Making its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show today, the production version of the original LF-A concept, which has been renamed to LFA, is Lexus' first-ever supercar and it will go on sale at the end of 2010. The Ferrari-fighting supercar is powered by a front-mounted, purpose built 4.8-liter V10 engine that cranks out 553HP (560PS) at 8,700 rpm and 480Nm or 354 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm, with 90% of its peak torque available between 3,700rpm and 9,000rpm.

The all-new compact-sized V10 engine that is said to be smaller than a conventional V8, sends power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automated sequential gearbox that features four selectable driving modes and a seven-stage shift-speed selector that results in upshift speeds down to 0.2 seconds.

The Japanese maker claims a 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h or 202 mph for the LFA.

Just like many other top-notch supercars such as the Ferrari Enzo, the chassis and body of the LFA are made largely of carbon-fiber composite. In accordance to Lexus, the 4,505mm long car weighs 1,480kg or 3,263 pounds with a front-to-rear weight distribution of 48:52. For the record, the Enzo weighed in at 1,365kg or 3,009 lbs.

The LFA's suspension comprises of double wishbones at the front and a multilink arrangement at the back. Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

Lexus has already began accepting orders for the LFA with first deliveries expected to take place towards the end of 2010. Production of the base model will be strictly limited to 500 units with preliminary pricing set at $375,000 (around €250,000).

In the beginning of 2012, Lexus will also launch two special versions of the LFA, including one with unique color(s) and a more track-focused model.

Is a car like that really relevent for the Lexus brand? The price puts it in amongst classic brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Aston Martin. Honda NSX or Audi R8 it isnt either. That said, it is a very unique car.

Doesn't anybody else see this car looking like a really supped up asian import car? very much something that should be in the next fast and furious maybe? Just like with all those rice rockets (and not bein racist, half asian myself), you do not have a supercar by throwing a big engine and lightening up every component (not too mention the bodykit)…

Now do not get me wrong, this thing is powerful, and will be more than impressive with its speed, etc, but i'll bet that when you put this car beside an enzo, murciélago (superveloce wow), or carer GT, and it'll obvious that this is not even close to being their league… each of these supercars was designed holistically, something you can tell does not look like it was the case here. The LFA looks like the designers at Lexus moderned up the OLD sc400, and then went through last months Import car magazines and chose all the parts out of the back. (although you could argue that the superveloce has its own set of go faster bits bolted on, look at the original murciélago and you still have a masterpiece in comparison)

Maybe if this was branded as a toyota it would be acceptable, much as the Nissan GT-R is forgiven the fact that it obviously was designed for function over form - if that car had been an infiniti, there's no way the public or the press would accept that egalitarian of a look. (Infinity essence anyone?)

this thing is just ugly. A win as a Toyota, but as a Lexus, and as a real supercar, epic fail.

Paul to answer you first question, look at this:

Sorry, but they got the wrong engine in the car. The era of forced induction has just begun and they put out a naturally aspirated engine with such a low torque. The next twin-turbo V8 M6 will destroy this car at half the price.

i can buy 3 GT-Rs before i can even reach the price of this!

I'm getting the feeling Honda will blow this away price wise with their upcoming 2011 Honda NSX with a 5.5L V10.

Love it but couldn't they have just dialed it back a little and price it between the Vette and a 911?

  11. Anonymous » October 21, 2009

Ok, I could buy a Nissan GTR, a Porsche 911 Turbo and an Aston Martin for the price of this car.

    Nissan GTR= out-accelerate an LFA
    Porsche 911= out-handle an LFA
    Aston Martin= out-class and LFA

It sounds like the worlds largest auto manufacturer is trying to get all the money it dumped into this project over the past decade.

They should stick to old people couch mover cars. It's only thing they know how to do well anymore.

The car looks mean, but holy smoke at the price???

who want want this LFA over a pagani zonda?

my God... After all those fantastic concepts, they delivered this!!!
If I would be an owner of this car I would approach it only from behind, where it looks a bit like the LFA it was supposed to be, the sides and interior are well done, but the nose it has is tragic. I don't know which bastard ruins design of latest Lexus models, but this is clearly a mistake design wise.
An explanation I see here is that the new LFA front resembles... Toyota FT86! Way to go - ruining design of a top-class car to help sales of a cheaper, much more elegant one. Take a look at LFA roadster for the front end this car should have.

Besides where did they put elegant simplicity in this car??? That is Lexus design philosophy (Lfinesse) they are killing. Awful, I feel sorry for Lexus under current designers - a few years back I was stunned by the quality of Lexus design (LS600, IS350), but now it is all downhill with last RX and this mutant poping up.

As for price, it is fine for what this car is supposed to be - exclusive limited edition image builder.

What a beautiful car.It kinda looks like the mkiv supra from the side. But imo,I think I can find a better car for that price.

I've just realised why it's gonna be so expensive............ Think about the Veryon, Bugatti makes a huge loss for each one sold.

I'd say this is probably pricest to reflect all the development and tooling costs without making a loss and it was a board room decision that was pushed forward by someone from the development team desparate to see their car produced.

Think how close this project was to being canned at one stage.

It makes sense that it is so pricey, Lexus does not want to sell lots.

I for one really like the car and I feel sorry for the developers who probably started before the big economy slide begun...........

Just my opinion, shoot me down in flames if you will.
