Aston Martin Veloce: Conceptual Study for a DB9 Replacement

|

The Aston Martin Veloce is a well executed styling exercise for a more dynamic replacement to the British brand's DB9 supercar and it was sent to us by Marouane Bembli, a 24-year old industrial design student from Sweden. You may remember him from one of his previous works that we showed you here on Carscoop back in November '09, the Audi R10 V10 supercar concept study. Hit the jump for the gallery and why not, leave a comment with your take on the concept.

Very impressive. More presence than the current Astons

I appreciate the rear lights but overall it just looks like a current Aston drawn in more cartoony proportions.

I doubt you could see out of the front window with the bonnet so high and the roof line so low.

Anonymous above is right. Also there's some additional typical boy racer/supercar cues like the rear diffuser and the extra wide track back wheels hanging out in bulges from the body. Although pulling the LED taillights together into one stripe is kind of cool. But deemphasizing the trad Aston grill shape almost completely is not. That shape is half of what Aston has going on. Half of what's left are the little openings on the fenders, even if everyone else has decided to copy the idea one way or the other.
I'm hoping the chop top fad has run its course. Personally I kind of like seeing out, as a driver or passenger.

Looks too bold for aston to make. The new 1 will be a little shaper than the current db9.

The "linked" taillights are nothing new to Aston. It's a feature of the One-77. Very cool thing, actually, those taillights.
And while the rendering is well done, it is as said by others before me, very "boy-ish". It draws more towards Audi's aggressive styling than Aston's elegance.

What are you people talking about? That concept study is awesome! Remember that mostly of the time a concept study doesn't reflect functionality, it's a concept, an idea, the product of drawing what's in your mind, what ayer you feeling.

So saying, the wide, the diffuser, etc., it's out of the question. That ain't a production car.

Is this Batmans new daily driver? I always liked Aston designs.

A bit too flashy for my taste. The current DB9 looks majestic and elegant. This thing looks like it'll rip your head off. It is pretty though, and it does look pretty badass...

As presented ..Impractical...

Deign will be tamer in reality. Only the design elements would survive in a production model.

May be trying to establish a new look while hewing to the shadowy outline of the recent Aston marque design theme, since Jaguar, through Ian McCallum, who created the look, has put his stamp on the Jag and co-opted the Aston look.

Firstly, his name was Ian Callum when I last spoke to him, I don't think It's changed.

I think personally, it doesn't really have aston martin qualities. What qualities it retains of Aston Martin are too similar to what's been done, and the new thing he's brought to the table completely ruin it.

Yes it has a sharp haunch almost identical to that of a Vanquish, but from the back the shape is like a Lamborghini Estoque, with a rear light graphic that's trying not to look totally copied form the one 77, but looks more like an XF.

The bulge/dip over the front wheel arch before it comes back to the A pillar makes it look deformed and almost looks higher than the rear haunch.

The roofline is far too low. Lowering the roofline to give it an overall long proportion doesn't work because there's too much body/glass.

In terms of saying that this is a DB9 replacement, i think that's wrong as well, as this is just a DB9 with things changed for the sake of it, and made highly aggressive. Aston Martin already have one, it's called the one-77 and it's better. This has no real grace or style. It looks Japanese and agressive, not British enough.

The rendering is good. But I always take exception to people looking at a beautifully rendered image of something that's only impressive because everything is exaggerated. Let your design quality do the talking.
