New Mitsubishi RVR: First Official Photos of Compact Crossover, Positioned Under the Outlander

|
These are the first official images of Mitsubishi's all-new compact crossover which bears the name 'RVR'. With this model, the Japanese automaker expands its crossover lineup, which already includes the full-size Pajero (also known as Shogun and Montero in some markets), and the recently updated mid-size Outlander.

Inspired by the Japanese firm's 2007 cX concept, the RVR makes use of Mitsubishi's mid-size global platform, which also forms the basis for the Lancer and Outlander.

However, at 4.3 meters in length, the RVR is 365mm (14.4-in.) shorter than the current Outlander SUV.

The compact crossover model will be offered at launch with an all-new 1.8L MIVEC petrol engine, though it is almost certain that Mitsubishi will add a diesel variant for some markets in the near future.

Mitsubishi said that the RVR will be released globally, including North America, Europe, and Asian regions including China, with sales set to start first in Japan next Spring.

Lexus IS SUV????
(look at the rear)

Anonymous said... »December 03, 2009

Did they have to base it on the OUTLANDER EX or the LANCER EX?

looks like a mercedes B-Class frm the side and abit on the rear. Rear also looks like the previous hyundai sonata...

looks much better than the Scion xD and hopefully will perform better in crash tests...the key will be delivering good fuel economy, which Mitsubishi is not known for.

Side view looks a bit like the last gen and current RAV 4 to me. But overall very attractive, way more appealing than any Toyota blob SUV.

looks pretty good actually..

Anonymous said... »December 03, 2009

But the picture on the front article is a bit misleading.
Does anyone notice the rear tire is doubled up like a bus or a truck?

Audi Q5 clone

Roms said... »December 03, 2009

who released theses crappy renders in the media...??
tires don't even have a brand name...and are currently slick ones...

Taglane said... »December 03, 2009

Roms: Dude... really though? You're complaining about tires? Really????

Roms said... »December 04, 2009

I'm complaining about mitsu communication dpt being unprofessionnal releasing pictures of that quality - i'm not even looking at the car details cos if that :p

Roms said... »December 04, 2009

and it looks like rear tire is doubled cos they overlay their rendering on a real photo where there was another real car...you can see it on rear render too

I guess none of you remember the original RVR from the early nineties. It was released as an AWD minivan/SUV crossover on a lancer chassis. Later models were available with a "Hyper Sports Gear" pack that included the 240HP turbocharged Lancer EVO3/4 engine!

We can only hope they think about making a "Hyper" version of this little SUV with the current EVO X engine.

I have a '94 RVR Super Sports Gear, and yhep,
it's fast. 216hp and 299Nm of Torque on tap. I still love driving it.
EVO 3 engine, 4G63 with Turbocharger, Hold mode attaching fuzzy shift 4A/T transmission.

Clever-sized,handy SUV. She seems a poor-man's Audi Q5,as well as a worthy VW Tiguan contender.
By the way,her body paint of turquoise light blue seems similar to those of Pontiac Grand-Am/Grand-Prix siblings and Rover 25,in late 1990s to early 2000s.

why does this remind me of an Audi Q5???

Looks interesting to me. May depend on what it offers eg vs the Dualis/Qasquai. There's a couple of Chinese language sites which suggest the RVR's dimensions. One is clearly way off the mark, with a suggested height of only 1500mm, but the other, at

http://www.suvchina.com.cn/n-4193.html

sounds convincing, with 4295L x 1770W x 1615mm H. No idea where they got the figures from, so it will be interesting to see how close they got! The width puts it close to the Lancer, which would make sense, if it is sharing some of Lancer's underpinnings.

I sent an earlier post quoting dimensions of4295x1770x1615 for the RVR. This site:

http://www.autonet.com.tw/cgi-bin/view.cgi?/news/2010/1/a9120805.ti+a2+a3+a4+a5+b1+/news/2010/1/a9120805+b3+d6+c1+c2+c3+e1+e2+e3+e5+f1

Makes those figures even more plausible, giving a detailed set of specs for the RVR.
