In about a week's time, Mercedes plans to lift the wraps on its next-generation E-Class. However, thanks to an internal leak in December when three exterior photos found their way into the internet and a new leakage that occurred today and concerns the official German market brochure, there won't be much to talk about when Merc unveils the 2010 E-Class, known internally under the codename W212. Aside from the new exterior pictures, the brochure scans reveal the executive sedan's squared-shapes interior as well as the E-Class' full engine line-up and dimensions.
Following in the footsteps of the C-Class and more recently the GLK, the new E-Class exterior gets taut body surfacing and angular design elements such as the four diamond shape headlamps up front. Same goes for the interior, though in a less tacky way than the GLK's cabin which looks like it was built from bricks. Apparently, Merc's designers are trying -we not saying that that they succeeded- to evoke the robustness of the mid 1980s E-Class.
Not surprisingly, Mercedes-Benz's BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 rival has slightly grown in dimensions compared to the outgoing E-Class, measuring 4.868 mm in length (+12 mm), 1.854 mm in width (+32 mm) and 1.470 mm in height (-13 mm) with a wheelbase of 2.874 mm (+20 mm).
Powering the new E-Class is an updated range of diesel and gasoline engines. Diesel lovers will be able to choose from five different units: a new 2.1-liter 4-cylinder engine with 136, 170 and 204 HP and a 3.0-liter V6 with 231HP (BlueEFFICIENCY) and 211HP (BLUETEC).
Those who favor petrol can select between five different engine options: a 1.8-liter direct injection 4-cylinder with 184 and 204HP; a 3.5-liter V6 (for the 4MATIC model) delivering 272HP; a 3.5-liter direct injection V6 producing 292HP and at the top of the range, a 388HP 5.5-liter V8 that can be combined with RWD or AWD layout.
During the year, Mercedes plans to enrich its E-Class range with the introduction of the Estate (station-wagon) and Coupe models while in 2010 - 2011, the German automaker will add a hybrid version(s) and an AMG model aimed squarely at the BMW M5 featuring a 6.2-liter V8 engine that should be good for around 550-horsepower.

four fog lights?
two fogs and two turning lights (when indicators turn on)
I'm gonna get some stick for this, but to me it just looks more like a fairly extensive facelift than a full on new model. Anybody else with me? it just looks too much like the previous model...
remind me brabus style
Boring exterior colors! No red, no yellow ...
;-)
Looks a mix of the current model and the CLS. Not bad though, and sure to look good in the flesh
Nah, dont like the look of it at all. A retrograde step! Makes the new Fords seem all the more funky, BMW's latest designs seem even more fresh and Audis all the more gorgeous and sporty. Mercedes need to take a leaf out of Mazda's styling book. Mazda has the most attractively and cohesively styled range around. The Mazda 6 is a stunner!
i agree with the mazda line-up, there's no real minger in their designs, where this merc is just the same thing again and looking even more hideous than before
I also agree with the comment on Mazda (all nice, except the Tribute). MB is trying really over the top and its designs appear as collages of different car parts glued together without much sense - I personally prefer the clean lines of Audi and Lexus - Infiniti and Acura are jumping on the over-done-gimmicky bandwagon also... too bad. This E-class goes in the wrong direction styling-wise: copying details BMW is already abandoning, using an old-style hood design closure (following the C-class)... and don't even mention the interior... with that army of buttons.... and where's the gearshift? they didn't learn from what happened to BMW?
I cant say I like it.. If they were going for an 80's looking car , they nailed it... It really looks like one of those Chinese knock off designs.. It may look better in the flesh, but the pics look all out of proportion....
Looks like some kind of new Korean sedan. The front is good at least has identity. If you remove the badge from the rear you may say its a Hyundai. May look better in flesh but still pretty confusing mixture of design.
mein gerlfrent she has big totos n given 2 me harddon but she isn likin thes auto
It looks really boring to me. I'm a current MB owner and my car is listed for sale right now. I'm looking for something different because I feel like MB has been a little dull in styling, and also EVERYONE on earth has one. MB isn't special anymore. Every other car on the road is a Mercedes. The brand has lost it's prestige in my opinion.
It would be nice if in the USA we could get a wagon, with a Blue Tec and 4 matic and maybe even a shift car also...
But I know I dreaming, maybe not!
The side of the new E reminds me of a Honda Accord. Will have to see in the flesh before deciding if it is truly "all new" or a makeover of the current generation.
