Toyota Announces Voluntary Recall on 8,000 Tacoma Trucks Over Potential Defect in Front Drive Shaft

|

Appearing to have learned its lesson from its accelerator pedal / floor mat woes, Toyota is now issuing voluntary recalls right and left before problems escalate to a point of crisis.

In this latest episode, the Japanese automaker announced it will conduct a voluntary safety recall to inspect the front drive shaft on a small production run of certain 2010 model year Tacoma 4WD trucks.

According to Toyota, the front shaft in these vehicles may include a defective component that contains cracks that developed during the manufacturing process. As the truck get used, the cracks may lead to the separation of the drive shaft at the joint portion.

Toyota said that the recall affects approximately 8,000 Tacoma 4WD trucks in the U.S. adding that no other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved.

The company's dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and if necessary, replace the front drive shaft.

Toyota said that it will notify owners by first class mail starting in mid-March, 2010.

They knew that the cracks were formed during the manufacturing process yet they still did not reject them? And all along I thought they were pioneering the 21st century TQM.

Appearing to have learned its lesson from its accelerator pedal / floor mat woes, Toyota is now issuing voluntary recalls right and left before problems escalate to a point of crisis. Now i think toyota really did build the cars in spite of them knowing they had faults to become number 1 car maker. This will haunt toyota for decades 2 come.

"THE TOYOTA WAY" is history, they just wanted to be number 1 no matter the cost, and they treason ed they own philosophy, PEOPLE FIRST.
Toyota purchases many on site parts from different sources, where their assembly factories reside (different parts of the world), quality control for this parts is not the same quality control as toyota/denso/Japanese parts.
The car externally looks like a TOYOTA but its guts are generic, and assembly also, is not the same as Japanese assembly, not because other countries/people cant do it right, its Toyota's fault for not controlling these plants as they control their home factories.

"When will US companies learn thier lesson(s) ?"

Lessons like "building defective cars for years, ignoring consumer complaints, misdirecting the public by blaming it on floormats, then non-unionized workers, and only admitting it after the feds step in....and even then, it had to be the NA execs, because the ones in japan think they are above critism and are faultless?

Not, that seems like a character trait that only toyota would do.

There we go again. It's always the ones made in the US. Now , I am starting to believe what the Japanese Prime Minister said about US workers -- lazy. This implies that every part that Toyota sources in the US were made by lazy workers who didn't bother to do some Q&A. This doesn't just mean the people who put it together, but also the people who design'em and didn't think first before building it.

I really feel sad for Toyota, as a company with working men. one mistake can take thousands of works..it's a real mess. I hope everything will be better and all the truckers and car drivers will be back to drive safely with their vehicles..
