Official images of the forthcoming 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class have been leaked onto the internet ahead of the luxury sedan's planned debut in 2009. Known internally by its W212 chassis moniker, the new mid-size executive sedan from Mercedes-Benz adopts a more angular styling which tries to evoke the robustness of the mid-1980s - early-1990s E-Class range. Judging by these photos, we reckon that Merc's designers did it in a much less classy way, but we'll have to wait to see the sedan in real life for a safer verdict.
There are no official details concern the car, but according to our sources, the new E-Class will boast an updated engine line-up with several new and revised gasoline and Bluetec diesel powerplants including a base 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit and Merc's new 204 HP 2.2-liter turbo diesel. Furthermore, the German firm will enhance its BMW 5-Series rival with a range-topping AMG variant equipped with a slightly tweaked version of the current model's 6.2-liter V8 engine producing close to 550HP as well as diesel-hybrid and petrol-hybrid versions.
Later on in the year, Mercedes-Benz will present a more practical Estate version along with a Coupe model that will replace today's CLK. The latter will be heavily inspired from the Paris Motor Show ConceptFascination study.

Mercedes E-Class - Korean Version
There's really nothing memorable about it. And why do they insist on giving it the same 6.2-liter V8 they gave it last time, for goodness sake, the C63 has it and it's almost half the price of the outgoing E63. You think that they'd up their game with the E-class AMG and give it something with a little but more oomph, but I guess not.
While Mercedes has gone back to a more classical and (to me) appealing body shape, what's with the detailing? The split rectangular headlamp looks so Japanese recent-passe. The tail lamps, while not offensive, don't identify the car as a Merc. While Mercedes quality is currently being mended, they seem to have also lost that design language that identifies their cars from afar. Maybe they should go back to having ribbed tail lamps. Anyhow, they made their name in decades past through faultless engineering combined with understated elegance. Besides working on reliability, they should really ensure a fully coherent design overall for their products. Audi's managed to to do this very well. Good looks do help sell cars.
I would say that 550hp's is "a little more oomph" than the C63 AMG's 450hp version of the engine.
Besides the engine, the 2010 E looks very ordinary... reminds me of early 90's Japanese sedans.
The Lexus GS headlights came into the party 3 years too late MB. The rear deck is far too long with Hyundai Sonata rectangular rear lights. An unbelievably boring, derivative and ugly E class.
Jenny your mistaking Merc for a car company that has had an original thought in the last 10 years :) the term "coach builder" comes to mind when ever someone mentions mercs to me now. Even Jag is starting on clean sheet drawings. While Merc just pump out the same thing for the last 10 years.
Front looks like a cross between the current GS series and Genesis sedan. Don't like the way the side droops down like that but not as bad as the Nissan Quest.
Looks more like a Chinese copy of an E-class
Jenny: What are you talking about? The C63's got almost 100 horses less than the upcoming E63. That's one difference.
You are additionally aware of the fact that the E is larger and provides *just a tiny* bit more space?
what a butyfull car.
really, mercedes give ud cars that combine sport and luxury- in the best way!!!
boring design as usual with e-class
no.. the E class during year 1990s was very nice.
it looks very cute
it is ugly as it has the one big and one small headlights on each side. in the first place they shouldn't have introduced the big and small round headlights at all.
they should have kept it at the rectangular one like the 1990s model.
they just had to touch up the round headlights and become like this today.
So it appears that I'm not the only one who thinks that the headlights were nicked off the Lexus GS
it's a nice car.
It's a fugly car.
The front is only just aesthetically OK. The back looks like an Hyundai's butt. It looks conspicuously like a Hyundai's rear lights.
it doesnt have the classy looks a mercedes should have anymore...
it has a b class rear light slapped to a nissan butt!
Mercedes designers should commit hari-kiri for blatantly ripping off the Lexus GS headlamp designs.
ummm...no. its either audi or bmw now.
What's with the column shift in so many Mercedes models?
Headlights are really "stolen" from the lexus GS!!
This is un-benz-like. C'mon!
This design brings the E into the same design theme as the S and C. The comment regarding MB quality is puzzling. Having driven many Benzes , spanning the entire model range, and currently owning two, I have not seen any quality problems. My S has 104,000 miles on it and has been trouble free, as well as having a
ride comfort that passengers marvel at. They are amazed at the mileage when told. I look forward to adding the new E to my stable.
I think lexus is the one who stole the 4 lamps head-light idea from MB since E class 1997. They just change it into something different so they won't look like a crap thief. Thrust me if MB have to copy something, they won't copy anything from Lexus. This is the car MB show Lexus how to do with the 4 lamps idea, not just copy for sell.
A really beutifully car! A real Mercedes-Benz! Remember, the japaneese are stealing good ideas from Daimler Benz all the time. This will be the Car of 2009! I will order one for sure!!!
This car will be a hit with the Mercedes clientele, I am loyal to the brand looks modern and yet still a Mercedes.
No thanks.. I'll take the Lexus.
I remember when Mercedes and BMW introduced their new designs in the late 90's early 00's and people were commenting on how "ugly" they were...now every car copied them. Here we are 10 years later and people are doing the same thing. Mercedes made a smart move to go back to the 80's because to this day you will see at least 2 or more 80's model Mercedes on the road. Can't say the same about any other car make. I will be the first to buy this model Mercedes, it is analytically a classic!
