The easiest way to get some extra ponies out of today's cars is to update the engine software and that's precisely what Superchips proposes for the latest generation BMW 320d (E90-E93) with the 2.0-litre, 175bhp turbo diesel powerplant. The firm's remapped ECU for the diesel bimmer adds an extra 44bhp and 103Nm to the four-cylinder unit, increasing the maximum output to 220bhp and 444Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque respectively.
Despite the power increase, Superchip claims that the 320d's fuel economy is not only unaffected by the ECU remap but in most cases consumption is improved thanks to to the additional low rev torque available to the driver.
The 320d ECU remap is priced in the UK at £435.00 including VAT and is covered by what Superchip calls, a 'full Customer Service Guarantee and warranty. Those interested can either purchase the product and self-upload it in a few minutes using the Bluefin handset or just visit on the company's dealership and have it installed.
