All New Nissan Micra Breaks Cover at 2010 Geneva Show

|

The covers came off the all-new Nissan Micra today at the 80th Geneva Motor Show. Developed and built on Nissan's all-new V-platform, the Japanese supermini goes global with production set to take place at several overseas manufacturing sites including Thailand, India, Mexico and China.

The fourth generation of the Micra is slightly longer and marginally lower than its predecessor with Nissan claiming that the extended wheelbase has further improved interior space.

In Europe, Nissan's new city car will be offered with just two engines options, a naturally aspirated 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol producing 80HP and 108Nm with CO2 emissions of 115g/km, and a turbocharged version of the same engine with direct injection that pumps out 98HP and 142Nm of torque with CO2 emissions of just 95g/km.

Both versions of the 1.2-liter three-pot are available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or Nissan's all-new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Available features include a new 'parking space measurement' (PSM) device with three skill levels (amateur, normal and expert), a touch-screen navigation and audio system, and a glass roof.

In Europe, the Micra will be fitted with ABS, dual front airbags, curtain and side airbags, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and pretensioner seatbelts as standard equipment.

Sales of the new Micra are scheduled to start initially in Thailand in March and in Europe from this November.

Looks promising. Ive been waiting this car for too long. Bring it to US, we are fed up with Yaris and Fit.

It looks like a first generation Daihatsu Sirion from the front, and what's with all those awkward angles at the back.

Almost looks like the 1st gen Yaris

Doesn't look or have that Nissan Flair as does the new models.... perhaps it was Nissan India/Thai design?? Australia shall be getting the Thai version hence the free trade agreement.... and it's not as bubbly as the current one...

Back to the 80's !!!!! I agree, it looks like a chinese car. The front looks like a fake car for kids and the back is so weird !!!!
Definitely the ugliest car of the year !!

dull, dull, dull........

Bearing in mind that Ford sells the Fiesta worldwide as well, I don't know which competitors and drivers of those Nissan wants to adress with this "waste on wheels".

it looks like a Perodua Kelisa at the back

Preferred the previous gen Micra/March...this doesn't look like Japanese design language...it is kind of China/Thailand/India design influence...Mazda2 looks way better...but it is soon to be build in the land of smiles (for Asean market)too...sad

So what if it doesn't look so 2010? The Quality and trustability of Micra will definitely sell lot more than sexy looks..besides it's kinda cute!

Anonymous said... »March 02, 2010

ok ok ok nissan designers clearly inspired by the so mutch aclaimed dullness of the yaris mk2
the yaris mk2 is on the market for 5 years now and looks younger

They totally missed the chance to get some sales off the Fiesta/Polo/Corsa. It looks like a facelift of the current (and aging quickly) model.

booooooring....next pls!

Anonymous said... »March 02, 2010

Definitely a step backwards, particularly the interior. No doubt, once on sale in Europe, the low quality materials and low value engineering will command the same prices as the current offering.

And I would have to spend money for this THING?

Anonymous said... »March 02, 2010

The cute of the current "froggy" Micra has been toned down into a bland generic world-car clone. Shame on you Nissan! Mind you, there's always the Juke :)

Anonymous said... »March 02, 2010

If I was forced to drive either this mess of garbage or the Fiesta, I'd take the Fiesta; no question.

After all, not all of us are so shallow that we get won over by how 'cute' something looks.

Anonymous said... »March 02, 2010

It hideous...it looks like a car from 10 years ago.

Anonymous said... »March 03, 2010

No! They Toyotafied it! I like the last generation Micra/March better because it stood out. I was hoping it would retain the last generations unique styling. Nissan I like your products and this is a disappointment. I will rather buy a Versa hatchback in your lineup or the new Fiesta.

Anonymous said... »March 03, 2010

Extremely disappointing, especially after the last Micra!

Suasexed said... »March 03, 2010

It's like a cross between the 2nd gen 'bubble car' Micra and the current model. Really odd... it's not futuristic nor modern, and just looks incredibly plain, ugly and dated. They must be going after the old ladies that bought the 2nd gen Micra in droves.

yyyyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnn

Anonymous said... »March 03, 2010

The middle brake light is HUGE......will people be so busy gawping at the ugliness that they're going to smack into the back?

Anonymous said... »March 03, 2010

Is that a chinese car? It reminds me of a Geely or a Great Wall kind like that stuff.

Anonymous said... »March 05, 2010

This will sell millions if priced right. Nissan is stepping up big time with quality vehicles that hit the sweet spot.

Anonymous said... »March 07, 2010

The current Micra is definitely way better looking.
Maybe this was the problem: Nissan could not do it any better, so they went for bland and common probably in the hope of having some of Toyota's success with blandness... The next one will have to look better just by default, I guess...

1st generation Daihatsu Sirion is that you..,?On second thoughts it isn't that bad. Maybe just a tad bland and reserved. Can see it looking dated very soon... :(

Anonymous said... »March 12, 2010

I have a 1998 Micra and havent replaced it yet as the current micra is DISGUISTING, definatley think about this one though.

Anonymous said... »March 16, 2010

I saw the concept designs for this car and it look pretty good. The actual car is not really like those concept designs.

Nissan need to keep a tighter control over their concept to reality stage. Otherwise it will cost them dear. This new Micra will cost them dear!

Nevermind. Nissan should LEARN for next time or go bust!
