2010 Audi A5 SportbackWhile 'das' Germans at Audi are playing hide and seek with the new A5 Sportback releasing only one cryptic teaser shot of the five-door coupe, a member of the Audi enthusiast forum at Fourtitude captured the sleek-looking sports sedan during a photo shoot on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. The pictures aren't of the best quality but they clearly outline the shape of the A5 Sportback that is set to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall.

2010 Audi A5 SportbackEven though the front-end of the car is masked in the photos, it is evident that the styling will be similar if not identical, to the A5 Coupe. From the B-pillar and back, the Sportback gets its own unique styling highlighted by the swoopy roofline.

When the A5 Sportback goes on sale thorough Europe this September, it will be available with two gasoline and three diesel engines with prices in Germany set to start from €36,050. For the full Monty on Audi's sport sedan click here to read our detailed report.

It looks like a huge winner. With this addition, one could argue that Audi is far surpassing BMW in the design department and rising to the top overall.

I think it's a stupid game the automakers are playing.
They build an Audi A4, Audi A6 as 4 doors sedan. Then they build an Audi A5 as a coupé. Till here everything works out well.
But now the start with a Audi A5 sedan?! That's just stupid. Cause they believe, that they will gain many customers from other brands. But they will not. They will just take some A6 and A4 buyers to buy the A5 sedan. It's a canibalismus inside the brand.
What Mercedes did was different. They hat the C-Class and the E-Class and they had the CLK Coupé. So far same story as Audi. But in comparison with the CLS which is a four door coupé of the E-Class but has designly nothing to do with the E-Class they created a new genre of a car. But for sure, many buyers of the E-Class changed to the CLS also. But what Mercedes did not do is making a four door CLK. That would have been pointless...
But I think this is what Audi makes...

If I like the A5 coupé and I buy it, then it is also for sure because of prestige reasons...I want to drive a car that is special and different to so many A4 and A6.
But when I buy the A5 Coupé and see some A5 sedans rolling through the street...I would be really angry and would like to sell the car. Cause it won't be a special one.

Typical VAG stuff here. Take a car (A5, golf, passat,...) modify it a bit, give it another name and market it as another model. They get away with it shamelessly because the masses are falling for it.

This is a nice car. I like AUDIs and I like the way they look overall. The new A4 is nice, but not from all angles. And the A6 refresh is not bad, but still not quite there. This A5 coupe is the answer for those who want more style form their AUDI. I think the A5 coupe is very nicely designed, the convertible even nicer (comfortable room for 4 adults) and the manual transmission offerings are good.
Imagine an A5 sportback with the S line package and a 6 speed manual...that's sexy.

Andrew, honestly, you have horrible taste in cars.

The 5-GT, the A5 SportBack. You're probably fanning yourself over the ZDX and the CLS.
