BMW Group's MINI brand brought along a new concept, or rather a new variant of the concept model that previews its forthcoming Crossover model, to the Detroit motor show. The all-wheel drive, open-body Beachcomber study was designed to capture the spirit of the original Mini Moke of the 1960s.
The Beachcomber gets a new all-wheel drive system called ALL4, as well as an elevated seating position with the British brand supporting that it can be driven without doors and a conventional roof. However, just to be on the safe side -in theory of course- it comes with a soft top and lightweight doors made out of plastic material.
The concept model is supposed to provide us with new clues about the MINI Crossover will be available in Europe later this year and in the US in early 2011. The Crossover will be the first production MINI to have all-wheel-drive, four doors, four full-size seats and measure around four meters in length.

OMG, They still use that ridiculous washing machine interior/dashboard!! F*ck it's so ugly, get rid of it Mini, Please!!!
it is just "okay". predictable. i do love the std. mini cooper and the ragtop, especial in "s" trim, but this is over-kill.
great concept, but not so certain if it will be a hit if produced. it waters down the brand.
There are only so many things one can do with a single platform. Please stop Mini Cooper!
what next? a 1.5 person camper?!
I cant wait - this would be sooo cool . . Just like the Old Mini Mokes from years ago..
My tractor should be called the Earth scratcher.
Horrible, pointless, stupid. Please don't make this BMW - not satisfied with producing hideous pointless cars with your own badge on? Just don't...
it's a 1993 Kia Sportage rebadged and stripped of the doors.
i read somewhere that bmw actually used an old pontiac concept called "stinger" for inspiration. no lie! i must google this so called gm. do any of you at 'scoop have info on this pontiac concept?
1989 concept car. lime green. had a big ass storage kit full of all kinds of stuff. powered by either the Quard 4 or early Ecotec, had body pannels the could be removed and it had a t-top.
That's all i can remember about the Stinger concept.
