That the hatchback version of the brand-new Mazda3 would be unveiled at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy this December is something we've known and shared with you, our readers, since mid-summer. Nevertheless, we can now inform you that it is official as the Japanese automaker has just sent invitations to the members of the European media for an exclusive preview of the new Mazda3 5door. The presentation will take place in the city of Bologna on December 2, ahead of the motorshow's first press day on the 3rd of the month.
The hatchback variant of the Mazda3 that is called Axela in Japan will follow the debut of the 4door Sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19. Feel free to check out the first photos of the Mazda3 sedan by clicking here and a set of designs depicting the hatchback version that were filed by Mazda at the European trademark agency by clicking here.

And we all know it looks NOTHING like the toy picture displayed above.
And you know that from....
Actually, that "toy" picture which you dont believe will look anything like the real Mazda3 5-Door came out about 1 year ago and I too thought it was hideous - and likely a fake. However, if you look at it and then look at the released photos of the Mazda3 4-Door just a few weeks back, you'd be amazed at the similarity of the front end (fog light housing, cat's eye headlights, grille, side mirrors, hoodlines, hood ornament, etc). Clearly this primative 3D render of the Mazda hatch is DAMN close to the proposed Mazda3!
So you nay sayers out there who think its phoney, I actually think this could have been a primative "off-the-drawing board" image of the new hatch. I just hope that with some color and better perspective it'll actually look decent.
