General Motors may have officially kept a lid on the Chevy Beat up until now, but the firm's Chief Designer Ed Welburn not only confirmed that the new minicar will make its world debut at this week's 2009 Detroit auto show, but he also gave us an 'up-skirt' view of the model during a live interview with Matt Lauer from NBC's Today Show. The Beat was previewed in concept form along with two more prototypes at the 2007 New York Auto Show. Watch the video right after the jump.

What in the world is it with Ford and Chevrolet putting their biggest headlights they make on their smallest cars!?!At Chrysler got it right with the Hornet concept and put on headlamps that didn't weigh 600 pounds a piece...

I also agree with rs2. US car companies need to start pushing design and technology ahead of their competitors. If you fail, you fail! The marketplace will sort out the winners. That's what capitalism is all about.
