Earlier this week, Honda released the first official details and a photo of its new HSV-010 GT, which stands for Honda Sports Velocity, and has been developed to replace the racing variant of the NSX in the GT500 class of the 2010 Super GT Series. Now we have the first videos of the blacked out racer that's the closest we'll get to the next generation NSX supercar.
You see, the HSV-010 GT is based on the NSX's replacement that Honda canceled at the end of 2008 due to the economic recession. The Japanese company had previewed the supercar which featured a front-mounted V10 engine in concept form through the Acura Advance Sports Car Concept at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show.
According to company sources, the V10 supercar would have been the Japanese automaker's most powerful production model ever.
The HSV-010 GT carries the production-ready supercar's shape and underpinnings though Honda's engineers swapped the V10 engine for a 3.4-liter V8 churning out some 500HP and replaced the rear-biased all-wheel drive system for a simpler rear-wheel drive layout to conform to the 2010 GT500 Regulations.
Honda's new GT is slated to make its official racing debut at the Super GT season opener at the Suzuka Circuit, held on March 20–21, 2010.

sounds awesome
HA! I knew they wouldn't throw away a good thing!
I just wish we could see a production version of this :(
Well if you look at the photo of the car you can see that the door on the Honda HSV-010 GT is high gloss black and the rest of the car has a flat black on the wide body kit that was add to the car for the JGTC 500 so you are looking at a full on production version with a Bad @$$ wide body kit on the car.
Making this car and not making a street version for it it's like trowing away your Christmas dinner after just two bites. What a waste Honda.
Win on Sunday get high sales on Monday won't work in this case, because I don't know how many people will want a Honda Fit after seeing the NSX on the racetrack.
OMG!!!Sound like 1000hp.!!!!!
When they start winning races with this car, then they will think twice about quiting on this car. Awesome! LONG LIVE THE NSX!!!
i would buy it!
As much as I want the NSX back, making a production version of this car probably wouldn't be a smart choice right now.
Look at Toyota / Lexus and their LF-A. I read somewhere that the company would be losing money on the 500 or so cars built. Though I would like Honda to continue the NSX replacement project in the future.
Also don't say look at Nissan and the GT-R's price tag. Nissan already had the VQ series engines and ATTESA-ETS system developed along with the FM platform.
the GTR is AWD this is RWD!
i bet this would be faster around the ring then most "budget" supercars
"When they start winning races with this car, then they will think twice about quiting on this car."
That's what I think this whole thing hangs on. If this is sucessful at racing and if Honda's ever-tight bean-counters can work out the math for a profit, then a production NSX MIGHT come back.
That almost sounds like a V10. I know the mis-carried road car had a V10 and this has a V8, but damn that thing screams! In the second vid it sounded like an F1 car!
Elijah, the GT-R used a comprehensively re-developed engine and platform - a VR engine (a la R390) and a PM platform that took them ages. Also Lexus made the LFA hugely overpriced to make it exclusive and special, so that's a bad case-in-point.
However they won't make it until the recession calms down, because not enough people will buy an expensive Honda, Acura badge or not. Just look at the NSX. I'd like to see it though, as long as they don't call this V10 FR car an 'NSX'.
Unbelievable sound!
Come one HONDA! I know you still got that " racing forever " sign in your heart !
The Sound of Music for gear heads!
how much does it cost 300,000?
