European Honda CR-Z to Debut in Geneva: Gets 2+2 Seat Layout and LEDs, Averages 5.0 lt/100km or 47mpg

|

The European market Honda CR-Z hybrid coupe will have its premiere at next month's Geneva International Motor Show. Unlike the strictly two-seater North American-spec CR-Z that was unveiled at the Detroit Show in January, the European version features a 2+2 seating layout - though we gather that the two rear seats will be suitable only for children or extremely small adults at best.

The only other difference concerns the standard daytime running lights (DTRLs) with eight LEDs that bring out the lower line of the headlights and are exclusive to the European model.

The CR-Z combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with Honda's IMA parallel hybrid system and for the first time in a series production hybrid, a 6-speed manual gearbox that transfers power to the front-wheels.

The Japanese automaker did not disclose output or performance figures for the Euro CR-Z, but we assume that petrol-electric hybrid system will deliver the same combined output of 122 HP at 6,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft. of torque from 1,000 to 1,500 rpm as the NA spec model.

According to Honda, the Euro CR-Z achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.0lt/100km (56.4 mpg UK or 47mpg US) in the European cycle and emits 117 g/km of CO2.

In comparison, the VW Scirocco Coupe with the 140HP 2.0-liter turbo diesel and a 6-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 9.3 seconds and has a top speed of 207km/h or 129mph while returning 5.1 lt/100km or 46.1mpg combined with 134 g/km of CO2.

Like its North American sibling, the Euro CR-Z is fitted with 3-Mode Drive System that allows drivers to alter the responses of the throttle, steering, idle stop timing, climate control and the level of assistance provided by the IMA system.

The CR-Z will go on sale across Europe in the summer of 2010 with prices to be announced at the Geneva motor show.

ugly as hell.
The Civic is looking better

They can't put a proper trunk lid on the rear because it will be too high,so they opted for glass. It ended up looking even more awkward. The dash looks too videogame-ish: good if you're a twenty-something gamer, but inappropriate for mature drivers.

Not worthy of the legendary CRX-name. And the current Civic does look better.

I would just leave it on 'SPORT' all the time. screw hybrids! Either make it fully sporty electric, or put in the 2.0l Civic motor in in!

Even in full "Sport" you won't get anywhere fast with that kind of performance figures... lol

A shame. Politics 1 Drivers 0

I think it looks pretty nice though.
But wouldnt have a lighter version (no electic/battery hardware + weightsaving materials) with a decent VTEC economical 1.8 or 2.0 made it just as good in real world MPGs yet sporty and more attractive to more people?

At least it should be offered as both, just like the Civic is.

What happens to the used car market with models like this? And resale values? Would i want to buy a used hybrid 5 yrs down the line knowing that i will have to replace a number of expensive components including the battery pack?
Would the corner mechanic be able to service it?
Will parts be cheap and easily available?

Gorgeous...a perfect testament to Honda's high road approach.

power to weight ratio...that ratio is where this entire heap of trash falls apart in irrelivence.

The CRX is STILL the only one and the orginal. Bar none.

Definitly the car will look much better in the real. Pictures speak only a thousand words but reality speaks much much more.

^doesn't matter what it looks like. it's power to weight ratio is shit. That matters more than how it looks.

Anonymous said... »February 11, 2010

^What?? are you looking to set a land speed record?

Anonymous said... »February 11, 2010

^ Yes, in the turns. This thing cannot and will not do what the CRX did best.

I love this car, the design is perfect i think. A hybrid and a muscle car, 2 in 1.
Honda will make a movie about it, and if i win the contest, the movie will be based on my script.
I need all the honda fans support for this contest…please visit my blog..and you will understand…hondaczrdream.blogspot.com
