New Seat Ibiza Sport Tourer Unveiled Ahead of Geneva Motor Show

|

Meet the all-new Seat Ibiza Sport Tourer or ST for short that was unveiled today ahead of its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in the beginning of March. The third member of the Ibiza family after the five-door and three-door (SC) models, is a subcompact estate and it will go on sale in most parts of Europe by early summer.

As anticipated, the production version of last year's Frankfurt Show IBZ study has lost all those edgy styling elements such as the hidden rear door handles and the sharper tail lamps that made the concept look so special.

On the outside, up until the C-pillar, the Ibiza ST appears to be identical to the hatchback model while from there aft, the styling brings to mind the Audi A3 Sportback.

Measuring in at a length of 4,320mm, the new Ibiza ST is about 180mm longer than the hatchback model.

And by the look of these images, most of the extra length is concentrated in the rear overhang benefitting the capacity of the luggage compartment that now reaches 430 liters, and can be further increased in stages by folding the split rear seat.

The VW Group's Spanish subsidiary said that the Ibizia ST offers a choice of three petrol and three TDI units with common-rail injection with four of those engines operating with direct injection and turbocharging.

These include the group's new 1.2-liter TSI petrol with 105HP and the 1.6-liter TDI in 90HP and 105HP guises.

I'm at a loss for words. Definitely one of the worst looking estates I have ever seen.

Shame about the looks... I would of though Seat would have done better than that!

1/ This color is not the best choice
2/ Rear lights looks like those from the Renault Koleos (so... not nice)

Most of universal small cars look not good. It is difficult to keep proportions.
But the back could have been better... if you see concept it was much better.

illustrates problem of being overly optimistic with radii and swage lines when designing concepts.. production version ends up looking awkward. shame as vw group usually present concepts much closer to how they will be sold

I like it, although it does look like a Skoda Fabia Estate and an Audi A6 Avant (pretty much grabbing design from all corners of the VW Group box). I'd have the Fabia thankyou, but after the facelift.

Must admit, I'm confused as to the general dislike of the design. It's not as nice as the concept version was but as small estates go there's not been a better shape in years. I'm not sure metallic burgundy is the best colour for it - a bright red or yellow would be preferable, and more "Seat" in spirit, but overall I reckon it's a very pleasing shape.

As for "Seat used to have some great looking cars", I'd opine that apart from a few exceptions (such as the Toledo that was based on the Mk4 Golf/Bora platform looking way better than the MPV-alike that replaced it) Seat have consistantly been moving in the right direction. They've gone from a range of cars that *needed* to be painted bright yellow in order to get any attention whatsoever to a range that's distinctive and interesting.

I think it looks awesome! I do not mind the color whatsoever, but perhaps not the best exterior color for show. The lines are pretty cool and I imagine the cost will be within reach of many looking for a decent estate wagon with flair.
