VW Golf R with 270HP and AWD: New Photo Gallery from International Driving Presentation

|

Unveiled to the public for the first time at last year's Frankfurt motor show, the Golf R comes with a 270HP 2.0-liter turbo engine and all-wheel drive and is the most powerful and fastest series production Golf ever made. We've already shared with you all the basic details on the new 'R', but today, VW released some new photos of the car shot during the international driving presentation in Ellmau, Austria.

The hottest Golf leaves the 100km/h (62mph) mark behind it in 5.7 seconds when equipped with a manual gearbox, and 5.5 seconds when shifted with VW's optional DSG dual clutch transmission. In both cases top speed is limited to 250km/h or 155 mph. Photo gallery after the break.

Vry nice car, pity the ACC is optional on it. For a car like this it should have everything. PERIOD

Indeed, very nice, too bad the rear lights are not exclusive anymore (avail. on GTD and the likes...)

Scirocco or bust!

Nice car but VW is missing the boat by not importing the Scirocco. Those wanting a tue sporty coupe won't settle for that boxy sedan look.Competitors like the new Hyundai Genenis Coupe, the soon to be arriving Toyota coupe...not to mention when Ford imports the Focus RS will have the jump ,attracting the sporty crowd. Then BMW is coming out with a front wheel drive coupe...VW could have had the lead on these.

Terrific grand tourer disguised as a hot hatch.
Impeccable traction, excellent fuel consumption(11.9km/l average),and lower CO2(much below 200g/km) make her one of most respectable vehicles in this segment. Her acceleration is 5.5sec for 0-100km/h,and delimitered maximum speed calculated as much as 270-280km/h(170-175mph) bracket, hence she would be a challenger for the likes of Jaguar XF 5.0,Maserati Quattroporte(4244cc/401bhp),and Mercedes S450(340bhp)!
In Japan,my country, she'll be sold for 5050000yen(about $56000) this March. As mere a C-segment hatchback, such tariff could be skyrocketing but considering her total potential her price seems reasonable enough.
As a "$120000 performance for $56000 price",she'll be quite a unique, worthy choice in parallel with the Lexus IS350 and the Nissan 370Z in my home country.
Let's congratulate on the new stage for a compact tourer!

Have a family member with a Golf TDI and loves it. I love the concept of the "R" but.............nondescript sleeper?    NO, I don't want a stupid, big Impreza STI wing on it, since the closest to the 'Ring for me will be driving on the Mass Pike, but a little style would be nice. Also, I've read some road tests complaining that the spec'd performance in the real world ain't quite so. Personally, I'll wait until the update then decide.........
