Together with the top-spec Impreza WRX STI R205 325HP, Subaru also released another special edition version of its sport hatchback for Japan, the WRX STI A-Line Type S. But unlike the R205, the Type S isn't about performance or handling improvements, it's about cosmetic upgrades.
Based on the Impreza WRX STI A-Line which was launched in early 2009 and combines Subaru's 300-horsepower 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer engine with a five-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifts, the Type S adds Recaro seats treated in Alcantara and leather.
In addition, the seats, the leather steering wheel and the door panels are accented by contrasting red stitching while the package is rounded off with new lightweight alloy wheels in a gunmetal gray finish and gold-colored brake calipers.
Available for order now in Japan, the Type S is priced from 3,255,000 YEN which comes to around US$34,800 or €24,400 at today's exchange rates.

when this model will be available in Europe? i'd like to get one...
Don't understand why they would not bring these options to North America??? Crazy.
Why not bring it to North America?
Probably a smart idea on Subaru's part. It'll will save the lives of a lot of over monied 20 year olds from adding to the insurance companies's statistics on road racing fatalities...
Obviously, the above commenter is too self-righteous to read the information about the car as given in the article - "the Type S isn't about performance or handling improvements, it's about cosmetic upgrades."
The Too-Much-Fun Police are at it again...
So... are they really thinking it looks better with all lights off ?
A reply to commenter #4: Please spare me the crap.
I'm not self-righteous and I read the post completely. I own an STI and I've also seen the results when this car gets into the hands of overzealous young guns. Not that all young drivers are bad drivers, but most of the destroyed STIs I've seen happen to have been driven by 18-22 y/o shit-heads, hence my comment. BTW, do you fit in this category?
Too Much Fun Police? Yes, well I'm sure every enthusiast will sleep better at nights knowing there's a hero like you out there championing the cause of down-trodden and much maligned teenager.
Personally (I have a 2010 WRX Ltd) I think all the flared arches, scoop etc are not something that endears the car to me. I'd rather have a toned down looking car that handles very well and goes quick. The scoop on the WRX was nearly a deal-breaker for me.
