New Opel Corsa Color Race Harks Back to 1970s Rallye Kadett B Sprint [with Video]

|

Chevrolet isn't the only brand in the GM Group playing around with vivid colors and special editions that hark back to models of the 60s and 70s. So is the firm's European division Opel that has released a new exclusive edition of the Corsa supermini called 'Color Race' inspired from the late 1960s - early 1970s Rallye Kadett B Sprint.

However, unlike the sporty Kadett that combined exclusive styling cues with performance enhancements, the Corsa Color Race's upgrades are limited to cosmetic upgrades.

The three-door Color Race is available with a choice of three exterior finishes - Sunny Melon Yellow color, Casablanca White and Magma Red- and comes with a standard black hood as well as side and tailgate appliqués with a checkered flag motif, black painted roof and black 17-inch alloy wheels.

The special edition model's interior features matching color highlights such as special seat stitching and vent bezels, a Panorama sunroof and a leather-clad steering wheel.

The Corsa Color Race is offered with the same range of engines as the other 2010 Corsa models including the new 1.4-liter gasoline unit with 87HP or 100HP and the 130HP 1.7-liter CDTI turbo diesel that returns a combined fuel consumption of just 4.5-liter per 100 km or 52.3 mpg US.

Pricing in Germany starts from €15,560 or at today's exchange rates, approximately US$22,500.

Amazing Chevrolet doesn't import more of their euro vehicles here...Ford is starting to.. as in the Focus, and Transit. makes more sense to me.

I agree, Chevrolet should import it to the US and call it the Nova (because it replaced the Vauxhall Nova here in the UK) as it really is a fantastic little car.

This is a quick chop of what it would look like:

There many great cars that who lives in USA cant buy. And this is one of that! Like Scirocco for example. Fortunatly i live in Europe to have and see them!!!

... and shame on GM by selling Opel Insignia under Buick brand in US!

"Amazing Chevrolet doesn't import more of their euro vehicles here"

The Corsa doesn't meet us crash ratings.

"and shame on GM by selling Opel Insignia under Buick brand in US!"

Opel has been gone from NA for over 40 years. You can't build up brand equity overnight with one car wearing an unfamiliar badge that many people have never heard of or can barely remember.

Opel has been gone from NA as a 'Brand'. Cadillac rebadged it as a Catera from 1997 to 2001 for NA sales.

The Opel Rally brings back memories having briefly owned one in Blue, before trading it in for a new 1973 Opel 'Manta' hardtop 'Blue Max' special. The best of the crop of early sporty Coupes.

Forgot to mention that by 73' 'NA' Opels were thoroughly emasculated by the now required smog equipment (As were all 'NA' autos). Power was reduce from 106HP to 74HP. In 1974, the new bumper impact laws added further weight and in a negative manner, dramatically changed the look of cars that weren't designed with the law in mind.

Despite the changes the Opel Manta and Rallye's shined in the handling department and the Opel'B' and 'C' cars have attained cult status in Europe.

while growning up, i remember buick-opel being one, or at least they were sold together in my small home town. everything old is new again... at least i hope in regards to bringing more european models to the u.s., whether as opels, chevrolets, cadillacs, i do not care unless the vehicle does not fit the brand image.

The Opel Rallye Kadett had terrific effiency in those days.
The 1969 Kadett Coupe had both 1897cc/90bhp and 1078cc/60bhp engines. I was especially impressed by the 1.1-litres motor's elasticity, enabling 150-160km/h bracket despite 148km/h manutacturer data. It indicates her flexible torque curve from this puny 1078cc four banger. Of course, her 750-770kg body with respectable drag coefficiency contributes to such commendable performance. Thus the 1969 Rallye Kadett is one of masterpieces among long history of Opel,in my notion.
