2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe: First Official Photos of GM's BMW 3-Series Coupe Rival

|
This here is the production version of Cadillac's 2008 CT Coupe Concept that will be revealed at next month's Los Angeles Auto Show. The first Cadillac coupe in almost two decades features a classic 2+2 seating layout and is slated to arrive in U.S. showrooms in the spring of 2010. The most obvious rivals for the 2011 CTS Coupe are the BMW 3-Series Coupe along with the new Audi A5 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and the Infiniti G37 Coupe.

The coupe has the same wheelbase as the CTS, but an overall height that is approximately two inches (51 mm) lower and an overall length that is two inches (51 mm) shorter.

According to Cadillac, even though the Coupe is based on the CTS sedan, it shares only the instrument panel, console, headlamps, front fenders and grille with four-door model.

At launch, the 2011 CTS Coupe will be offered with GM's direct injected 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 304 horsepower and offers an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 27 mpg on the highway.

The V6 engine is coupled to a standard 6-speed manual gearbox with an automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control and available steering wheel mounted shift buttons offered as an option. It will also come with rear- or all-wheel drive.

According to a previous announcement from GM, the CTS Coupe V6 will be joined in the near future by a range topping "V" model boasting the same 556-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 found on the CTS-V Sedan.

The CTS Coupe's hardware includes an independent short/long arm (SLA) front suspension system, with hydraulic control arm front bushings, and a multi-link rear suspension. Also included are four-wheel disc performance brakes, a limited-slip differential and GM's electronic chassis control system (StabiliTrak).

There are no pictures of the interior but Cadillac says that features include hand-sewn accents covering the door, center storage console and instrument panel trim as well as several techno goodies such as the 40GB hard drive, pop-up navigation system, rear camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

The option list will include a set of 14-way adjustable Recaro sport seats that were previously exclusively offered on Cadillac's V-Series model

We'll have more on the CTS Coupe at the LA Auto Show in December.

BMW 3-Series my arse. What a bloated excuse for a coupe. The exhaust tips look like squeezed anus ready to explode

One word: UGLY. No where near as beautiful the 3 series or the A5. Fail

Anonymous said... »November 23, 2009

Josh-# LOL, my thoughts exactly about the tail pipes. Overall, I'd say that the design looks very awkward. Side windows look too small

it looks fat = .= and ugly, looks like an SUV coupe wannabe Gm shud destroy the Cadilac brand and create a new one , like seriously u think of Cadilac = OLD people car's nothing can really change that cuz their designs ARE OLD

That rear-end is so poorly executed. An otherwise fantastic car that's sure to win over some new Cadillac fans, but it'll never be Cadillac's new bread and butter. They honestly should have stuck to making the XLR more appealing and updated. It might not have be as profitable as its rivals, but it sure beats sending this ugly-arse into an already crowded premium-coupe market.

The rear end is too 'high', makes it look like a hatchback instead of a coupe. And you can't have a coupe design with all 'straight' lines that a typical Cadillac has.

ugly³

The CT Coupe takes Cadillac's acclaimed Art and Science design language and adds more of both. More expressive, more technical and very personal, the CT Coupe extends the dramatic design of its sedan predecessor with all-new sculpted bodywork aft of the front fenders.

It looks like a hunchback! Reminds me a bit of when Toyota made those Liftbacks back when the Corolla had numerous body style. Overall it is an okay looking Caddy.

crap

Even if the CTS competed with the 3 (which it doesn't by physical compairson), I have to say that the CTS coupe hasn't tunred out quite like how I would have like it to look like.

The V of this had better change my opinion.

Thank God you guys think the same.....readers over at autoblog think it looks good...wow

that rear....tall!!! plus it look mor e like a stretched hatch than a coupe with those dimensions..

Not crazy about the tailight design. Too generic looking and compromised.
I think the customer that would shop this car would probably be in looking at the Infinit G37 coupe as well, not so much a 3-series.

I'll hold my opinion until I see it in person. The coupe that made the auto show circuit looked pretty nice. To me this offers a good alternative to the stale, business as usual BMW styling. Most Americans shopping this vehicle will still see a Cadillac as more prestigious than the G37. A friend of mine drove both Mercedes and Cadillacs and chose the CTS because she thought it was an all-around better car. Better, more interesting interior, steering and handling plus the advantage of AWD. She's been extremely happy with it. Audi has a good cult following in the States, but I don't see most customers that shop for a Caddy cross shopping Audi. This vehicle should be successful especially in V trim. I'm sure Cadillac will sell all of the V's they can produce.

The BMW 3 series' styling is stale? Are you blind? The latest model is by far the best looking car in the segment. The CTS is fugly beyond doubt

Anonymous said... »November 23, 2009

I think its time for a new design direction, this angular look is making the cars date too quickly.

A Caddy more prestigious than a G37? The G-coupes have been around for a long time and have already made a name for themselves as viable alternatives to the BMW 3-series coupe. Caddy has to work and make a name for themselves as a credible 'luxury sport coupe' maker to contend with the Infiniti G-coupe and BMW 3-series coupes. This is a start but hopefully the styling has handling dynamics to match. I hope this looks better in person. I do not like the high rear end and to be honest, Caddy needs to find more classical design elements, cause their current design theme is too busy. I prefer the BMW 3-series design and Infiniti G37 design.

The FM-based G coupe and sedan were introduced in late 2003. The CTS was introduced in 2002. The FWD G's are hardly worth remembering; they are Infiniti's Cimmaron.

Even if the G and the CTS competeed with one another, I hardly think it's fair to say the G is more established than the CTS

if you go to cadillac website and look at the official photos of any caddy you will see they look out of proportion, their pics never look quite like the real thing

Anonymous said... »November 25, 2009

I'm torn between this and the A5 S-Line... Those who are saying they'd rather have the G37 than this... are sheep. If I see another G35 or G37 on the road... it'll be too soon.

Personally, I like the exterior... and the interior, if anything like the CTS (or the V, especially), is comparable to the A5's interior for best looking. IMO.

God, what a beautiful car. Despite what other people think, I love the design style, and have always loved the design style of cadillacs, and this one is no exception (with a few exceptions).

I really think the tailpipe should be separated, it bears to much resemblance to an anus, im serious. I think that the headlights could use a more aggressive look, but other than that, it is a beautiful car.

I think that a lot of these anonymous posts, the first ten maybe, are from the same person. Why would anyone seem so angry about a car design? Anyway, I think it's great that Cadillac isn't trying to copy the proportion of a 3 series like everyone else is. The design of the current 3 is absolutely tragic. I'd take an S5 over this Caddy, but I can't think of much else that looks better.

Refreshing change from the Germans. Edgy and unique. I wish it had a naturally aspirated V8. Good job Caddy!

Nice looking Caddy. Cant wait to see them in person when the roll out this summer. This is a 2 door version of the former sports luxury of the year... bound to be bad ass. Sounds like some faggot 3-series lover is a little jealous.

Anonymous said... »December 09, 2009

a cadillac is nothing to be jealous about.

No thanks!!

Like to see all the bad comments of the coupe, then when the V comes out dealers wont try to rape me on the price..

I have a 2004 CTSV sedan and it's an animal on the street and open track.

I plan look at the V coupe in the future and if dealers are too greedy and I'll buy one.
....if too greedy I'll plan on keeping my sedan for years more....

GM if your listening greed equals no sale...
