2011 Kia Sportage: First Official Photos of Compact SUV [Updated Gallery]

|

This handsome-looking compact crossover is the next generation 2011 Kia Sportage that will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the upcoming 2010 Geneva Motor Show in the beginning of March.

Penned under the guidance of former Audi designer Peter Schreyer, the new Sportage carries the new Kia family look as seen on the Soul, Cadenza sedan and Sorento SUV, but it appears to have a more European flavor to it, with extra attention given to details.

The five-door crossover shares its platform with the also new Hyundai Tucson, known as the ix35 in Europe. It is longer and wider than the outgoing Sportage, something that should translate to improved cabin space.

We're still short on details about the engine range, but chances are that the 2011 Sportage will be offered with the same 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four cylinder engines coupled to six-speed transmissions as the Tuscon in North America, while in Europe, it will most likely get the same 1.7-liter and 2.0 liter diesels, and 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter gasoline units as the iX35.

Wow... It looks so nice.!!!!. It is way better than CR-V,or Rav4...... Korean autos are crazy.. I think they are the only makers that really progress these days..

This looks really nice! I like how the front end has the family resemblance to the Sorento and I like how the front end differs and looks sportier! Good job Kia!

Kia and Hyundai have it going on. While the Japanese keep turning out bland but competent cars, the Koreans have stepped it up. It is unfortunate that a lot of people still perceive the quality of Korean cars (and American cars as well) to be subpar to the Japanese.

Within 10 years, the Sportage has gone from an abysmal piss box of yesterday's technology to the front runner of design, and from what I can see, quality. What took Toyota 50 years,Kia has done in a fraction of the time.I can hope they enjoy it though, before China sees the model set by Japan and Korea and runs with it...

some resemblance to Audi Q7 or Acura ??

Korean auto design is aggressive, dynamic and just mind blowing but to top it all they have got quality which people really look for.

Damn this looks nice!! Koreans are on fire!! Im happy that there is another country to compete with the japanese, this will help us to shop for future cars with better value. Without japan taking advantage of the price.

very nice indeed... aggressive, contemporary. Way to keep the production car looking like the concept car. Definitely on my radar for purchase next fall.

very nice design...good job kia...

well kia did hire former Audi designer =P

Cool! If they put this in the US market, I'm buying it. Unless, like the toyota venza, turns out to have an awkward ride.

That is certainly one heck of a blind spot...

That's my only beef with this thing, because thus far, it's looking REALLY good! That blind spot just really bugs me ...

awesome!

With that humongous c-pillar,I wonder if the car has a rear view screen monitor. If not, then the driver will have a real bad visibility issue with that chunky rear pillar.

Looking great. To be honest i wasn't expecting this much good looking car from Koreans but all credit to them. If you look at the tailgate, there is more than a hint of Audi Q7 not surprising as Kia have got former Audi designer but really nice job Kia/Hyundai.

I wonder about the price range. Can't wait for all the specs

Hyundai's biggest competitor may well be its sister company Kia not Japanese. It's interesting to see how these two sister companies compete each other to improve.
Good management. I hope this keeps up.

The price for the Kia Sportage (top of the line) is displayed on the Korean website as 30,000,000 KRW this is 26,850.925 Canadian Dollars .... IF THIS WILL BE MAINTAINED WHEN THE CAR WILL BE LAUNCHED IN CANADA I WILL TAKE TWO!!! :)
