These are the first official photographs of Jaguar's long-awaited XFR sports sedan that is due to make its worldwide debut at this week's Detroit motor show. Aimed squarely at the BMW M5, Audi RS6 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, this wild cat comes with a supercharged V8 engine delivering 510HP and a more aggressive design in and out with details that hint but do not shout at the car's performance.
At the heart of the new XFR we find an all new 5.0-litre AJ-V8 Gen III engine fitted with a sixth-generation, Roots-type twin vortex system (TVS) supercharger. It produces an output of 510HP between 6,000-6,500 rpm and 625Nm (461 lb.ft) of torque from 2,500-5,500 rpm. Compared to its supercharged 4.2-litre V8 predecessor, power has increased by 23 percent and torque has increased by 12 percent.
Power is transmitted to the rear-wheels through an enhanced version of Jaguar's electronically controlled, six-speed transmission. Additional clutch plates and an uprated torque converter have been added to facilitate the extra power.
The result is that the new XFR has a 0-60mph sprint time of just 4.7 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds) while acceleration from 50-70mph is completed in just 1.9 seconds. The XFR runs the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). As for the XFR's fuel economy, Jaguar gives an official combined fuel economy figure of 22.5mpg UK (18.8mpg US or 12.5l/100km).
Aside from the supercharged V8, Jaguar's engineers have enhanced the XFR with Active Differential Control and Adaptive Dynamics. The electronically controlled differential and suspension system work together to optimize traction under acceleration and cornering. The XFR also adds a faster steering ratio and uses larger ventilated disc brakes.
Moving on to the car's design, while recognizable as a performance version of the XF, Jaguar's designers -rightfully in our opinion- avoided embellishing the model with an exaggerated bodykit. The result is a car that balances between sporty and sleek.
Compared to the standard XF, the new XFR gains a revised snout with a larger lower grille with black-finished mesh, plus chrome outboard air intakes. The upper mesh grille retains XF's bright finish, while the bonnet carries distinctive louvres, similar to those found on the XKR sports car. The XFR also features new sill extensions, while the rear bumper adds a unique body-coloured lower valance panel incorporating the 'R' signature of four large, bright-finished tail pipes. The new bootlid spoiler, the redesigned exterior mirrors with LED side repeaters and the 20-inch Nevis alloy wheels complete the changes.
Inside, Jaguar adorned the XFR's dashboard with a dark mesh aluminum finish trim, New 18x14-way adjustable sports seats embossed with the 'R' logo while the the speedometer and tachometer gain red dial pointers and carry the 'Supercharged' motif. The XFR will come with a full soft grain leather interior as standard.
Jaguar will offer the new XFR with a select palette of just eight exterior colors: Ultimate Black, Indigo, Liquid Silver, Lunar Grey, Porcelain, Botanical Green, Kyanite Blue and Salsa.

That's kind of the idea behind a special-edition version of a car, make it stand out, of course there's going to be extra chrome and bits in certain places, but so what? It's got 500hp for crying out loud.

Be very afraid when this pulls up behind you. The acceleration figures are pretty conservative, reckon that it'll do 0-62 between 4.5 - 4.7 easily..

Too much chrome? You haven't got a clue what you are talking about. This car was designed by Ian Callum who also designed the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB9. I'm Irish and I despise the English but they have made some absolutely stunning saloons over the years unlike the Americans (1990's Caddilac's that look like coffins haha!)

Chintzy? Ford Taurus? I think not. This is one seriously cool ride with the pedigree to back up the figures. All Jaguar needs to do now is ditch the X Type and stick with a niche model line (no SUVs please) and they'll be unbeatable.
The fool who says it looks like a "hopped-up Taurus" obviously hasn't seen the XF in the metal. It's a completely stunning car with great proportions and beautiful detailing.
Like the way they didn't go overboard with the styling. Jaguar R cars have always been about a muscled gentleman in a sharp, tailored suit. This XF-R achieves that balance.

Anonymous, my neighbor has an XF, and yes I've looked at it, and yes I still believe it to be a Taurus. The only thing to be afraid of from this car is the gas bill! Other than that it does not look the luxury part for its social/economic group; so many better alternatives for the money. Jaguar never made the comeback it has been looking for.
In response to the guy who thinks that his neighbor's XF looks like a Taurus, what can I say? Do I detect a little bit of envy playing out here? The sales figures prove that there are enough buyers out there (with the means)who are voting for the Xf with their cheque books.
The guy complaining about the XF looking like a Taurus should just realize that this is a very desirable car that is lauded in the press in the US, Europe and worldwide, as well as by buyers the world over. The XF looks like many cars, and the Taurus certainly isn't one - it's more Aston than Jaguar in my eyes.
I suggest you get in your Camcord/Maxima etc and praise the fuel economy cos your criticism is totally misplaced. There's a car for every season, and people in the market for cars like the XFR, M5, RS6 or E63 AMG ain't gonna bother about fuel economy, not that ANY of these cars are gonna be fuel efficient by any measure. In any case, if you want good fuel economy get the XF-S 3.0 V6 Diesel with 275 hp, does 0-60 in 5.9s and gets 42 mpg.
I suggest you get the wool out of your eyes and realize that the XF as a car that is at least as competitive, if not better, than much of its competition.
This thread cracks me up. One loser, who thinks that "his neighbour's" XF looks like the Taurus, spilling rubbish about it not being fuel economical. If you can't afford the gas bills on the XFR, then this car certainly isn't for your market demographic. It's for people in the market for fast, powerful execs like the Mercedes E63, Audi RS6 or BMW M5.

Yah I suppose one of the alternatives are the Toyota Prius then. Come on, just because you can't afford the XFR doesn't mean no one else can. It's a brilliant car for the money, probably costs less than the equivalent German.
Taurus man is either jealous of his neighbour's XF or unhappy that Jaguar, which has been failing for years comes up with a superb car. Putting forward spurious arguments liken complaining about gas bills (get a Hybrid Prius or Insight if you want that) and likening it to a car it does not resemble does not change the XF's successes. Perhaps get your driving licence first before looking like a blithering idiot?
I've been on the lot looking at the XF in person. It has very good lines. No strange curves or bumps, just sleek and beautifully simple. The interior looks very attractive too. Has anyone seen the interior in the new MB C class? Yuck! Looks like a nissan sentra with cheap plastic everywhere and not at all luxurious. But Jaguar engineers seem to know how to do just the opposite of that. They make the interior look like quality and style. It really is a nice car. Personally though, I'd go for the XK. That one is still my fav! And I agree with the individual who said they should ditch the X type. Get rid of the cheap crap "poor mans Jag" and stick to the high end luxury they've always done. It's okay to be a high end brand. You don't have to offer a cheap model. From what I have heard, Xtype is on its way out of production.

I'm English and I don't have the slightest problem with the Irish I never have and never will, I haven't got a clue what I'm talking about.... erm. sorry I didn't know personal preference was disallowed!? Personally, this car is my holy grail of cars at the moment, A it's a Jag, B its a black one, C its the 'R' almighty godfather of saloon cars now and D it's sensational looking.
but I still think there is too much chrome. just the front lower grilles and the window surrounds if they were body coloured the car is PERFECT. The old XJ sport came nearly fully dechromed (I know I had a 98 black one!) but not totally dechromed the grill was still chrome and so were the corner tops of the front and rear bumpers. it was just enough in my mind.
Well, Aston-Martin is the stylish brute....and is quite unapologetic about it.
But, this Jaguar is one cat of a car....looks smooth , nimble and apparently skillful
