Ford Focus RS WRC Edition: Limited Run Swiss Special

|

Ford of Switzerland has released a special version of the European market Focus RS called "WRC Edition" that will be produced in a limited run of 50 units. The special series was announced last year as part of Ford's festivities for the 40th anniversary of its RS division.

The Focus RS WRC Edition, which pays tribute to the legendary Escort RS1600 that was launched in 1970, was designed with the help of Swiss fans that participated in a special design competition organized by Ford. You can check out some of the proposals that were submitted by fans after the jump.

The fifty WRC specials are distinguished on the outside by the "Frozen White" paint finish that's contrasted by black and green stickers and stripes as well as the 19-inch OZ Superturismo GT multispoke alloys in black.

In the cockpit there's a special plaque that bears the signatures of Ford Rally drivers Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen.

There are no changes under the bonnet with the WRC Edition being propelled from 0-100km/h (62mph) in under 6 seconds and on to a top speed of 263km/h (163mph) by the same 305HP 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five found in the 'standard' RS.

Pricing for the Focus RS WRC Edition has been set at 55,900 francs or about US$53,050 / €37,950 at today's exchange rates.

Yes, cars in Europe is more expensive than in US. It's depend on taxes. I think is better to buy an M3 or S5, but if sombebody loves Ford's hot hatch it's nothing difficult to bring Focus to the US.
Greetings from Poland :)

Hate the fack side "air" vents. It ruins an otherwise clean, yet sharp looking car.

Speaking as someone who HAS experience importing cars between countries it ISN'T 'nothing'. There are an assload of regulations, tariffs and inspections- even for something which has a model available for sale locally.

Industry lobbyists have made sure there are plenty of governmental and/or legal hurdles in the name of safety to prevent the average consumer exploiting price differentials or model variations, like the past few years between Canada and the US with a currency at-par, but retail sales channels still trying to maintain a 20 or 25% difference in price. Honda, Volkwagen and Mercedes for example will also will void your warranty when you ship a car out of its native market.

It can be done, it will often cost you $10,000 or more- it's not just a matter of parking the car in a shipping container and picking it up at the other end 2 weeks later.
