2010 Mazda3 Sedan: The Rejected Design Proposals

|
Rarely do automakers disclose redundant design proposals for a vehicle that has just been introduced to the public like the all-new 2010 Mazda3 Sedan (click here for our high-res image gallery and here for the video). But it appears that Mazda's people are so confident with the outcome that the Japanese company decided to publish a selection of rejected sketches for its new compact sedan that premiered less than a week ago at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.

If these proposals are indeed the designs that made it to the final round, we reckon that Mazda's execs made the right choice. Click through to see what other designs had been considered for the new Mazda3 Sedan along with photos of clay models and sketches of the actual production model.

i can see why they chose that design, the others were just ugly, except for the free hand marker sketches.

Japanese design everything in such a cartoonish way. There's no finese, just curves and sharps cutoffs ending with a over wrought face. Corny.

The Mazdaspeed 3 looks hideous. Cars with grins belong in cartoons. C'mon Japan.
