Japan tomorrow, October 17 with Honda claiming that it will be able to push out around 4,000 units per month in the domestic market. The new 7-seater minivan's styling is apparently inspired from Honda's latest models and especially from the European market Accord Station Wagon (see here). -Continued
Available in both AWD and FWD variants, the Odyssey is offered exclusively with a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that can be hooked up to either a 5-speed automatic transmission or a CVT gearbox. According to Honda, the Odyssey achieves an average fuel consumption in the Japanese combined cycle of 13,2 km /lt which translates to an overly optimistic 7,6 lt/100 km or 31-mpg.

Honda would do well to sell this in the States as an Acura with SH-AWD and the turbo unit from the RDX or the TSX's engine. It would sell like hot cakes for 45 grand...more than an Odyssey (big and fat) less than a MDX (too manish).
I agree totally, this would give Acura a nice addition to their line. VDX SH-AWD anyone?
hideous
I live in Japan, have driven an Odyssey Absolute for over 6 years. This car is simply awesome!
Not a single solitary problem in 6 years of everyday driving!
Also, I wish people would stop whining about this car NOT going to the USA! IT IS!
Don't read the blogs made outside of Japan if you want info on what is happening IN Japan! This car is due to be shipped to the US in 2009.
Will I be buying one? I'm considering it, but apart from the goodies, and the interior, there's really not much difference between this new model and my current one. And I'm more than happy with my current car. My friend who drives a BMW (honestly - who needs such an inefficient fuel guzzler in Japan?) has had nothing but problems with his car since day one. Honda may not be the creme de la crop of car manufacturers, but they certainly know how to make good, solid, long-lasting vehicles!
What is going on at Honda?? There latest works have been very very close to the border of HIDEOUS! This design is all over the place! What a mess! Its hard to believe they make these and nobody at Honda says... " hold on a sec, this is pretty ugly actually..."
I have the 2 different previous Odyssey, code name RA1 and RB1, it look much better than this new model, I would not change to this ugly one this time....Im glad I have the RB1...hideousssss look this new one....the designer have too far this time...yukkkk
is it coming to Europe? What is its size (length)? Thanks!
this csr look hot
Well it's 2009 (almost July) and Honda still hasn't premiered this new Odyssey in the U.S. I've talked to several dealerships and they say they don't think it will be coming here. I'm so disappointed because this is a much more attractive and sporty minivan/mpv than the current American version of Odyssey. I'm guessing the poster who said it was coming to states this year was wrong.
