[Updated with High-res photos and additional details ] We weren't supposed to see the all-new VW Sharan before the opening of the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow, but the first official pictures of the German firm's seven-seater MPV were leaked onto the internet today.
On the outside, the new Sharan adopts Volkswagen's new design language with crisper lines and a wide, horizontal front grille.
The interior has been thoroughly updated and looks far more upscale and modern that the outgoing model, but that shouldn't come as a surprise as the first-generation of the Sharan (redesigned in 2000) was introduced way back in 1995...
Volkswagen has expanded the Sharan by a whopping 220 mm in length (now 4,850 mm) and 92 mm in width (now 1,902 mm) while the wheelbase has also grown by 75mm to 2,920mm improving interior space, both for passengers and luggage.
In the new model, access to the rear seats is granted through a pair of large sliding doors that can, along with the tailgate, be specified with electric motors to operate automatically.
The center row features three individual seats that can be moved by up to 160 mm back and forth if required and, when not in use, can be folded to create a flat loadspace.
The automaker said that as a result of the longer wheelbase, the third row of seats is large enough to accommodate adults as well as children. As with the second row of seats, they can also be folded flat into the floor when not required.
The boot is said to offer a minimum capacity of to 711 liters and a maximum of 2,297 liters with the last two rows of seats folded.
The engine range has been completely overhauled and now includes the firm's latest turbocharged gasoline and petrol units including the 1.4-liter and 2.0-liter TSI petrols with 140HP and 200HP as well as the 2.0-liter TDI with 140 and 170 HP.

Touran = Sharan?
VW Golf Plus -> Touran -> Sharan -> T5 (Caravelle / Multivan)
If VW can make a LWB version, I think it'd be a great replacement to the horrendous Routan sold in North America.
Exactly why are VW so successful? There are many more prestigious, better looking, better made and probably more reliable cars than this boring box on wheels - the exterior is almost exactly the same as the polo, golf et al... Not so much design language as design dial tone. The interior will doubtlessly feel well-made but it's dowdy and, from these pictures at least, looks like a Korean car designed in the late 1990s. Coming soon to an airport taxi rank near you....
This is getting too much, look at the interior, same steering wheel, same air con, same radio, same everything as you see in any other vw, it's depressing! You cannot compare this high volume brand with the likes of uber brands like mercedes and bmw, not even close!
We weren't supposeD, not suppose. Doesn't anyone have a brain anymore?
Exterior is ... well in line with the current VW range, interior looks on par too : which is great, no one will be disappointed by poor ergonomics or quality.
I'd rather get something that had success in different model, than something new and on the cheap (... look at you my Dodge rental)
Volkwagen needs to learn a new dish,this copypasta is getting stale
Could this be anymore dull? There is no excuse for this persistently lazy design language from VW (or VAG for that matter). I get the point of having consistent design themes throughout a range but for heaving sake VW- pull yourself out of the 90's will you? This looks like a slightly bigger Touran and that looked dull and out-of-date when it was launched all those years ago.
what poor feed back on this car... has any one thought that because the golf is such a big sucsess that lots of people would like one however people with 5 kids cant have one so they use the same face interior maerials ect to entice buyers from different segments.
I think the number of sold cars talks for itself.
Look at Toyota. Absolutely boring design. The point is too get as many people as possible to like the models. Look at Alfa: beautiful design but a the end only real Alfisti buy the cars.
TS
So VW shoould just make one car, but offer it in several different sizes? What a load of rubbish. If you want a Golf, buy an Golf. If you want an MPV buy anything else.
