Today, Hyundai swiped the wraps off its mildly facelifted 2010 Santa Fe in South Korea ahead of the compact SUV's domestic market launch in July. The reworked 2010 model features some modest cosmetic changes along with the introduction of a new pair of turbo diesel engines. On the outside, changes seem to be reduced to a lightly altered front end with a redesigned bumper and grille, reshaped exterior mirrors with turning signals and new alloy wheel designs.

There's also talk about a newly designed rear bumper and tail lights along with an updated interior but we've yet to see the full image gallery or an official press release for that matter.

The South Korean news agencies also reported that the 2010 Santa Fe benefits from the introduction of the Hyundai - Kia group's newly developed 'R' diesel engine lineup that consists of two 4-cylinder units with a displacement of 2.0-liters and 2.2-liters and outputs of 184HP / 392Nm and 200HP /436Nm respectively. Both engines are linked to a new 6-speed automatic transmission.

The European version of the facelifted Santa Fe will most likely make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September with the North American variant following shortly after.

Well, if Hyundai ever decided to bring Americans the diesel option, that might actually give me a reason to buy one. But without a diesel and a manual transmission, I'm not the least bit interested. With a diesel and manual transmission, all of a sudden the Santa Fe would be #1 on my list.

Body color grill? It's an abonination.

Not only a step back 10 years, a step back 10 years, picking probably the cheapest economy car style there was. I hope they change this. Looks worse on the lighter color cars.

Put diesel in Genesis and I'll buy one. Santa Fe - maybe.

Nice looking SUV. Somewhat resembles my ML. Needs a diesel engine. 5 star safety specs, better than Highlander's 4 star for passenger. Both need rear SIDE air bags as the ML and Q7/Q5 have.

We sat in a 2009 Sanata Fe and wife loved it over the Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4. Hope the 2010 Santa Fe come out before the Nov 1 C.A.R.S. (cash for clunkers) program ends. The higher MPH of the new 4 cyl will lets us get the $4500 gov. discount. The postion of the jack should be moved to a side panel.

I agree that the color-matched grill looks very cheasy. Based on this facelift, they should have "left well-enough alone."

happy as the owner of a previous model V6 -
it's not about the looks for me - it's all about what it will tow economically - bring on the 2.2 x 6 speed diesel motor - can't wait.

Hope the 6 speed gear box is better than the 5.. Love my diesel elite, but the 5 speed gear is really bad... Also hopefully better audio with Bluetooth car kit etc too..
