2011 Honda CR-Z Hybrid Coupe: New Video Shots of Production Model

|

Continuing the saga of leaks, new photos of the production version of Honda's hotly anticipated 2011 (or 2010, depends on the market) CR-Z hybrid coupe have made their way onto the web. This time, we have a series of screen shots from a video that we have yet to discover. In JDM spec, the 21st century CR-X comes with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol unit with an electric motor.

According to the official brochure that was leaked earlier this month, the petrol unit makes 114ps (84kW or 113 HP) at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 145Nm (107 lb-ft) at 4,800 rpm, while the electric motor, 14ps (10kW or 13.4 HP) at 1,500 rpm and 78Nm (58 lb-ft) at 1,000 rpm.

It doesn't sound much, but at least customers will have the option of a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the more traditional for a hybrid model, CVT.

The Japanese version of the CR-Z is said to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h (62mph) in an uninspiring 9.7 seconds.

In the leaked leaflet, Honda mentions that the CR-Z will return 25.0 km/lt (58.8mpg US or 4.0 lt/100km) and 22.5 km/lt (52.9 mpg US or 4.5 lt/100km), but as we noted then, we are not sure what the numbers refer to.

Japan will first be the first market to receive the production version of the CR-Z in February 2010, with Europe and North America to follow later in the year.

The replacement for my old MX-3..?

"100 km/h (62mph) in an uninspiring 9.7 seconds."
...Is certainly adequate for a very high MPG vehicle...

Nothing groundbreaking though. BMW gets similar economy figures with the 118d Coupe (at least in European cycle) with 4.5 lt /100km (52.3mpg US) combined, 4.0lt /100km (58.8mpg US) on the highway, but a faster sprint time with 9.0 seconds.

But again, bear in mind that the performance and economy figures are of the JDM CR-Z, not the EU / US version

It's a two-door version of the Honda Insight, honestly. It's underpowered, but it delivers outstanding fuel economy. This is the farthest thing from a sports car.

Somehow the protruding front grille doesn't quite sit right with the design. The dashboard is very busy. Else, quite a nice shape.

No thanks. I'll wait for Veloster.

Let's wait for the USDM version and see if they increase the HP on this thing...

Thanks John,

Your a lot more update on whats currently out there then I am.

My 81' Chevette diesel(Isuzu) could regularly get over 60 MPG, but it's 0-60 was rather sedate compared to the CR-Z Hybrid .... Still adequate for getting on the freeway, and pulling hills with a full load.

Happy New Year John and CARSCOOP

Jenny, "outstanding fuel economy"?
The Insight has poor fuel economy, very far from the prius, which is a lot more stronger.

It looks cool! Although it resembles the current Mazda RX-8.

Nice! Although the rear reminds me of the first generation Honda Insight and that grill has a little bit of Mazda influence. I wish they kept the shape a bit more like the concept. Overall it is an okay design.

justin bieber sounds like a girl.

Honda has lost the way, they don't even have any decent sports cars/sedans left. All they bring now is this futuristic hybrid crap.

it is such a contrast interior to exterior. the exterior is so clean and complete whereas the interior is this jumbled mess. I don't understand how they could accept this as a final design. horrible.

At first glance front looks like volvo s40 :D

It is impossible to fully describe how disappointingly ugly this is. It used to be that Honda almost always designed cars that looked good and some even looked great. Sadly this is no more.

I love Honda interiors and here also it does not disappoint. I love it when there is lots happening but here its not a clutter. Honda gives so much more for the money.

I've had great luck with Hondas, but I sure don't like where their styling is going. Did they hire Bangle for this one?

i love this car! honda has great product in the accord and civic sedans. the crosstour is awesome up close and behind the wheel. their trucks/suv's are top notch, but they could use some sportier vehicles and a true affordable "sports car". this is obviously not a sports car, but it is very decent for what it is. i do hope they eventually replace the s2000, give us more awd cars and crossovers. the crosstour is pretty costly, but worth every dime from my time with one on a test drive. just because it is worth it does not mean that most people can afford one. keep diversity throughout the price lines, honda. a car for all is what i have always seen your brand. we are a honda family... from an insight to an acura rl, christmas time was pretty cool checking out the selection in our driveways.

I see Audi from the front. Hey! Not a bad thing.

i can see a hint of mazda and audi in this sexy coupe, while it is still quite unique. nice job!

Assuming it starts at $25,500--this is too much money for a car with only 122 hp that can do 0-62 in 9.7 seconds (it actually may be slower than this is this was the Japan version which is lighter than the one we will get) and doesn't really get that great gas mileage when compared to other hybrids. Any "true" car enthusiasts would find this sadly lacking in power and will not be interested in such a slow car. Unfortunately this is just a good handling hybrid and not by any means a sports car or sporty car.
