Although Volkswagen's design studio would be your best bet to get a glimpse of a future model like the seventh-generation Golf, an official video would be the last place you'd expect to actually see it. But as we all know, gaffes happen all the time. Such is the case with the Golf VII as what appears to be a full-size clay mock-up of the compact hatchback was spotted on the promotional film for the Frankfurt Show L1 concept car.
The clay model, which we believe shows a possible design direction for the next Golf seemingly inspired by the firm's latest models such as the Scirocco (notice the more pointy nose-job and the more narrow headlamps), can be seen in the background at 4:41 minutes into the video.
We had stored the original promotional video of the L1 Concept on our computer during the Frankfurt Motorshow days, but just for the heck of it, we headed over to VW's official press site to download the specific video again.
But guess what; the scene with the clay model of what we and many others reckon is a design proposal for the VW Golf VII, has been chopped and cropped in this version! If anything else, that should count for something...

Being sloppy and being too late to catch themselves!
probably is an alternative proposal for the current Golf VI since they probably worked on both around the same time... durrrrrrrr
I hope that isn't the next Mark 7 Golf...
If you thought Toyota design was bad, this will take the prize!
I don't why they have to come out with a new golf almost every day????
I personally really like the current Golf VI.
If that clay Golf VII is any indication, the front sort of mimics the current Mitsu Lancer's schnoz.
This apparent "slip-up" is no mistake. Volkswagen is far too professional (and German*) to make basic mistakes like that. In fact, all of the leading car companies are exceptionally good at protecting the secrecy of future new models. This was a deliberate ploy to reveal one of the various proposals under consideration. Now that little point is cleared-up, what of the shape? Personally, I like it, but then as someone who has owned Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk 3 and Mk V Golfs, I would say that. VW knows what people like me want. Which is why the front end is a nice evolutionary progression from the Mk 6. Yet it is cleaner and more cohesive. It also seems more curvaceous with less sharp creases. I like that too. It still has a typically strong Volkswagen C-pillar which makes it instantly recognisable as a Golf. All in all, it's shaping-up nicely, Walter. Keep up the good work.

Well as my wife says
"Zhere ist nussing wrong wist zer Germans except for zer rutt they can't get out of ja!"
She's probably got a point - she married one, if only the diffent VW models at least look a little different.
