SEMA Preview: Pontiac Trans Am Concept Based on 2010 Camaro

|
You didn't think that 'Trans Am Depot' was the only tuner trying to make a screaming chicken out of the new Chevy Camaro Coupe, did you? Get ready to give a big warm mullet welcome to Lingenfelter's Pontiac Trans Am concept model at next month's SEMA gathering in Las Vegas. Based on the 2010 Camaro, the 455 TA is stylistically inspired by the 1971 Pontiac Trans Am and comes equipped with a 455 cubic inch (that's 7.5-liters) V8 pushing out a hefty 655 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of peak torque.

The teaser renderings provide us with our first look at the 455 TA's appearance that adds a newly styled fascia and rear end along with 20-inch custom honeycomb style wheels shod in beefy tires, a hood scoop, side air vents and a sweet duck-tail spoiler to the 2010 Camaro.

Lingenfelter says that 455 TA will also feature a custom interior, which we gather will hark back to the original Pontiac Trans Am.

Although the vehicle is billed as a concept for now, we're pretty sure that if there's enough interest in the car, Lingenfelter will go ahead and offer the Camaro-based 455 TA for sale.

The only GM company that I ever had respect for was Pontiac and the 2002 Pontiac Firebird with the WS6 package was my favorite car!

Are they going to throw the Pontiac badge on there, or what? + I'm kind of tired of throwbacks. I'd have liked to see the G8's frontal design carried on in some shape to the Camaro body. I believe, personally, that the G8 looked the best out of all the badges of the Holden VE Commodore (Lumina/etc), and was quite iconic.

That said, the design is very passive.

Absolutely Love it, I owned a 70 just like it and I would defienetly want one of these. Go for it, knock em dead!

Why do they keep using early 70s Trans Ams as reference for these TA conversions? The new Camaro is based on the 68 Camaro so the Trans Am should be based on the 68 Firebird. Mixing up the eras doesnt look nearly as good as this car could look if they based it on the correct generation. I dont know if there was a TA package in 68, but the only Firebird conversion body kit that I would get would be based on a 68 or 69 Firebird.

Kevin Morgan's Concept car is much better going off the 77/78 body styles but this car is going off the 70 TA and it looks great, I think this is the dirrection for TA to switch up in years and not run along the same year models as the camaro to give a distinct difference in taste and create a separation. These cars will be a big hit once the auto industry is back on its feet

I would buy one of those, hands down, if they are made, and I haven't said that about any car for a long time.

I have a 1974 firebird but with the earlier 70 to 73 bullnose on it. I love it. If this is made, I'm gonna try and save the pennies and try my best to get one of these, its the business. Go for it, build it. I love it and I'm sure firebird owners alike will love this to. All the at the show.

I like it better than the Camaro, but I am not a big fan of the Camaro. I think the Challenger is best looking new car available. I do think that if they "refined" the front and back ends that it would be a sharp car. The wheels are ok, but that could be improved also.
